But I never was able to get the signal their website and store said was available, No doubt the bosses ended up just fine. The actual workers, probably not so much. On the good side.. at least you won't have to worry about how fast your wireless router is. That's because there's no way you'll ever get speeds near it's limit. It is much cheaper than cable companies, but it is ridiculously slow. sometimes I have to wait 10 seconds just to load craigslist or google. Don't even try to stream any sort of media. I've called customer service twice and after waiting for ten minutes they tell me to restart my whole setup and see if that works and call back if it doesn't. Sometimes it does work (maybe once out of 5) but really I shouldn't have to do that 5 times to get a decent connection. my old connection through cable was at least 10 times faster. even though it cost $30 more a month I'm going back. I have their home internet setup, not the mobile setup. there really is no excuse for connections this slow. I've lived in 2 locations with this setup and both have been super slow so it's not like I'm just in a "dead spot". read more

One word: SLOW! This internet has got to be the worst I've ever had. Even dial-up would seem more consistent. Clear however, seems to have two speeds. Slow and slower. If you're thinking about doing anything with this service other than a simple check of your email, forget it. And even then, be patient. Downloading computer updates, takes forever. Streaming any sort of media, forget it. This internet sucks. Several months later I moved into a different home where I couldn't get a signal at all. Nothing. Called to cancel. They now tell me it's $120 to cancel because I'm breaking my 2 year contract. Wow, apparently when I was told "no cancellation fee" I missed the fine print: "unless we change our mind". Oh, and there was also a $40 restocking fee for the modem. So unless you want to be tied down to an internet service that only kind of works once in a while for TWO YEARS of your life, then heed my advice. Do not use them!!! This has been the worst experience I have ever received and I never got a chance to even use the product. I bought the product from a store paid cash for it at the end of Jan 2012 and then for some reason it would not work on my laptop so I had to return the product however they have it setup to where I cannot return it at the store I have to call customer service to get a UPS shipping label. The sales clerk (who was extremely helpful and a nice kid) helped me get a UPS label so I can return it. I never received the UPS label so I had the following day and informed that the request had never been inputted so I had to wait another 24hrs to receive the label. Once Clear received the product for whatever reason they had to confirm my mailing address not once, not twice but 3 times. On the 3rd time I confirmed the address which was on 02/16/12 I was told that the check will be sent off the following week. I called 11 days later to find out about the check and I was informed that I need to wait another 2 weeks to receive the check. I have been waiting for a month now for my money. Why they cannot do refunds at the store is beyond me and why they cannot put the money on the card is ridiculous! It should not take 30 days + to get a refund back. I am on a hillside in SE Portland, in line of sight of their tower and get 5 bars on my device, and have new hardware with the latest software and maxed RAM. And I am not a big consumer of online music, games or video. I have been with CLEAR for over a year, and in the beginning the speeds were better than average - despite the spotty connections and random failures. The hiccups were mitigated by speeds much as 7Mb/sec down, and 1.5 uploading. You can go to websites in your browser to verify your connection speed - I like speedtest.net. This semi-acceptable state has deteriorated over the course of the year to an average now of 0.7 Mb/sec down, and today, while I write this, I've experienced 14k/second upload times. Using the web is almost impossible. I had better times with my old 56 kbps modem, and am infuriated. The very nice, but clearly helpless call center helper in the Phillipines couldn't do anything but tell me to restart everything and maybe chip in for an extra $5/mo (re-upping my contract) with no promised gains beyond the possibility of improvement. She freely admitted that the more you use the service, the more the algorhythms throttle back on your access in some attempt to average us all out. So when my kids are home on spring break and want to get on youtube, I can expect a graphic attachment to my emails to take MINUTES to upload. I cannot run even a modest little home-based business under these terms, and I'm paying for their "premium" package. It seems like such a sham that we're being led towards greater and greater promises of online media access when the pipe is becoming a mere drip. I would never recommend this product or company. I've struggled with the limitations of DSL over the years and am actually sentimental for those connection speeds now. read more

