I'm not sure if it's the owner or manager who advertises that they sell pigs, lambs, and cows for butcher...but the flyer is misleading about the freezer ready weight. The animals went into the butcher at much lower weights than what was implied. The cost of the animals was also high compared to what we have recently paid to other people who do the same thing, AND the quality wasn't very good either. I told the manager the flyer was misleading, but he didn't correct it when I saw his flyer around again, so I can only assume he's trying pull one over on people. The workers are generally rude too. I used to go to this place to buy all my chicken feed, because I wanted to give my business to a small local business, but I've switched to Lees Feed in Shingle Springs. read more

I love this feed store. Family owned and run business. The employees are always nice and friendly especially Teri and Greg. It's further for me to drive but the prices are much better than Lee's Feed which is only a couple miles from me. I used to buy hay and have it delivered from Lee's and the delivery fee was higher even though I was so close. I loved that there were no mask requirements in their store during the pandemic. I love the buyer program for the Taste of The Wild cat food. My cats are very healthy, according to the vet. Also, I got some chicks from them, and they are very healthy, too. The store always has plenty of help on hand, and I like that they sell special feeds for various birds such as the Mizuri brand of duck starter. They are teeny tiny pellets (spherical in shape). They don't get mushy in the water, they float and are small enough for tiny ducks. read more

We have been using this store for years but are switching to Lee's. Two reasons: they stopped carrying Bar Ale brand in barrels and NO MASKS. Not one single employee wore a mask nor did they social distance. Plus it was full of no mask shoppers also with no attempt to social distance. They cannot meet the needs of their customers. I have seven horses and wanted to buy 36 bales of hay, to last my horses a month (they have supplemental pasture grazing) and the owner accused me of wanting to horde hay. On another occasion, they were having a hay sale. I called from my job, in Sacramento and asked if they had enough for me to get a small trailer load and was told they had plenty. I took off work early and drove an hour to the store and my boyfriend met me there, with his flat bed trailer. I told them how much I wanted and was told that I had to pay first. I went into pay and came out to find they were loading the trailer of a customer who hadn't paid first. I asked the clerk why they gave me so much misinformation and began video taping and she called the police on me. Months later, I was at a now out of business feed store, on Missouri Flat Road and that same clerk was working there and tried to sell my boyfriend and I pot. On another occasion, I ordered hay to be delivered and they couldn't deliver for almost two weeks. Ridiculous! read more

Do not shop here. I Returned dog chews that when opened smelled strongly like chlorine. The store would only give me credit for unopened chews because the chew I was returning was opened. Of course it was opened or how would I have known. Anyway he said he couldn't resale it. So with no concern at all proceeded to put returned unopen chews back on the shelf for resale. read more

When I first went to the store for crickets I saw they had rats. Ive always wanted one so I ordered the supplies then came back for the rats. I got two. I didn't get to pick. One of the rats they gave me has a stub for a leg. (If you know anything about rats they will sometimes chew off limbs when caught in traps or in stress). I only go there to get crickets and mealworms now. Today I went back and all the rats were gone except one. He has nothing but a bowl of food and a bowl of water. No toys. Very very depressing. This is our go-to feed store. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. It's a low-key environment which I prefer over the "boutique" feed store nearby. The quality of their hay is far superior (and better priced) compared to the other local feed store; our goats wouldn't even touch the hay we bought at the other place. The guys at C&W have helped me with numerous goat and chicken issues and I never felt like I was being upsold on things I didn't need. read more

I have been a regular customer since moving to Placerville, but not any longer. This has never been my favorite place to shop. (Employees are always hanging out and act like it's an inconvenience to help.) I've been here twice since the pandemic and both time I've been made to feel extremely uncomfortable. You see, I wear a mask to help stop the spread of COVID-19. No one in the store, employees or customers, were wearing masks or staying a safe distance apart. I didn't say anything because it was clear it would not have gone well. It's sad how this business puts money over safety. I've tried C&W a few times and they either rarely have what I'm looking for in stock, or their prices can't compete with Double Diamond or Lee's. It's too bad too, C&W is closer and more convenient for me, but Lee's simply has a wider selection (rarely ever out of anything) and Double Diamond has the best prices of the larger more established feed stores, at least for the products I regularly buy anyway. Also the staff seems less friendly and not as helpful than at the my other two feed store options. I would like to be able to give C&W more of my business, but so far they haven't impressed or been as consistent as DD or Lee's. read more

These guys gave us a whole box of samples to ensure my German Shepard would tolerate the food (she has allergies). They are close by and have always provided me with friendly service. Support small businesses and shop local! I've found their Call of the Wild dog food to be reasonably priced for a quality food.
