We just returned from holiday in the Caymans and my wife wanted more Caribbean food. Clive's is truly the best in town. We went to the new North Miami location. I had the jerk chicken, cabbage and mac n cheese-all were flavorful and perfectly cooked. My wife had the brown stew chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage-all spot on. The owner, Norman, is welcoming and professional. Prices are very reasonable. This is our new go to spot. read more

I know a lot people talk about Clive's like it is the best thing since sliced bread, but it is not. Don't get me wrong, though, it isn't bad either. In a pinch, I like it. I have only had take away from there, but it was a little underwhelming. I bought the Jerk chicken plate with rice. The chicken came out pretty dry and, although spicy, I didn't think it was worth what we paid for. Maybe it is just a Miami thing and prices were a little high given the proximity to the Design District, but I felt that the Jerk would have been juicy, spicy, and filling. The portion size was good, the wait, not the best. Would I go again? Yes. I'll always give a place a second chance. Let's see. For me though, I have a couple of better Jerk places nearby. read more

If you're ever in Miami you should try this place. The Jamaican food is delicious and ambiance is spot on . Posters of The Harder They Come movie, reggae music and a mural of Bob Marley on the wall. My oxtails, rice and beans were tender and tasty. Hubby had goat and he gave it thumbs up. Waiter was friendly and attentive. Great place. read more

Random find on Yelp. Took a gamble for a Saturday lunch. Much say the food was delicious. The Mac and cheese was dry to my taste. Not pictured was some of the best tasting sorrel. I've ever tried. The waiter was mid. He tried to be nice but lying to me about freshly squeezed lemonade was not cool. The other waiter made up for it with the sorrel. Came here for the first time and the food was tasty. I didn't know what to expect from the spicy beef patty and I would say it was okay. The jerk chicken and curry goat was so freaking good though (mouthwatering) We also got Mac & cheese and potato salad (not pictured) I wouldn't order the Mac &cheese again not sure if it was just the time of day (2:30pm) it looked sad and seemed as it was sitting for way too long, was a bit dry and just ok. Overall would come back for the other two plates and the staff was friendly and on top of it. read more

I want to start by saying the dish is exactly what it's suppose to be. The fish was fresh and tender. My only suggestion is they put garlic butter on the fish and veggies, It would take the dish to a 6 out of 5! I ordered mine to go so I didn't interact with the staff too much but they were welcoming and nice over the phone. I was really skeptical about the Mac & cheese but they checked that box off with honors and that pushed it to 5 stars. I can't stress garlic butter enough though ijs lol read more

Several years since I'd last visited Clive's. Now it's twice in three months. I had the jerk chicken with white rice & steamed cabbage on the first visit. The food was pretty good. It was satisfying for Jamaican food, although the chicken could stand to be a little juicer and have more jerk flavor. The steamed vegetables were cooked to perfection. Also had the "ginger beer" which is really fresh ginger juice. A hair too sweet but the spice of the ginger felt great. Dined in on that visit and service was very friendly and efficient. Second visit was a Saturday evening takeout order. They were bussssyyy on the takeout side. (Dine-in and takeout are separated.) But service was still just as friendly and efficient. Wish I caught the lady's name who helped me because she was so nice! For takeout, I had oxtail with white rice and steamed cabbage, that spicy-sweet ginger juice again, and a beef patty - the only one left was spicy so I took it, although I prefer mild. The oxtail was cooked to tendee perfection with a rich seasoned sauce that the white rice held onto like a champ! Alongside that good steamed cabbage, I was well pleased with my food. The price was reasonable too. Only downside was the patty: it was dried out and although I prefer mild, when I hear "spicy", I'm looking for spicy. It was not at all spicy. Great service, good prices, good quality and taste. Clive's has been around for decades and is still kicking in the right direction, bringing authentic Jamaican food to the people. read more

My jerk chicken was decent for the most part . They use what appears to be a dry rub (very visible) in addition to the already seasoned chicken . I thought the combination was ok but not my favorite flavor profile for jerk chicken . Perhaps the amount of the dry rub was just too much or something but it was just ok to me . The rice and peas was abit dry as well and didn't taste of the typical coconut milk but helped by the side of oxtail gravy . The plantains finally weren't super ripened as I'd like them but were ok . The meal didn't come together nicely enough for me to say that I really enjoyed it . Everything individually was just ok . I also was able to sample the bbq chicken and it was very similar tasting to stew chicken . I don't know if I like it or not but I did notice grill marks so I know it was atleast made on the grill . Speaking to one of the workers, Brittany, I also found out that the mac and cheese and the potato salads are made with eggs which are no-no's and for all that I've mentioned, I am personally one and done with Clyde's . read more

