I remember looking longingly at the outdoor patio and what could only be barbeque equipment cloaked under plastic cover before entering the pub. If only the weather was nicer, I am sure the place would be buzzing with people drooling over the grill. Although we didn't arrive until 2:15pm after a wet and windy walk at the nearby Seatown, the staff cheerfully accepted our order (their last food order for lunch is 2:30pm). My boyfriend had the venison burger, I had the Chideock Scotch egg, and my friend had the goat cheese salad. Everything was prepared with great care and perfectly seasoned. It was fantastic value for money too, with the bill coming in just under £30 for three people with some food and a drink each. I highly recommend a quick (or slow!) bite here for those in the area.

I've stopped off for a snack or a quick drink a couple of times, and it's always really impressed me, and the lunch my parents and I had recently ranks as one of the best pub dinners the Andrews family can remember. Their crab sandwiches were fresh, as were the fish in their delicious creamy leek fish stew, while the ploughmans was huge. Desserts of chocolate and pecan brownie and banana fritters with toffee sauce were gobbled up. Ok, it's not cheap for a Devon pub, but the food is worth every penny - there was hardly anything on the menu I didn't want to scoff down. The pub itself is a charming sprawl of wooden rooms, and a small seating area out the front. It's homely and although the staff run a slick operation, they're still friendly and helpful. The pub was recently taken over by St Austell Brewery, so there's a good range of their beers, plus a couple of guest ales. This includes one local beer brewed in Branscombe. It's quaint, delicious, comfy and sits in one of the most stunning areas of the Devon coast. It is, quite simply, a perfect pub.

All home cooked food, quickly prepared and brought to your table. There is a menu of light meals but more substantial offerings are on a blackboard above the bar, such as: roast pork with vegetables, Boeuf Bourguignon with vegetables or cauli/broccoli cheese crumble with/without new potatoes to name a few. There's also a special puddings menu. Delicious coffee is served with Pringle type mint chocolates. Prices are very reasonable. Upstairs is a complete surprise, with lots of comfy chairs and books to browse. This floor leads onto a large decked, roofed area which would be ideal in the summer of a leisurely evening drink. The loos are great too! Well behaved dogs allowed and are even given a few chews as a reward. Highly recommended.

There was a black board with about 10 specials plus a regular bar menu. It is a 16th century thatched pub. We sat in front of a lovely log fire. The meals appeared to be homemade. My husband had liver and bacon which he couldn't fault with separate vegetables. We think that was £9.99. I had a jacket potato covered in prawns and they were happy for Mum to have a children's meal as she only has a tiny appetite. It serves locally sourced food and drinks. Att slå sig ner i trädgården med en kall Ale från något lokalt bryggeri och beundra landskapet och se solen gå ned är värt en resa i sig. Svårslaget må jag säga. Personalen är mycket trevlig och gästvänlig och pubens stora St:Bernardshund Heidi kommer gärna och blir kliad vid bordet. Ölen är mycket god om man gillar ale. Flera sorter från lokala bryggerier finns att prova och jag fann aldrig nån anledning att ens kolla om de hade nån "vanlig" lager eller sånt blask.
