    Colonade

KC's Historic Cliff drive. You can feel the history surrounding this place. From the mansions on Gladstone blvd to the Colonade built in 1908 this place must have been magnificent in its heyday. But time has not been kind to this area. Hopefully my pictures provide some guidance. There is a previous comment about the neigborhood being "sketch" and i cannot deny that statement. Do not go here after dark and be careful where you leave your car and whats visible. Several homeless and occassional homeless camp. Now that all the bad is out lets talk the good. If you ride bikes you will like. Great, well maintained trails and roadway where no cars are allowed. It's a nice bit of nature in the heart of the city. My hope is that one day the city of KC sees the diamond in the rough that is Cliff drive and makes it THE destination it deserves to be.

Very central location if you're coming from the south or from the north Biggest recommendation is figure out where you're gonna meet ahead of time so you're not driving around going as it near the tennis courts or the front or the rose garden that type of thing because it is about a mile around so there's lots of different areas to park

The open greenspace, the beauty of the paths, or even the rose garden in season makes for a sensational day at the park. There are photo op spots at virtually every corner of the park. If the fountain is going in the rose garden, then it is a popular place for a bushel of pics. The swale in the middle of the park, lined with bald cypress trees, offers many shady, comfortable spots for a picnic or just a rest. String yourself up your own hammock between trees and catch a cozy nap or a comfortable spot to read. Check out the raised placards for a memorial of the Battle of Westport, emphasizing Kansas City's part during the Civil War. Everyone loves a little history, and to do so looking to the west and learning about that conflict 160+ years ago, you can actually see it in your mind's eye. To place that memorial with beautiful green space is a nod to how Kansas City makes the most of its public real estate. Park in any number of lots or even find a spot on one of the side streets. Restrooms are open in nice weather, and there's plenty of spots in which to reserve a pavilion. Outstanding Kansas City landmark!

The fountains were flowing beautifully, adding to the already relaxed vibe. I took my time walking through the gardens, viewing everything from different angles. There's something grounding about being surrounded by flowers, greenery, and the soft sound of water. It is the perfect stop to slow down and unwind after a busy morning and/or afternoon. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet, beautiful spot to clear your head, or just sit and be still.

The Gardens are relaxing, beautiful, exquisitely maintained, and open to all. Tucked in between the front lawn of the Nelson and the grounds of UMKC, this is a botanist's dream. Annuals and perennials alike are meticulously planted and cared for and the grounds are kept immaculate. Relax on a wooden bench near the reflecting pool and listen to the gurgle of the fountain or the splash of the jetted water. Enjoy the birds and the scents of spring or summer, tour the paths, and maybe take a photo or two. It is simply spectacular. Mr. and Mrs. Kauffman were as close to Kansas City royalty as any couple in my lifetime. But they would *never* accept a title like that as their legacy of philanthropy lives on in our fair city. Both are interred here and maybe this is as beautiful of an eternal resting spot as they could have chosen. The Gardens, along with dozens of their other civic donations, live on in their memory. Parking is easy and access is open to all. Just know that pets are not allowed and photo shoots/ops are discouraged as well. You want a few snaps of the foliage or your loved ones? Sure, that can happen, but please don't bring a tripod and changes of clothing thinking this will be the backdrop. The Gardens are special and quiet and meant to be the serene enclave that encapsulates our city.

After running amok with all the other children of KC indoors and having lunch, the rain had let up and we thought it might be good to get some more energy out before heading home. My cousin recommended we stop by this park, which she remembered was close by. To be fair, I had pretty low expectations but I was so pleasantly surprised by this cool spot. First of all, it's not a generic park at all. You've got a giant sea monster made out of concrete and play structure that is made have the look and feel of a pirate ship - it's so fun for pretend play, and such a unique concept for a public park. My kiddo LOVED the sea monster and got such a kick out of it. Aside from that the park is a really good size and you've got a pretty standard playset next to the pirate ship, some swings, and loads of things to climb on, including some play rocks, which I think is a nice touch and sort of compliments the unique nature of this park. 4/5 stars simply because there is some room for improvement - mostly in the restroom area, as they did not look clean/safe, so we used the good ole travel potty for our toddler and made our way home after playing. Overall if you're in the area this is a really fun park for kids and it's worth exploring!

Just a fantastic, peaceful gathering space and I'm so glad the city had the foresight to build this park and not just add more rows of houses. I have many fond memories of moseying down here with my daughter when she was a baby through about age 4 -- perfect playground for that age. Also my buddy Scout, my dog of nine years and I have been here with wind chills of -20, and on summer days in the 100's. There are so many friendly people and we sort of band together with our pups on the coldest days. We found community here with an organic, casual dog meet up group.. I still miss it, my new neighborhood doesn't have the same energy. You'll find it packed on snow days with sledders dominating the perfect sledding hill. Those first real warm spring days give way to people playing baseball, throwing frisbees and cooking out. My only knocks are that there needs to be better crosswalks around here. Cars really fly through this area, unfortunately, and the city could take some better precautions. Additionally there's no bathroom. Funny how when I lived a five minute walk from here I didn't mind, but now when we visit and there's nowhere to go, it's definitely more noticeable. Anywho, it's a true gem for this dense neighborhood.

More than enough space for a small kids playground, a covered picnic area complete with an outdoor grill and a backstop and infield if you want to play softball... all surrounded by a nice little path for those who want a little exercise. You'll find all kinds of people out here. Some are exercising, some are playing with their kids and / or pets and others are just setting up camp and reading a book. It's a great place to kind of lean back, relax and let life come to you.
