Go here! Go here! Go here! On a mission to find nice, but inexpensive clothes, I stumbled across this set of 3 consignment shops in beautiful Needham. Here is a breakdown of how the stores are set up: Store 1: super high end clothes These clothes are high end designer and are discounted. Some of them are really discounted (so peak through the racks!). There are accessories and shoes, too! The store is well-laid out and the dressing rooms are huge. I found beautiful super high end designer dresses going for $30-$50!!! Store 2: high end clothes This store has nice clothes (express, gap, etc.) and has great discounts. It's smaller than store 1, but still set up nicely. There are some really nice accessories and shoes here, too! I put together a beautiful eyelet sundress with a wide red belt and red Steve Madden pumps. Together, it only set me back $52. Not too shabby! Store 3: super discounts Everything in this store is 50-70% off. Basically, all of the stuff from store 1 and store 2 that didn't sell gets sent here and discounted hardcore. For example: I got a nice pair of Express jeans for $11.50. These stores are very well-maintained and all of the ladies in the stores were so helpful and friendly. Well then. I won't be coming back here again! On my way home from an errand, I thought I'd stop by to just get an idea of what styles they carry. It was 5:53 and the sidewalk display was still out, but the little blonde gal comes out and says, "We're closing" and tries to block me from coming in. After confirming that they close at 6, and reminding her of the time... she reluctantly gives in. "Yeah, you can... it's fine." Then the other gal is carrying on this loud, casual conversation with ANOTHER customer, whom she obviously knows... and who finally yells, "What time y'all closing, 6? Girl, it's TIME! Shut this down! Lock the door!" To which the little blonde replies, "I can't." "Why, is there somebody else in here?" "Yeah." It's one thing to remind customers what time your establishment closes, but passive- aggressively running them out? You can do better. Way better. I haven't felt this unwanted in a store since I accidentally set foot inside a Lane Bryant when I was sixteen. I will never be back. read more

I finally had a chance to check out the Closet Exchange stores and am so glad that I did. There are three storefronts, I normally start the the 'Last Chance' store where items are marked down as low as 70%, then go next door. My favorite store is across the street where I always find nice designer pieces. Funky jewelry is always available at all three stores. I think any consignment store requires a little help to navigate through and make a find... but the fact that I was not greeted or asked for help in my 20-25mins in the store while the 2 or was it 3 store associates helped 2 other women and even made small talk with them while I looked fervently to see if they had any LV or Prada bags but with no help offered, goes a long way to make me not want to return there. I would give them 4 stars for their selection, but at least 1 needs to be taken away for not offering any help when I needed it. Cant respect any business that chooses who to service. read more

I have been consigning my designer clothing, shoes, accessories here for nearly 19 years. The staff has always been more than friendly, warm, professional and service oriented. I purchased a Max Mara cashmere blazer barely worn here in addition to a Burberry bag( small) and a gorgeous leather maxi skirt from Alan Bilzerian hardly worn as well. The condition of all my purchases is excellent. I discovered my dream Balenciaga gladiator sandals here too. My daughter and I even found her the perfect accessories for completion of her Comicon superheroine costumes at The Closet Exchange. The Closet Exchange has been in Needham almost as long as I have!! When in doubt consign with the Closet Exchange and shop there as well. You may be very pleasantly surprised by the treasures you will find. read more

I love this place. It's really like 3 separate stores--a "new" stuff store, a consignment store and a 50%+ store. But they'll all right near each other, so no worries. Although most of the time I end up striking out on finding good stuff (I'm on the smaller end), the people who work here (the owners and the really cool dude in the discount store) are just so darn nice!! I'm not usually one to strike up a conversation with store employees, but awww...loves them! And when I do find something good...I end up saving a boatload. I think I have a few pairs of Gap pants from here that still had the tags on, aww hell yea! read more

We just moved to Needham and I first saw this place when driving around near downtown. I put it on my mental "must go to" list. Saturday morning we found ourselves downtown and I actually convinced my "better half" to check it out. He was in a gracious mood so he agreed. We only went to the 50% to 70% off store because I didn't want to push my luck too much. :) While in this store something happened that has literally never happened to me before on a single day ... I found two pairs of jeans that fit me!!! I was so excited that not one, but two pairs of jeans actually fit me and fit me well. It normally takes me months to find one good pair and I wear them until they literally fall apart. Not only did I find two pairs of jeans but the prices - wow, they were incredible! I got said pairs of jeans along with a cute t-shirt we found for my mom for only $23! That wouldn't even buy me one leg of jeans normally! I cannot wait to come back and check out the other two locations. The store was bright open and everything was super organized by size. The prices were clearly labeled and were either 50% or 70% off of the "original" price. The woman who rung me up was also super friendly. I will be back for sure! read more

