So pulled up into the car park, two degrees outside and 'are we human or are we dancer' coming out of the radio as I turned off the engine. First duty was into a nearby supermarket for a soft white bread pan. When it's fish n chips it has to be tea, bread and lots of butter. A good sprinkling of salt on the fish n chips too. Carbs, animal fats and hardly a healthy calorie in sight. So into the chip shop to a friendly welcome from a man, certainly didn't look like Paula but it's a funny old world so I thought better than to ask. Two fish and chips please (or as we used to say: two fish suppers) £11.60 was required. I checked it was cod and he almost seemed taken aback at my question - he said, 'of course'. I waited a bit pleased that the food was being cooked to order. The portions of cod were huge, with fresh, white chunky and skinless meat. If you aren't sure how fresh cod tastes try it here as it's very fresh. I thought each chip portion was a tad mean but once home and in the plate it was generous enough. The food is cooked in beef dripping. There is no substitute good enough, groundnut, peanut, rapeseed, olive, corn oils none come close. The batter was towards thin and I like that, and to be fair the food sat in a take out bag until I got home and put out the plates and do on. Despite this the food was excellent, perfectly good food and still quite warm. A chip buttie was a must. Now I've eaten some of the finest foods on earth but I gotta tell ya the taste of a white soft pan bread chip buttie with a bit of salt and a generous slap of butter is wonderful made all the better with hot tea. The glowing reviews are right, it's a great place. The next time I want very good fish & chips I know where to go. Maybe next time I'll sit in and have it at its very best. Who knows now that oil prices have fallen the prices here should drop too.

Likewise the mashed potatoes and fries too are mass produced in factories also frozen and transported to the freezers in this chain. So prep is defrosting, microwaving, deep frying and oven heating. I find their peri peri sauces - also mass produced in factories - acrid. I find them unpleasant to eat and to smell - they pinch my nose. The only attraction with fast food, junk food, is that the skinny battery chickens when defrosted are flame singed and grilled with flaccid skin on but that's about it. Cheap crap food and priced at double what it should be. It's not for me. I find the staff friendly but really interaction is limited as customers get their own drinks, get their own sauces so it's all rather unappealing and not at all appetising.

Im sure no one can blame me. When you walk into this little restaurant, you are walking up to a counter and ordering your dinner. They have 14 varieties of chips, priced from £2.20 (small chips)up to £4.60 (taco chips with bolognese and cheese). There are four varieties of fish (i got the fresh battered haddock at £3.60) and fries and gravy for £3.40). The fish and chips were delicious. The gravy was bland (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). The serving was extremely generous. This isnt the best fish and chips I ever had, but I would put it easily in the top 3.

I asked if they took debit card but unfortunately they didn't. The chap working said I could place my order and go to the ATM further up the road and by the time I got back my food would be ready. He wasn't wrong because I came back to the shop just in time to answer the all important question, 'Do you want salt and vinegar?' The food itself was good, although not mind blowing. There's plenty of competition in this area for fish and chips so Georgia's always had a lot to live up to. I got a 'Cod Supper' - I got loads of chips (too many) but the fish portion wasn't huge although it was fried to perfection. The standard is always good if you just want a quick bite to eat. Everything is always well cooked and things are served fast, which are the main things you are looking for in a fast food outlet. Where it has the edge on takeaways and chip shops is its small but perfectly formed deserts range, as it has a lot of keenly priced ice cream sundaes and muffins that are very nice for the minimal price! My best Supermac's memory thought is as part of the Des Bishop Work Experience that was on RTE a few years ago.
