After months of having my clock I picked it up. He stated it was fixed. I got it home and it didn't work. I called the shop he wanted to charge me 180 to make a house call. He is only open on Wednesday. So I finally got a Wednesday off and brought my clock back in. He refused to honor his work stating I must have damaged it on the drive home. I just noticed I wrote a review about 11 years ago ... and I'm back. I have used The Clock Shop many years. I've been into the store, and Michael has come to my homes several times over the years. Most importantly, Michael has helped me with a grandfather clock I bought in Germany. He has serviced the clock many times and even stored it twice while I was moving between homes. There always was a glitch with the clock. it never ran consistently for a long period. While Michael often cleaned the clock, I must not have adequately explained the problem. Last month, I explained it a different way, such that Michael raised his eyebrows and said he wanted to look at something. He took the clock to the shop, dismantled everything, and identified a problem created during the manufacturing process. I've had the clock back in my home 2 weeks, and it has worked effortlessly, without fail. I am ecstatic to have this family keepsake. and I am appreciative of the extra effort made by Michael. read more

I had a problem with the number of chimes did not coincide with the hour. The guy who did it could not figure out what was wrong with the clock so he sent me a check exactly what I paid him. I then had to call someone else. I called "The Clock Shop" on Fulton Avenue in Sacramento. Michael came out and fixed the problem easily. That pleased me very much. My husband and I moved to Sacramento fairly recently. We furnished our house in Arts & Crafts style, both modern and antique pieces. We wanted an Arts & Crafts wall clock for one room. We went to the Clock Shop, and were surprised by the selection. They have some really impressive antique clocks as well as reproductions, real statement pieces. Floor to ceiling grandfather clocks. Mantel clocks. Wall clocks in various sizes. Cuckoo clocks. It would have been great to have a place to put one of the grandfather clocks, but we'd already pretty much filled up our house. So, we found a very nice golden oak wall clock, modern but with an Arts & Crafts/Mission look. The owners were very helpful and spent significant time explaining a number of their clocks to us. If we ever need another clock, we'll definitely go back. read more

We have been taking our clocks here for the 10 years we have lived in Sacramento. We have even brought clocks here for relatives that live in SoCal and Oregon. Because #1 they know clocks. #2 they are honest. #3 and they are nice people, not fast, they are methodical. They are not cheap. But if you want your clock to work, they are not gouging, it takes skill to fix them - and time to find/make/test parts. We have several clocks that are over 100 years old and still keep perfect time. Until they don't. Then we take them to the clock shop and get them cleaned up and fixed and work perfectly again. Really old clocks tend to have issues...just like old people (I am one, so I can say this). We also have some new clocks (less than 80 years old, but older than 40). Those have been easier to keep going - but as they age, I hope the Clock Shop is able to stay in business, we will need them! read more

Update. After I paid the repair guy $945 in cash the clock the stopped working two weeks later. First he was on vacation (probably with my money) and I had to wait even longer. First he said I had to swing the pendulum and it worked for one week before it stopped again. Next he said I needed to turn the crank and my clock doesn't have a crank. Today I waited all day and he did not show up. The money I gave him I could have used to fix my car. I really really think he doesn't know how to fix the clock and he comes up with excuses or just doesn't show up to fix the clock. My kids always look at me and shake their heads because they told me not to do business with this guys. So now I'm letting everyone reading this know it would save you a lot of time money and frustration NOT to do business with this business. read more

WOW!!! That's all I can say about the second visit of the Clock Shop owner at our house today! His pathetic and extremely rude demeanor was unacceptable especially dealing with a 97 year old Veteran, yes, hard of hearing but did not deserve to be yelled at. When my husband asked him a question he did not answer - just took his tool bag and on the way out the door told him that he could call him when the clock stops again but that he was not coming back. If you stand behind your craftsmanship and good customer relations this could have been a pleasant experience. Instead it ceases future dealings and when you read this, stay away to save yourself money and headaches. So Sad! read more