We found Clive's Café on the best of Miami list. I am so happy that we did. I ordered the jerk chicken with macaroni and cheese and plantains. My son ordered the jerk chicken pasta with a side of macaroni salad and plantains. We were both blown away with how delicious the food was. The jerk chicken was to die for. I cannot even explain the flavors. The plantains were the best I've ever had. The macaroni and cheese was pretty good as well. Best of all we were served by Clive himself. Clive is a very personable man with a great smile. The restaurant itself has a nice ambience.Overall, I say Clive's is 10 out of five stars, but that's not an option. We will definitely be back. Thank you, Clive for a wonderful experience. read more

Me and my son just came back from a cruise and since we were in Miami I had to get some Carribean food. My cousin who is from Homestead recommended Clives in Little Haiti so I decided to give it a try and was glad I did. My son ordered the 3 spice beef patties and I ordered jerk chicken, with plantains and rice & peas. I must say that this was by far the best jerk chicken Ive ever had and Ive had some good authentic jerk before. The plantains were cooked perfectly and the chicken was delicious, especially the jerk sauce. The waitress was very nice and the establishment was very clean. i will definitely be back next time Im in Miami. read more

This place is listed as having the best Jamaican food in Miami. I beg to differ. With so many really good places, not just in Miami but also in Broward County, I don't think Clive's can hold that title anymore. We tried the jerk chicken with mac and cheese and fries, as well as the curried conch with rice and peas and cabbage. We also had a Ting and homemade sorrel. The menu does not have prices, so you have to ask your waitress the cost for each thing you order. However, the prices are reasonable, so you won't go broke if you just wait for the check to show up. The jerk chicken was good, but best with the sauce. Without the sauce, it was a tad dry. The fries (which we settled for because they were out of plantains at lunch time) were crispy and delicious and when I asked the waitress if they added a slight breading before frying she informed me that they came like that, frozen. The rice and peas needed more coconut, but had the perfect "shelly" consistency (as we Jamaicans say---meaning not too sticky). You really can't mess up cabbage. And the curried conch was just right, not too chewy and not tasteless. And there was a lot of it in the meal for $20. The sorrel was supposedly homemade. It was weak, lacking enough ginger and a strong sorrel flavor (as if it was watered down). But as a Jamerican, who not only cooks a lot of Jamaican food but tries all the spots in town, I must say I have go-to places that serve tastier food closer to home in Broward County. However, I cannot find curried conch on any Jamaican menu in Broward, so I may return to have it again and try some other dishes as well. read more

I've been here a couple times & this is my last time giving this place a try. I tried to give it a second chance but it just keeps getting worse. The jerk chicken is not how jerk chicken should taste, cabbage tasted like they were boiled in dirty water & the rice & peas tasted like instant rice made from a box. Even the lemonade tasted weird. I returned this morning for breakfast and the service was ON POINT! It is true that we were the only patrons there at around 9:30 on a Saturday, but the service was unbelievably friendly and FAST! If you've never had a Jamaican breakfast, do yourself a favor and try one at Clive's! While they have the standard American egg / cheese / bacon offerings, you'd be missing out if you skipped the Jamaican favorites. We had the ackee and salt fish and the callaloo and salt fish. The ackee resembled scrambled eggs in taste and texture and it was seasoned with a little spice. The callaloo was a sturdy green, lightly sauced. Both came with a non-sweet banana, yam and a dumpling. I never met a carb I didn't like, and the dumpling was no exception here. Other breakfast specialties include mackerel, cabbage with salt fish, grits and snapper. Heavy on the breakfast fish, but like I said, if that doesn't float your boat, they have (boring) American breakfast as well. We had a full day of work planned and we found the food to be filling without slowing us down. I felt energized and full of vim and vigor all day! What an irie way to start the day! read more

