Serious facility or policy complaints. * Pests and Property Damage: Some long-term renters have reported severe rodent infestations, including chewed boxes, ruined clothing, and damaged paperwork, alongside slow response times from management regarding property damage claims. * Strict Fees and Policies: Complaints highlight aggressive fee enforcement, such as steep charges ($200+) for leaving trash behind or late departures ($250), combined with restricted access to trash disposal bins. * Steep Ramps and Maintenance: Customers note that older sections of certain local facilities feature rundown infrastructure, steep inclines, and locked waste receptacles. Locked or non-existent trash bins, forcing renters to haul garbage across steep inclines. * Steep Rate Hikes: Sudden and significant monthly rent increases after initial promotional periods or long-term rentals have frustrated departing customers. I WILL SUBMIT TO LIE DETECTOR TEST PAID FOR BY OTAY MESA SELF STORAGE. In August 2026, your employee identified as William intentionally and willfully exposed his penis to me. This incident occurred in the building interior hallway directly near my rented storage space and repeatedly said there are no cameras inside the building, only outside the building. Under California law, a business owes a strict duty of care to ensure its premises are safe, secure, and free from hazardous behavior or criminal conduct by its staff. An employee engaging in lewd or criminal acts while on duty constitutes an extreme breach of workplace safety, customer protection, and liability protocols. This conduct violates California Penal Code § 314 PC. Immediate Investigation: Conduct a full internal investigation into the actions of your worker, William, regarding his behavior on the clock. 2. Footage Preservation: Review and preserve all security camera footage from the hallways, entryways, and exits encompassing the dates of August 2026 to ensure evidence is locked down for law enforcement review. 3. Corporate Response: Provide a written statement detailing the corrective actions your facility is taking regarding this individual to guarantee customer safety moving forward. Please note that this matter is being escalated to the appropriate authorities for criminal investigation. I expect a written confirmation of receipt of this notice and an update on your security protocols within five (5) business days. Ever heard the saying better late than never?…read more I am an ex long time customer that left on good terms. Now that I am Yelping a lot I wanted to give my overall review about my time with Otay Self storage. i will give the pros and cons and also some tips :) Hopefully the names are accurate its been a while. I was a customer for about 7-8 years. I signed my first lease when this was half the size and the 2nd half was all dirt. The manager at the time I think her name was Lydia was very nice and half the reason why i went with this location. The other half of my decision was location. If your looking for the closest storage unit near the border, this is it. You can walk to here in a good 10-15 mins fromn the border. I had a large prime storage unit right in front. I kept my SUV and several belongings in there. Since Lydia, I believe the next manager was Luis? and then Humberto. They were also very nice and i was sad to see Luis go, he was awesome. Here are the Pro's about this place - Extremely secure, never had anything stolen nor heard of anything being taken from this lot. They have several camera and overnight roaming security. It's so secure that if a cat gets in, it can set off the sensors. I've been there in the early am before they opened when security would come by and do a check for motion sensors. Both times it was a cat running around :) See my pic of one of the cat burglars :) Location - everyone says location is key -it is located in a corner sort of (It used to be a closed off road years ago, but since have opened it up to traffic. It is very close to the border. Staff - Turnover wasn't a big issue when I was there, they had mostly the same staff with just a few manager changes. All extremely friendly, even to the point when they were ready to close, I would call them from the freeway and they would stay open a few extra mins for me. Units - the units themselves were in great shape. Early arrival- Most employees were early arrivals in the morning, that helps people that need to go to work on time. Giveaways -people are always giving free stuff away to each other. I had several storage neighbors that gave me excess stuff they weren't using and also when they are moving out. I returned the favor and gave away furniture and some electronics when I moved out. Cons: Very few: Rodents, sorry its Otay and there are lots of open fields out here. That's a fact of life and nature, nothing Otay Storage has done wrong. The units themselves can get dusty and dirty over time, please keep that in mind when storing valuables. Cars can sometimes block your unit, it can be a pain to find them and tell them to move. Especially when you under time restraints. This applies to outdoor units. They had free Wi-Fi then it got abused so they took it away. Not sure if it's back on again. Tips: Get a ground level unit, it can get extremely hot in these units during the summer and the last thing you want to do is go with an upstairs storage unit. Buy covers for your mattress and valuables, it can get dusty and should keep the little rodents out. Overall treat the employees with respect and that is what you will get right back. I loved my time here and I was sad to go. if I ever need a unit again you got my business!

I called in on the same day to learn more and the person on the other end patiently and kindly explained everything to me. Once I got there, even though it was in the last hour of open hours, the staff member helped me with all the paperwork and it was a quick process. I initially got a 5x5 for the first couple months but had to move up a size because i didn't realize how much more stuff I actually needed to store while being out of state. The transition was easy again aside from the actual moving. Luckily they offer carts for people to use, and I do wish they had more. Really puts things into perspective when you see all your stuff tetris-ed in a storage unit. I feel like I had a pretty good deal. I chose this location because it was close but it also had the best deal. I'm very pleased with my experience. Especially since I learned from my cousins experience what poor quality customer service looks like... yikes.
