Being the daughter of a dentist makes me more than nervous to go to anyone but my dad. Alas, now that he is retired, I have no choice. The search for a dentist started. My husband found Dr Harrells office because it was on the lower level of our chiropractors building. He went in to talk to them and was convinced that the receptionist was the nicest person he had ever talked to. I called their office a day or so later to see if they took our dental insurance plan and after scheduling new patient exams and cleanings, I immediately called my husband to let him know that he was right. Amazing customer service! Dr Harrell was fantastic, their technology is all up to date. Great chair side manners and I felt he was completely skilled. My husband went to his appointment and even though he normally has to take relaxers prior to cleanings and dental work, he now willingly goes with no meds! The dental hygienists are gentle and just the right amount of chatty. They remind my kids of good dental habits, and never chastise or make them feel bad for not flossing as often as they should! Growing up I went to the dentist every 6 months with a cavity free great experience. After my dentist retired, I was forced to look for another doctor. After several miserable tries, I gave up for about 7 years, until I broke my tooth. Never having any dental work done, I was recommended by a friend to try Dr. Harrell. Communication is great! Staff and Doctor is are awesome! I live in Tigard Or (now) and I still drive the 40 mins to Vancouver to see Dr. Harrell. The doctor is amazing at giving the numbing shots you NEVER feel them.. When I had to have 4 teeth pulled for my braces, they were so great and Ashley called the next day to check on me to make sure my pain level was okay and that everything was fine! I had been shopping around for a good quality dentist for quite awhile. It only took me 61 years to find the best dentist I have ever had all my life. When I met Dr Harrell I was extremely impressed with him from the beginning. He is a very compassionate, kind, gentle, detail oriented, caring, extremely knowledgeable and listens to all your concerns and needs. After an extremely thorough exam he told me his thoughts, opinions, and recommendations. Prior to extracting a tooth he walked me through each step by step and always asked you how are you doing. I am terrified of shots and when he was giving me shots before the procedure I never felt any pain whatsoever from the shot. I asked him if he was going to do the shots soon. Lord behold he was all done and just waiting for it to take effect. It took less than 5 minutes for him to extract an old crown and tooth. I could not believe how efficient and quick the procedure took. I am extremely excited right now with happy tears to know in 4 weeks I will have my beautiful smile back. He has a wonderful friendly professional staff that treat you like part of the family with their arms wide open with love and kindness. I have had a couple bad experiences in the past with dental procedures and my fear and anxiety after those 2 incidents caused my stress, anxiety and fear started becoming more severe due to the horrible and painful experiences. I think feedback is so important and it's awesome when I can give such a glowing review. We relocated here from across the country a few years ago and had not found a satisfactory dentist to replace the one we left. I found Dr. Harrell based on research from reviews, perusing his website and speaking to Christine on the phone a couple of times. She never rushed my questions and was very personable and super nice. Dr. Harrell is really as great as his video seems. His whole staff from Christine to Cindy to Andrea were tops. We were looking for a dentist, a good dentist, for our 18 yr old son who needed his wisdom teeth evaluated. More than likely removed, as one had started to bother him. We are of the mindset that if they aren't a bother, leave your body parts in! Dr. Harrell agreed and also mentioned that wisdom teeth don't cause crowding - which I had also read on various studies, so I wasn't about to let our orthodontist bully us into having all 4 of them out until/if they caused a problem. This is our 3rd child in orthodontics, so we know the drill. Our son was evaluated and as we figured, 2 needed to come out. Dr. Harrell said he could handle them as they weren't a complicated extraction and then ON THE SPOT said that he had just enough time to do them right then if we so chose! How awesome is that! Plus Dr. Harrell has the best bedside manner, has a great sense of humor, is a confident, calm expert in explaining details and just overall makes you feel comfortable. The whole staff were so attentive. My husband and I were double-teaming him with questions but there was never any pressure or fear tactics. Our son was treated so well and it was just the best dental experience. The extractions went very well and our son has recovered nicely. Dr. Harrell personally called the next day to see how he was doing. So, if you think the reviews are too good to be true, they are not. Dr. Harrell and this office deserve every one of them. I am an NP, and actively work in the medical field. I value my patient's satisfaction and well being, time and money. That being said, I recognize that, working in the medical field and valuing these things, I have higher expectations of others that do as well, but this clinic would not have met the lowest of standards on the worst day. At my first visit, I explained that I was pregnant and did not want to undergo any X-rays (at the recommendation of my OB). They agreed. 