I have returned from a successful shopping experience at the Closet Exchange today. I have to say, even with the change, the variety and quality of what they get in is still exceptional. I shop pretty much consignment these days. And if there is a consignment store in a town, I will find it! Also, they always have a rack of final markdown clothes near the entrance. It's more organized than most stores selling brand new merchandise. No weird smells as some consignment stores. You will be getting top-notch stuff and can choose from three different storefronts, each with a different niche. My favorite is the one where everything is marked down up to 75% all the time. The staff is helpful but unobtrusive and Brenda, the owner and her daughter and husband are always there with a smile and a kind word. I can always trust that they're going to take care of my clothing and be CONSISTENT (which lacks in a lot of other consignment store...) with their pricing, how they do appointments, and how they do run inventory! I've been consigning at Closet exchange for years. They recently changed their agreement from a 50/50 split to a 60/40 split, and I voiced my opinion about it when I went to consign a few things recently. I didn't know that voicing a dissenting opinion would result in getting shut down and turned away. I then received a note from the owner that she was shutting my account because I made a "rude" comment. Really? I had an opinion about a policy change that I am sure many consignors have, and so instead of good business saavy and listening to your customer, one gets penalized? Wow. Something odd has happened to this store...possibly associated with the owner's health...i hope not. it is significantly smaller, takes fewer brands, and has less merchandise. Nowhere near as much fun to shop at as it used to be. I call it The Land Of Loveliness... This is the nicest family on earth, and even if I run in dressed for the hardware store, Brenda makes me feel like the prettiest girl in the world. There is something for everyone here- I'm living proof - and even if I don't find anything in the 'fancy store', the first stop for all the consignment goods, there will almost always be plenty across the street in their other storefronts. All sizes are represented, and many styles. The prices are very fair, and there's plenty from which to choose. Unlike some other (and nearby) consignment shops, this one doesn't purport to be so exclusive that even you cannot go in. Even though they offer some of the best designer items along with more accessible brands, everyone is welcome, everyone counts, and every woman can be beautiful. And isn't that well, just lovely? Go there, for one of the best lessons in customer service there is. You'll come out with a smile, and probably some new clothes too. read more

I am a buyer and a consigner here. I'm surprised at the comments on rigid consignment rules...they seem pretty standard to me and I have consigned at about 10 other places. I have done well with my consigning here. They are particular with what they accept and usually take about 1/2 of what I bring in but usually everything sells and at reasonable prices. Usually why they don't accept items usually comes down to four things: 1) They found a stain or imperfection I missed 2) they have too many "x's" in the store right now and don't have room for more or 3) they feel the style is dated or not a style they have buyers for. 4) the item doesn't fit the season. All valid reasons for not accepting things. Don't take it personally if they don't accept everything you bring in. I have seen people argue with them on what they don't accept and i don't understand this. They are experts and they know what sells. Do you want them to take items that won't sell and then disappoint you? Remember...you are bringing them stuff you didn't want either! Also, a tip for consigners...I usually call in the day before i bring my stuff in to ask if there are any items they aren't accepting at the moment and sometimes they will tell you "we have too many winter coats at the moment so don't bring those". That way you don't waste your time and energy on things they won't accept because they don't have room. As a buyer, I like that they have different stores focused on high end and more commercial brands. They have a fun punch card that gives you discounts on how much you spend. Like any consignment store sometimes you find tons of things and other times nothing. I think Brenda and the staff there are very nice and friendly. Brenda has always been pleasant, calm and friendly every time I have come by. I've never seen anyone working there who has been grumpy or unpleasant to work with. I've never been hovered over and feel I can take as much time as I want looking through the racks and trying tons of stuff on. I've also gotten some great deals on designer items. Good for buyers, not great for consigners. They donate your stuff and do not tell you, I've lost high quality items this way, that were in-style designer brands and in excellent condition. This is the chance you take there, can be disappointing. read more

I haven't bought anything here, but I have dropped off plenty of my own stuff. It's easier that trying to sell stuff yourself and it if doesn't sell or they don't like it, it gets donated. I love that they give you a donation receipt at the end of the year for taxes. And everyone who works there is really nice. read more

I adore this place. They have 3 different shops on the block that cater from high end to mall clothes. The owner and staff are awesome. They are all very friendly and genuinely seem happy (unlike the chain consignment shop on the block...not naming names...). The stores are all arranged well. It's easy to find items in your size or by designers you like. The last chance shop is fun. I've gotten some amazing things in there for next to nothing. I bought a cute top in there marked down to something like $6. i wore it out the first time and must have gotten 4 compliments. :) I also got a brand new pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes that were probably originally $500 retail for only $30. The high end shop has really nice items in there as well and I definitely was able to do some damage in there.... Looking forward to going again to see what new treasures I'll find. read more

The Closet Exchange is a wonderful place, ( or places, there are 3 different stores). There are three well organized, clean (they really don't smell), friendly stores. There are always an broad and interesting variety of items, shoes, jewelry, hats, clothes, great purses. Brenda, Bob, and their daughter Maggie are truly good and generous people. The staff they have chosen are friendly, helpful, and enjoy their jobs and the customers. The deals are great and there is something new every day.