I recently brought in a cuckoo clock with a chain that needed to be re-engaged with the mechanism. Mike effected the repair within a short period of time, but also entertained us with genial banter directed to both us and his partner Mike. He charged a very fair and nominal amount, stating if it didn't work then the next step would be an expensive exchange of the entire clockwork. Excitedly, I took it home and hung it on the wall. The pendulum would swing, then stop. Desperate, I called the shop and was told that often you can run the clock with no pendulum for a half an hour and it would then function properly. The Clock Shop is a small, family owned store that services all types of time pieces from watches to grandfather clocks. The hours are limited, but the service was a pleasant experience. TCS also has some nice pieces for sale, and will even do house calls for grandfather clock repairs. I stumbled by this place on my way to work while in need of a couple watch batteries replaced. It cost $8.50 to replace the battery for each watch, and I was in and out in a few minutes. Several customers had come in during my wait, and they seemed pretty satisfied with their work. We inherited a grand father clock last year that wasn't working. I'm pretty handy and read all I could on how to get the clock running but had no luck. I called The Clock Shop, they explained their process, the estimated fees and I set up an appointment easily. Michael called ahead and arrived on time. Real true craftsmen who know their subject well. We took a pendulum wall clock to them for repairs after a failed attempt by a local clock repairman. They had it six weeks called us and its ready. I have waited 2 months to the day to write this review-gave this place the benefit of the doubt. Had I read all of the 1 star reviews prior to leaving my valuable heirloom antique French clock with these guys, I would never have wasted my time and money-so my bad. I gave the "Mike's" $470 for basically nothing. The clock kept better time before I brought it in. The repair, a broken piece forced back into place in some unorthodox manner looks like something done by someone who had never seen a clock before, someone who had no sensitivity for the beauty of this piece of art. The Mikes tried to stabilized the clock with a cheap piece of cork, cut badly and this did nothing to solve the problem. Maybe hearing strange clock sounds like they do all day has made them socially withdrawn because I was treated like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. This after they had kept my clock for months without a phone call. They would still have my clock it if I had not gone in when I did as I had forgotten they had it. They must not need the money because they acted like they could care less what I thought. All they were worried about was the CLAIM CHECK and made me feel like I had committed a felony for not bringing it in. I will never again do business with these people... read more

I have give a good review for the honesty of the people running The Clock Shop. I took a non-running German cuckoo clock vintage late 1940s in to The Shop to see if it could be saved. I could have easily spent several hundred dollars on repairs, but the proprietor told me it just would not be cost effective to fix the clock. A good reputation is probably the reason this business has been around since 1953. I would recommend them to anyone needing clock repair. read more

I have always received friendly service, the people were happy to answer my questions on properly maintaining my clocks and showed me how to manage a couple of idiosyncrasies with no charge. I have a Grand Father clock that I have not been able to keep running and after working with other supposed clock repair services, I had been reluctant to have anyone else tinker with it. After visiting The Clock Shop to have another small clock repaired, I decided to let them try and get my Grand Father clock going. Mike came out to my home the day after I visited his shop to bring my small clock back and to see what was wrong with the Grand Father clock. After a few minor adjustments he had the clock going again, and its been running perfectly for almost a month. I was very disappointed in the The Clock Shop and in particular the Mike who came to service my grandfather clock. Since the clock was being moved, I asked to bring it to the shop for servicing, but was told "No" they would service it in the new location. This gives them the opportunity to charge $95 for doing nothing. Mike recommended no repairs but new mechanical parts. The left and right weights do not drop. He said the repair cost would be $895 and to purchase and install new mechanical works would be $895, and that the new clock works would last longer than the repair. During the entire 10 minute "service" call Mike was unnecessarily condescending, rude and unhelpful. Don't waste your time and money with The Clock Shop! read more

Mike J and Mike L really know their stuff. Today brought in two of my chiming mantle clocks, as each did not seem to be working properly, one of them being stuck. In 5 mins Mike L had it unstuck and chiming - fantastic! The other clock had a minor issue, quickly resolved. He explained how to keep them running well. Was on my way inside of 10 minutes. Extremely rude to my husband. He called to see about getting our grandfather clock repaired. No matter what my husband explained to him, he still questioned what was wrong. That's why we called them- we don' know what's wrong! The person at The Clock Shop said " I'm going to ask you ONE more time what's wrong with the clock". I own an antique English single fusee skeleton clock. It never ran particularly well and in the last several years was a very nice boat anchor. I tried to get another clock shop to fix it which was a disaster and so turned to the Clock Shop. Mike, the owner, said he was reasonably sure he knew what the problem was, quoted me a price, and the deal was struck. I told him I didn't care how long it took just please get it running. After many weeks of fixing, adjusting and monitoring, he called me to pick the clock up. What a difference. The clock runs beautifully and no problems since. Having dealt with clock repair shops both here and in England where we use to live, I can assure you that Mike's skill in clock repair rivals that of any English or American shop. I've had a great experience with The Clock Shop, both in the past and today. Thinking the shop was open today (Saturday), I drove from Elk Grove to put my German made clock in for repair. I found the store closed, however, the owner of the store happened to drive by and saw my car parked. He pulled in and offered to open the store for me and check out the problem with the clock. It was something he could fix on the spot so I did not have to return on another day, and he did so willingly. He was friendly and accommodating, and was able to handily repair the problem with the clock. I will definitely return to this store and encourage anyone with an appreciation for all types of clocks to do so as well. read more

I brought in my clock that I thought had stopped working. Mike opened it up, tinkered a bit, gave me a new key for $10 and said it was all fixed up. I just needed to wind it more with the right key. About 3 years ago I brought my schoolhouse wall clock to the Clock Shop. It was a wind up clock that we had owned for at least 20 years. It no longer worked. I received an estimate for repair to its original "wind up" state and the estimate was somewhat beyond my budget. However the employee advised me he could convert the clock from a wind up item to a battery operated clock. This option was very affordable and it has been running now on this battery for over 3 years. We don't miss the original "donging" on the hour and half-hour. read more