2 crowns and 1 filling were recommended at that visit, one of the crowns being of a more urgent nature. I scheduled this right away at their recommendation. My insurance information was provided to the clinic, and I was told that it was verified and that there would be no out of pocket costs for me to have the care that was recommended. When I returned for my crown 2 weeks later, it was apparent that this small, private practice had no idea who I was (which was discouraging as this is why I seek out smaller practices). I had taken the day off of work to be there for the crown. They were completely shocked and surprised to learn that I was pregnant, and said I had no choice but to have X-rays, as the insurance would not pay for my crown unless they had images of the root tips...would have been nice to have been made aware of this before I requested the day off and was in the chair. So, I had X-rays... As I am there for my crown, the air and water equip. would not work, so they got me up, bite blocks, dam, numb and made me march across the clinic to another room where the equipment was actually working (this instilled a lot of confidence). After completing my crown, I was informed that in fact, nobody had actually ever checked my benefits, despite what I had been told, and my primary insurance did not cover major procedures like a crown for another 4 months, so there would be out of pocket cost. Again, it would have been nice to know this ahead of having the procedure and having no choices. As it turned out, the out of pocket cost was not significant, and the office agreed to write off the few measly dollars. It has been approximately 4 weeks since my crown, and I continue to have pain and sensitivity in the tooth, and am not sure if a root canal should have been done to begin with, or the crown I had done was just not done well, but suffice it to say I have no confidence in the staff or dentist in this office. I had no issues or pain in this tooth whatsoever before Dr. Harrell performed work on it. My husband established in this office at the same time that I did. He was also told he needed major work to several teeth as well. Insurance information was provided, and again we were told that benefits were checked, and there would be no out of pocket costs. Well, as it turned out, nobody actually checked this either. He did not have dual coverage as we thought. So, a crown and root canal later, they were really sorry, but there was going to be out of pocket costs. To make matters worse, and really give me pause about the ethics of this practice, each time we spoke with them, the price we were going to owe kept increasing. In the end, we were told several hundred dollars would be owed to finish my husband's crown, which was only halfway done and very painful (again no symptoms or pain in the tooth prior to all this work was done). When I asked that they work with me, as they told us benefits were verified and provided us with an estimate that was grossly different from what they were now quoting us, they said verifying benefits was not their job. Apparently they weren't as willing to work with us on this claim, as there was much more money to be made here than the few dollars they agreed to write off of my claim. I believe this office to be completely inept and unethical. If they don't feel it is their job to check your benefits prior to providing you with an estimate, then perhaps they should disclose that. And, the care is sub-par to say the least. read more

I had a great dentist for years. When she moved out of state, I had to find a new one. I went through 2 other dental offices before finding Dr. Harrell's office. His staff is VERY friendly and very focused on customer satisfaction. Everyone there seems to genuinely enjoy their work. This creates a relaxed & welcoming atmosphere. But the real reason I'll keep going back is the quality of the work - they are professional, very interested in making the patient comfortable and very interested in sharing information about what's happening in your mouth. Today I had a cavity filled and I told Dr. Harrell I was nervous about getting the shot to numb my gums. Wow - what happened next was amazing. He did such a good job that I did not even feel the needle go in! He went very, very slow so as not to hurt me because he knew I was anxious about it. I tend to have anxiety over receiving anesthetic (I don't even like to say the "s-word). After having several fillings done, I know now that Dr. Harrell really is good! I've not ever had any pain during or after treatment he provided.
