    View of Molokai - VN

Thanks to the Montage Kapalua and Yelp, my friend and I got to experience the infamous Cliff House! ATMOSPHERE: Perched on a low, rocky cliff off the Montage Kapalua's property, the intimate glass-walled "house" overlooks the Pacific with the island of Molokai as its backdrop. Inside is a small bar, communal table and low tops, with high tops lining the outdoor balcony. Restrooms are located on the first level of the House. THE CLIFF HOUSE: Originally built in 1940 for the managers of the now defunct Honolua Plantation, it was recently renovated and is now operated by the Montage Kapalua, though used only for private events. VEUVE CLICQUOT EVENT: In December 2017, a few of us Elite Yelpers were invited to an event that was actually open to the general public. The House was gussied up in French company Veuve Clicquot's signature orange-yellow colors via logo banners and table umbrellas. The pricey menu featured Champagne & cocktails by the glass (starting at $23) or by the bottle (starting at $138). Small bites available were oysters, tuna tartar, pavlova, crudo and burrata, starting at $22. We were served specifically the Rich Cocktail drink in which I chose the pear flavor that was very refreshing, followed by a glass of their Yellow Label. We sampled all of the small bites except for the oysters, and all were absolutely delicious! We ended with a meringue dessert that wasn't on the menu. SERVICE: The outstanding service started even before we got to the Cliff House as we were greeted by Katherine (I believe was her name) at the valet area as we exited our car. She walked us to the lobby and explained how to get down to the event and even popped in during the event to make sure everything was going okay. The servers at the Cliff House were friendly, professional and attentive. I'm sure that tending to a table of Yelpers might seem challenging but we're all cool peeps! OVERALL: The perfect place for an exclusive event of 40 guests or less.

Located off the Coastal Trail and on Montage's beach: Veuve Cliquot pop-up!

After an invigorating walk on the Coastal Trail, we discovered that the Hale Veuve Cliquot pop-up bar was open. Quel régal! We had chosen a few coupes de champagne, but Randy our server reminded us that the sun would warm the champagne quickly. He suggested two "Rich cocktails" with pineapple and berries. My first thought was, "How can you do that to Veuve Clicquot?" It is a nearly perfect and pricey champagne that doesn't need any ice or mixture, but we tried them and were not disappointed. Refreshing and not too sweet. Still, these cocktails would be good with California sparking à la Roederer. The VIEW! Impressive over the water location next to a popular cliff jumping area. Solid and personable service even though we were back from a sunny hike and not too fancy. A taste of the finer side of life!

This review is for the Champagne Hale at the Montage at Kapalua Bay. You may also find this familiar with close to "cliff house" for the locals ;) I had the honor to attend an end of the 2017 year event with our new Maui Community Ambassador Maria P. What a way to say Aloha! The drive was a bit of traffic for my girlfriend and I from Kihei, but that's to be expected. It's totally worth it to venture to the Westside. Valet park at Montage and mention you're headed to the Vueve Clicot Champagne Hale and they will give you directions to the trail. From the ocean, you'll see a delightful trail of that famous Goldenrod, set amongst lanterns, and an adorable beach cruiser and accessories set against the most Luxe Hale I've ever seen. Cozy seating is located under umbrellas on the lanai. You can also take a seat at the family style counter height, family style tables. Be prepared for the view - it's breathtaking! From the ocean as far as you can see, to the cove known as Cliff House - for the adventurous divers, you'll be in for a treat. Come for a host of specialty champagne cocktails and deluxe tapas offerings. From crudo to ceviche and an off menu merengue.

    Yes ... go this way!

Seriously ... one of the best sunset views on the planet. This week, champagne is flowing everyday from 4 to 8 amd it is open to the public. Very special! I had the berry muddled drink today and it was awesome. I'm coming back tomorrow! Cheers!

Ummmm! How could a champagne house off the shore of Maui, where you cliff dive, swim over & enjoy a glass of Champs be less than Golden?! I believe in Magic!

Cliff House Jumping spot, a must do on Maui, super fun way to spend an afternoon!

This was one of my favorite spots on Maui. It can be a little hard to find but if you park on the street near Seahouse restaurant you can continue following that street on foot then turn into Montage and find the park trail and follow it the cliffs! There's a nearby beach, and smaller spots for the kids to jump too!

    You can see Molokai!

She allowed me to talk until I was calm (I get a little nervous with a new person) and made sure I was very comfortable. The massage felt so good I almost fell asleep. I felt amazing afterwards. No aches and pains. I felt 20 years younger. Thank you Holly. You're amazing!!! I came back 3 days later and had a massage from Piper. It was not relaxing. I'd call it more energizing. She worked the muscles hard. A very different massage. I definitely did not fall asleep during this massage. No talking, the music was annoying and the temperature was extreme. Sadly not my preference but might be someone else's. (My impression was the Holly let the client direct the massage where Piper told the client how the massage was going to happen). I will make sure I request Holly and change my schedule to match hers if necessary. She relaxed my muscles and touched my heart and soul. Mahalo. The receptionist is really sweet. She's nice to talk to and very knowledgeable about the shop and various things in the shop. She remembered my name when I called back to switch days and times. Susie was a great attendant. Everything was clean and well stocked. She even made sure the kettle water for my tea was hot. Thank you!!!

