Mark took us out for our first outdoor climbing experience and it was memorable, fun, and well worth the money. Mark was professional and we felt safe on the rock. All equipment we needed was provided. He gave us tips and tricks on improving our skills and let us try out different pieces of equipment. He also recommended a better climbing area due to weather which we appreciated. There was multiple points of contact before the meet-up to plan and ask questions, and he was flexible about rescheduling after our flight was cancelled. He even offered pick up and drop off as we didn't have a rental car. He tailored the climbs to our skill level where we felt challenged without it being too hard. I ordered some practi bolts from their online store. I was nervous about shipping because I needed to get them by a certain date so I could have them to go to Thailand. I ordered a bit last minute I'm afraid. I texted at almost 11 pm and figured I would not get a reply until the next day. This was my first time I had ever done outdoor rock climbing. After hiking up about half a mile to the rock face, Dan taught us how to properly use the climbing equipment and we were climbing within an hour. We had enough time for everyone to climb 2-3 times. I was worried about the beginners course not being challenging enough, but it was perfect. Dan emphasized on safety, and double checked every safety equipment before the climbs. Dan of Denver Climbing Company is amazing!!! I've never been to Colorado before but a lot of people SWORE that I should go, saying I have a "Colorado personality." I had no idea what that meant but now that I've been to Colorado, I think it means that I'm adventuresome, friendly and just overall awesome! Yay Coloradoans (and a little pat on the back for me too)! LOL! So, when I learned that I had to go to Colorado for 3 days for training for work, I decided to fly in a few days early and make a mini-vacation out of it. And I decided that since I was going to spend these extra days in Colorado by myself, I might as well do what I want to do when I want to do it. So I booked an early flight and started to look for things to do from my bucket list and that's when it hit me: Oh holy crap! What did I get myself into? I'm SCARED! For reasons that I won't get into, I've lost a LOT of confidence in myself and am working on re-gaining it now. No, I don't have low self-esteem & yes, I like myself as a person. It's just that sometimes life just slams you hard and you find yourself quaking a little trying to get back up. That's where I was. My life was on the up and up but I was still quaking from a fall that I had earlier and didn't trust myself like I used to. A part of me started questioning whether I could accomplish the things on my bucket list. "Maybe I should wait until I'm fitter, stronger, bolder?", I thought. But then I realized that the quickest way to becoming the person that I want to be is by trying to be that person NOW. So, even though I feel like a short, weak-armed chubby chick, I decided to book a rock-climbing class with Denver Climbing Company & try a few other "firsts" too. Unfortunately, one of those "firsts" was staying at a hostel. I've always been curious but never had a friend who wanted to go to one and was scared to go by myself. I decided to stay at a hostel during my first night in CO only (I'm SO glad I didn't do more than that!). BIG. MISTAKE. My flight was delayed and I didn't make it to the hostel until 3am in the morning. I was placed in a room with 3 men -- 1 of which smelled like a skunk & snored loudly, the other whimpered and moaned in his sleep (he actually sounded like a girl having sex which is an uncomfortable thing to be listening to when you're the only girl sleeping in a room with 3 strange men), and the 3rd slept sitting up (I'm not kidding). Despite the weird situation (the skunk guy actually followed me around outside the room before I found out he was going to be one of my roommates), I was so tired that I quickly nodded off as soon as my head hit the pillow. Something must have disturbed my sleep because I woke up at around 6am and decided to use the restroom only to come back and find skunk guy in my bed. I left the hostel immediately and went and sat at a Starbucks instead. Good news: staying at a hostel is now off my bucket list so I won't have to experience that again. Bad news: I was ridiculously sleep deprived when I drove over to Table Mountain for some rock climbing. So, going outdoor rock climbing and learning a new skill when you're feeling tired, sapped of energy, and disconnected from yourself (I felt like I was watching myself try something but wasn't actually experiencing it) is not the best idea. But Dan is just so awesome that it ended up being an experience I would like to have again anyway (but maybe with more sleep, a hotel & a flight that came in at a decent hour). Dan is really knowledgeable -- so much so that other climbers could tell he knew his stuff and would go to him with questions. I trusted him with my safety and he's very laid back and encouraging too. I didn't make it all the way up during my first climb (I actually lost my grip then lost my nerve so I can attest to the fact that the equipment works!) but he didn't make me feel pressured or feel bad about myself so I made it up during my second try instead. He also went above and beyond what you normally would get. For example, he brought a camera, had us take pictures of each other, and sent us the pictures of ourselves within a couple of days free of charge! He also provided shoes for us (which made a HUGE difference) in addition to the other equipment and, when I realized that the water I brought was nasty (I brought Propel which tasted like slimy salt water -- ew!), he kindly offered me an extra bottle of water for me to drink instead. I couldn't believe how little I paid for the experience given that he spent about 4-5 hours with us. If I have the opportunity to go to Colorado again, I definitely plan on looking Dan up and taking another class with him. I highly recommend him! read more

I called Dan and explained that I am 5.11c gym climber from Chicago and wanted to do my first multi pitch but was concerned about altitude. Dan picked route that started with Ride The Snake, a 5.9+, where he could see how I climbed. We linked the first 2 pitches together and then stepped it up after I blazed through it. We did the Nice Ride 5.10 traverse over to the Gneiss roof which is a 5.10a/b. After pushing over the final roof and through the crimpy crux we chilled at the top and enjoyed the view before rappelling down. AWSOME super fun day!!! Dan picked a route he knew he could assess my climbing and then either retreat or push on and challenge me. I will be calling him in the future. read more

Fantastic experience and great people. My 10 yr old daughter and I had a really great experience. We signed up for the Fun Climb on North Table. Neither of us had any real climbing experience other than playing around on a rock wall from time to time. Dan was great to work with and help me out as I was planning the trip and stayed in communication as our day approached. We were in a small group with two other people. The short hike up was enjoyable and our instructor, Mark, was fantastic. He was a genuinely good natured individual willing to help you learn and coach you up if you asked for tips. He did a great job working with all four of us and we all felt like we got the individual attention you hope for, but often don't get, in these types of things. In terms of going on an event like this, I also felt incredibly fortunate because Mark was great with the adults as well as my 10 yr daughter, which was fantastic.