Let's start with the bad. Service was ridiculously slow on the day we went. There was only 1 waitress and the place was packed. One table walked out and said to cancel orders because of how slow, and I saw other tables getting impatient and I felt bad for the poor waitress who was kind and sunny despite everything. I just wish we were told that the wait time was going to be very long before we sat down. After we placed our orders, we waited over an hour to get anything at all - we weren't even given waters during this time and had to flag them down for this. Our food for our table of 5 came out at different times and without utensils which we also had to ask for. The waitress had to ask the kitchen staff multiple times to get our patties. She said this was an unusual day for them and that everything was going wrong so I don't believe the service is usually this bad. Now onto the good (the food!). The jerk chicken was very good, but the Jamaican beef patty was the true star. I could eat like 5 of those instead!! I think they were a bit stingy with the sides, specifically the plaintains (only gave 4-5 pieces). The plantains were very good. Salad was a great size for a side. Sauce for the jerk chicken is super spicy. The oxtail curry was a bit small but very good. They were out of curry goat unfortunately. Parking lot out front but also street parking available. read more

I was in the area and looking for Jamaican food and Clive's Cafe stood out amongst a few other restaurants. I visited late a few minutes before closing and ordered the Jerk chicken. You could taste that it was well seasoned. Not bad, not spectacular. The restaurant area is basically an order window with a register. There seemed to be a dining area adjacent but it was already closed. The Mac and cheese side was mediocre. The peas soup however was good, it had great authentic island flavor. All in all I would go back again. read more

Everything about this place was very organic to me. No fluff and nothing fake. Staff was genuine, food was good, and location was great. Food choices were delicious as we chose the oxtails, jerk chicken, mac & cheese, plantains, macaroni salad, and rum punch. All the items were delicious, well seasoned, and on point. I found myself in Miami Beach in search of some AUTHENTIC Caribbean oxtail and mac and cheese. A local suggested that this place was worth the Uber ride from Sobe. She was so correct! Clive's has a really casual atmosphere with a down home country feel . I felt like this was someone's house in my neighborhood and I was there to pick up my 'plate' from the cookout, ha! There were kids arriving from school and completing homework in one corner of the restaurant. To complete the country feel; as soon as I sat down , I was quickly brought a nice cold glass of water. The food is second to none . Huge portions, tasty seasoning , and elbow grease. Prices: 5/5 Ambience:5/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 read more

Felt like I was in Jamaica....... This place sits in Little Haiti and was absolutely hands down the best Jamaican Food I've ever had.............. The Jamaican patties were perfect - not too spicy and great for starting off your meal...... and so are the RUM PUNCHES! Be sure TONY is making and serving your Rum Punch - he makes them so good that you can barely taste the liquor that you're sipping on! When I finally got my curry chicken - I couldn't pause to take a breath because I was stuffing my face so much. I didn't care though - it would've been worth me passing out from a piece of Jamaica heaven. The Ox tails were PERFECT - not everyone can make them well; they literally melted off the bone. When we found out they served breakfast, we were so upset that we wouldn't have time to go back and try it. Next time! read more

Food and service was 10/10. Me and my family were visiting Miami after getting off of our cruise and we all enjoyed our food and would return. We had curry goat, curry chicken, jerk chicken oxtail, brown stew chicken, beef patties and rum punch (I personally wouldn't reorder but drinks are definitely subjective)! Basing this review solely on their beef patties because that's what I got from here and man were they tasty. I pretty much inhaled the two I got as a snack, I was pretty surprised. I had heard so much about this restaurant. I actually wasnt sure what to expect bc it's so well known, I was thinking maybe it would be more hype than quality food. I went there with my aunt and my sister. My sister had the brown stew snapper and that was great, I had the curry goat that was good too. The jerk pork was good, not my preference of the three dishes. Not bad just not as good as the others. The server was attentive and funny. Ambience is very simple. After a long day at work, got to sample some of the best offerings by Miami, checked some of the reviews and made this place a priority to visit, glad I got so sample several plates with coworkers I will gladly come back if in the area and sample more Here is everything we sampled and how all of it faired. The cow foot - could it possibly like eating crispy pata (deep fried foot of a pig), no but it was delicious, if it is on the menu and doesn't look like the normal, i'm ordering it, definitely must try The Shrimp Curry - sampled their version of curry shrimp, it was good, curry was not super heavy but on a whole it was flavorful dish The Jerk Chicken - semi spicy, well flavored, chicken meat was juicy and tender, another must try dish The Oxtail - anytime I see this option on the menu imma order it, their version of oxtail was thinly sliced bits of oxtail not the fairly large pieces of oxtail that I am use too. I would order this again since the flavor was robust, may have to order two plates of this dish to get my fix next time The vibe in the spot is homey, one story, some tables, well spaced, considering I ate here last year during this time (August 2019) I will definitely be back if in the area. food ***** exceptionally delicious, must try all their dishes price $$ service ***** very helpful ambiance **** homey feel, clean, well air conditioned read more