It was actually kinda busy for 9pm. Folks at the bar and a few tables. It was seat yourself though so we grabbed a spot and our waiter came within a couple minutes to greet us and bring waters. I already knew what I wanted: TROPICAL MAHI RICE BOWL: mahi filet over a bed of rice with slaw, mango salsa, poblano sauce, sour cream, cilantro & lime. The mahi was grilled and delicious!! I asked for a side of hot sauce and that completed the dish. Absolute !! The service was really great, I enjoyed Michael and his conversation. He was so interesting and definitely made the experience 5 for us. The other thing I really appreciated about Happy Fish is that they didn't bust your wallet. The prices were competitive and because of that, I'll definitely be back. I saw they have a happy hour menu too 9-11pm, I'm going to try that before I leave along with black light bingo Wednesday nights!! More fun to come and I'll def be telling all my friends and family who come to Maui to hit up Happy Fish. Amazing service, bomb food, great prices, and awesome vibe. Can't ask for anything more!!

We stayed in the middle tower with a glorious view that made the stay so magical! Shower pressure was amazing, housekeeping was efficient and thorough, and the room and balcony were plenty of room for the three of us. There's a beautiful mini waterfall as you enter the lobby, complete with flamingos wading and colorful birds on display in the daytime. Tip: at 9 am you can come down and have your kiddos feed the koi! There are water refilling stations all over the property, including one on every floor next to the ice machines. There were only two elevator cars in our tower, but I never waited long for one which was great. At check in you are given towel cards which you trade for towels when using the pool: return the towels, and you get the cards back, then come back and do the same next time. You can also trade towels for fresh ones any time. A couple of restaurants onsite / adjacent to the hotel which were equally good. It's also a hop, skip, and a jump to Whalers Village, so very convenient location. Valet parking was a bit steep, but only $5 more than self park so we opted for it. As busy as I imagine they get, I never had to wait more than 5 min to get my car. And the attendants were probably one of the nicest and friendliest I've met. Staff just began to hang up when called and it took going to the front desk and yelling a lot to affect the closure of one of these room parties. Good luck with the sea of crap around the pools too! From the lobby's balcony, you look out at the beautiful landscaping, the fun pools, and the beautiful ocean staring right at you. The "Magical" Highlights Let's start with the highlights, because parts of this trip were truly breathtaking. * The Beach & Black Rock: The beach was absolutely stunning and surprisingly uncrowded. The most magical part of the entire trip was wading in the water at Black Rock. Two days in a row, I had two HUGE turtles swimming around me; it felt as if they were following me and playing with me. It was the most beautiful sight I've ever encountered. * The Staff: The staff deserves a medal. Every person greets you with a "Happy Aloha" that feels genuine. My husband and I felt like we'd been best friends with the poolside bartender for years. * Housekeeping: The housekeeping staff was absolutely amazing. Every time we came back to our room, it was pristine and very clean. I made sure to leave a $10 tip every day just to let our housekeeper know that we truly appreciated her service. * The Drink: Order the "Put the Lime in the Coconut." It's $22, but it became my very best friend. The Room & The View The hallways leading to the rooms are a tad bit outdated, as are the rooms themselves. However, you are only spending about 5 to 10% of your time in your room anyway. * The Mountain View: We had a room facing the golf course, which offered the most beautiful mountain views. * The Balcony: Our balcony was only big enough to sit one person, but I truly enjoyed sitting out there every morning with my coffee. It's not worth spending the extra hundred dollars for an ocean view when the water is just a short walk away. Pro-Tips for Your Stay * The Pool Chair Hustle: If you want a spot by the pool--especially if you want one with an umbrella--be prepared to put your towels out on the lounges around 6:30 in the morning. By the time you actually head down between 9:30 and 10:00 AM, they will pretty much all be full. * The Safeway Save: I highly recommend stopping at Safeway to pick up items for your refrigerator and having some beer on hand. It helps save a little bit of money considering the other costs. * The $47 Breakfast Gamble: Be prepared to spend $47 on the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. Some days it's an absolute hit, others it's a bit of a mess, but the waitstaff and hostesses are always amazing. Take full advantage so you can skip lunch! * The Starbucks Struggle: Expect a 30-minute wait. But hey, who cares about the wait? You are on vacation time! The Cost of Paradise Along with your daily room charge of $600 or above, be prepared for the extras. It adds up very quickly: * $56 daily surcharge fee * $45 daily garage parking fee * $47 breakfast fee (per person) * Extra charges for umbrella and chair rentals on the beach The Verdict: If you want a great pool, a stunning beach, and turtle encounters, this is your place. If you want updated amenities and a bed that doesn't swallow you whole (ours had quite a "dip"), you might want to look elsewhere.

There's a lot to like about the setting itself. That said, this is a large, high-volume resort, and the overall experience reflects that. Pool areas felt crowded, with frequent competition for chairs, and poolside service seemed stretched--wait times were longer than expected for a property at this price point. Food options leaned heavily toward casual, bar-style items, which felt mismatched relative to the premium pricing. Logistically, the resort is quite spread out. Getting from the rooms to the lobby or main areas can take 10-15 minutes depending on location, which adds friction--especially with kids. Some elements of the experience also felt a bit dated and less polished than expected. We also had a child who was sick during part of the trip, which certainly affected our experience, but the high-density, crowded nature of the resort made it harder to navigate that situation comfortably. Overall, this property is likely a good fit for families looking for a lively, busy resort atmosphere with lots of activity. Travelers seeking a quieter, more efficient, or higher-touch experience may want to consider smaller or lower-density options in Maui
