If you know where to look, there are numerous off-road walking trails through the trees and brush. During the Christmas season, they reopen it for a drive-through Christmas lights exhibit. Personally, I find it nostalgic and beautiful, maybe even romantic, to walk through the fall or winter evening with a friend. It offers some of the most fantastic views in Kansas City. My favorite spot is to sneak to the top of the water fountain and light up a blunt!

This course is generally used for the Kansas City Open, an annual tournament bringing some serious throwers to WaterWorks. If you are undaunted by a steep pitch, then Hole #1 may be just your jam. Depending on which basket level you are playing, distances and difficulty will vary. I'm such a noob but love to combine the steps with disc, so I play A baskets, but bear in mind that many hazards and natural impediments are in play regardless of your choice. Given its popularity, this course is very well maintained by the KC parks and rec department. Of course, there are trash receptacles around but the courses are always clean and there are plenty of facilities. You may end up having to let advanced throwers play through, but that's just golf. Great course, with a sensational view of downtown KC on a clear day, and a jewel of the Northland.

I arrived before noon and it was already getting muggy out. Being earlier, the course wasn't too crowded, but still had a steady flow of players. The first thing that strikes you is the elevation changes of the course, leaving quite a few challenging up-hill throws and a few glorious shots where you attempt to bomb one off the tee. During my visit, a lot of the signs at each hole where torn up. Must be some kind of course upgrades/upkeep. No prob for me, although I was a bit confused as to where the pins were and even had a little trouble finding a couple tees. But that's usually how it goes the first time you play a course! If you love disc golf and are in KC, this is a must visit course.

The architect of that renown "City Beautiful" movement was none other than George Kessler, although the park was named for him many years after opening. The top attraction is Cliff Drive, although it is no longer accessible by vehicle. Due to trash dumping and late night crime, the beautiful drive with cliffs, waterfalls and lush greenery can only be accessed by foot or bike. The frisbee golf course looked pretty neglected on my drive thru also. The key components that are very well maintained is The Concourse; a subset park located in Kessler. The Colonnade is a century old stone pavilion and outlook with ornate and classic design features; an iconic KC landmark. Across the street is a large majestic fountain that allows fun and frolic for children and a large well maintained playground with large hillside slides. A park that all metro residents owe it to themselves to visit, although it has seen better days.

The shelter is surrounded by a large modern playground with fitness equipment and a zipline. The large park also contains an 18 hole disc golf course, a 3/4 mile walking path encircling a large pond with marshes and a running stream. A great addition to the Northland Parks. A nice course tucked away behind the football field at Missouri Western State University. The front…read morenine are mostly short par threes, with plenty of trees to get in your way and a few fairways crisscrossing one another. So be patient if there are multiple groups out chucking some disc. However, the course really opens up on the back nine, located on the other side of the ravine. Not many technical shots are required on holes 10 through 18, as obstacles are few and far between. But you can really rip your drives and expect a longish upshot to the basket. Not a bad course at all, even though the holes get monotonous. Note that you'll get in between three and four miles of walking before you're done, which ain't a bad workout at all.

As a kid, we got a go-kart and this was the only place to legally (?) take that sucker out, so we had fun riding all around here causing mischief. Since then, it's always had a bit of an odd vibe.. maybe that's more specific to the neighborhood down the hill from it. There used to be this old house that was essentially boarded up and had monkey sculptures all around it. As if that wasn't enough, anyone who slowed down to look at it would have her come out and yell.. horror movie vibes. We also drove down that way one time but the bridge was out, and some drunk people playing in the streets shouted at us and threatened us if we didn't get out. So you can see where I'm not exactly feeling the area here. The park is what it is, a green space that isn't as well kept as other parks in the area, and has the dull white noise of cars whizzing by on I-35 in the background. It's fine for rec league softball and probably great for frisbee golf, but not a park I'd saddle up to with the family for a picnic.
