"An appeltaart a day keeps the doctor away."…read more This is just irrefutable science (as confirmed by the medical research that I'm currently conducting). Whether you agree with this form of self-medicating or not, if you've ever sampled Dutch apple pie I'm feeling pretty confident that you'll agree that this stuff is amazing! So densely packed with cinnamon apples, this is probably the tallest slice of pie that I've ever encountered. Prepared with the tandem ingredients of cinnamon and brown sugar, I wondered if the taste would be dominated by sweetness. However, they are added in measured proportions so that each bite is harmonious and flavorful. The crumble top adds a wonderful texture, and when supplemented by a generous dollop of whipped cream, this all comes together to serve as a delicious companion to any balanced meal. My only lingering question is: I wonder if I can get my doctor to write me a daily prescription for this stuff? And that's...Henry's Take. #appeltaart

My girl said it tasted more like goat or deer than veal (could have been free roaming grass fed). But she did enjoy it. "It's very very good. Maybe the item title is translated wrong". My Sole was cooked pretty good. A little mushy and I picked up quite a few bones in the first few bites. I did however enjoy it. The veggies were a dry and overlook. No ifs ands or buts about that. The roasted potatoes were also a little over cooked and mushy. I would come again to try other menu items. I do have concerns about the drinks policy. Now of course I am as they say a simple stupid American, but when asking for water with ice, one would expect more than 1 cube per glass. So as far as the drinks, this place gets a flat 1 star. The food gets 3.5 Stars.

We went looking for a Pancake House in Haarlem first but with no luck. Then we took off heading to the shore and as we were driving we found this lovely place! There's plenty of parking available. We found a place to sit on the terrace. It took some time til someone came to take our order. We then got the bread as appetizer cos we were so hungry and a couple of pancakes. Good thing we got the bread. The staff was friendly but they were understaffed and we had to wait quite a bit. The food was good. Huge pancakes. Very filling. I would come back any day.

We had a child with us, so they put us upstairs near the children's play area which was nice. However, it was very dark up there and, even with the lights turned on and bright windows, it felt dim. Because we were seated upstairs, service was pretty lacking and we felt forgotten. The food itself was ok. The seafood platter was very appetizing and had a nice variety of options. However, our clam pasta was so lukewarm, bland, and watery, it felt like an insult to the clams and Italian food in general. The bread was also cold, but the butter was nice. Overall, we had a nice time because we were with good company, but IJ Kantine didn't impress.

So when in Amsterdam, of course I had to stop by and grab a drink and of course I needed to buy my obligatory branded tumblers and mugs. This won't be my typical review because my disappointment in this place was at an all-time high. I will say, that when a company has a reputation, as customers we expect to see that same quality regardless of the location. I'm here to tell you that the way things operate in Europe and other countries Does not necessarily match what we may enjoy in the United States. The customer service at this location absolutely sucks. The staff is incredibly rude, and they really don't care if you purchase something or not. I truly have never seen anything like this. The upside is that they definitely have a great variety of merchandise, and when it comes to actual food products, they have an entire case, yes, an entire case of desserts that we never see here in the United States. On top of that, they also have a variety of food items. It's almost like a mini restaurant. So not like what we have here. The other offering that I thought was rather cool and Starbucks in the United States really needs to jump on this is that they have a $10 deal. Yes, for $10 you can have a sandwich, a drink, and a dessert. Completely unheard in the United States. I can't tell you if the food taste great because I only purchased a couple of drinks, but visually things look pretty tasty. If you go, go with caution. If you're into purchasing any other merchandise, this is a great location to do it at.