Don't even think about changing to Clear. Big fat liars. I signed up with Clear in May of 2009, and was pretty happy with their service most of the time. For a while it seemed like my modem was continually recycling, but I stuck with it, and it seemed to improve a lot when I got a new modem. Just recently, I started using the internet more for watching Netflix and AppleTV. Apparently, that is a big No-No with Clear. My download speeds have been appallingly slow the last couple of days - in the realm of .15 to .25 Mbps. After messing around with my equipment for two days (resetting router, resetting modem, resetting computers etc). Finally, I called Clear tech support. The first tech support guy suggested my issue was due to a virus on my computer. Then he tried to convince me that .11 Mbps is faster than .3 Mbps. Hmmmm....seems basic math is not a requirement for their tech support staff. I asked to speak to a supervisor after that (no point in continuing a conversation with an idiot). The supervisor told me that my account had been identified as a heavy usage account, and to be fair to all of their subscribers, Clear had throttled my speed (not the word he used - I believe he said "limited"). It seems that the "unlimited data usage" that is so well advertised and touted when you sign up for this service is only available at speeds that are slower than using a dial-up modem. So, in summary, AVOID! Clear does NOT provide unlimited usage at broadband speeds. I feel like an idiot for shelling out the extra money for the "faster" of their home internet options. read more

Great concept being poorly implemented. I've had Clear now for about two years. I really like the ability to take my internet with me when I go to another city. However, I am absolutely sick of the inconsistent service I get. When I first got Clear, I had connectivity issues, and then it finally got better after many, many calls to their customer service. Often my problems happened after their customer service was closed so I had to wait until the next day to fix my issue.. I am again experiencing problems. Clear indicates I have great connectivity when in fact I can't even get to Google. I have had so many problems with the connectivity, I have the customer service number memorized. Because I'm a student and rely on my internet connection for school, I am going to have to go back to either a wire or satellite system. I would not recommend Clear until they straighten out their problem. read more

As you can see, my last review of Clear Internet was more than two months ago and I still haven't received my refund. This is despite the fact that I received an email more than a month ago saying I had met their refund requirements and would receive a CHECK within 14 days. When no refund arrived, I called Clear again and was told my refund would be processed and I would receive a CHECK within 14 days. Now ,14 days has more than passed and this morning I get a call from Clear with a foreign "customer service" rep who tells me that they have no record of any transaction with Clear and he again takes all of the information and tells me I will get a VISA CARD refund within 30 days. Worst. ISP. Ever. I ordered their hotspot modem online-- to get the special cheaper price. They said their home service wasn't available in my area, but their mobile was. The key thing is that they said there was SERVICE in my area. Nightmare #1: I get the modem in the mail, and there's supposed to be a wall-plug charger. Problem was, the charger looked like it would only charge up devices in Asia (strange, two-prong thing; not European either). So I call their customer service, and find out that they are not sending the right part. After informing them that this is dishonest, they apologize and still say they aren't sending the right part and I'll have to buy the right one from my local store. Being the nerd I am, I realize I have a cord that'll plug the modem into my computer and charge it that way. So, the device charges up. Then it starts scanning, but won't connect to the wimax network... Nightmare #2: After making about 9 calls to customer service (and having their network drop my call right in the pivotal moments), I finally get to someone who tells me that I don't have service coverage in my area. My apartment is less than half a mile from the service area. It's a scam. Even their website has incorrect information, leading customers to fork out cash and not get service. Then their "#1-rated customer service" does all that they can to frustrate the living hell out of you when you try to figure out what's going on. Or even to cancel. Lies. Bad service. No service. Outright scam. When you think of Clear, think of these things, and run the other way. read more

At the best I get 12 mpbs download speads and am happy with clear, but recently things have been changing. We too are having issues with Clear's download speed. Since adding a roku to our home network our usage has doubled to between 40 and 50 gb per month, well under the 250 gb limits other internet providers use before restricting bandwidth. However my speeds vary from 12 mbps to .6 mbps. I am in a high rise apartment close to a tower. I consistently have 5 bars connection and have never had a problem with connections. We also have a usb clear modem for traveling. It doesn't have any slow down issues at our location. The only thing that makes sense is throttling, a restriction of our download speed by clear. The amazing thing is that I called clear to ask them this question last night. I spent almost one half hour with the tech on the phone and he was fairly clueless. He started off by saying, that no, clear wouldn't cap my speed. He kept running me through troubleshooting tests that I had already done myself. When I asked to talk to a supervisor to check my file on whether or not they had capped my speed, he got defensive and referred my to the acceptable us policy https://www.clear.com/legal/aup, which I was already aware of. He did say that I was probably being capped and finally said he would transfer me to a supervisor. He then came back and said the supervisor wasn't available. I asked to talk to any supervisor and he took a couple of minutes to check. He came back and said there was someone available and he was transferring me. I was transferred to being on hold. After almost a half-hour of being on hold I was disconnected. This is by far the worst customer service I have experienced with any company in recent years... and yes I am still being capped today. As much as I dislike comcast and their practice of consistent price increases, they are looking more attractive as an alternative. Clear I have loved you in the past, but this is ridiculous. I am almost ready to start posting this warning on all my favorite blogs, facebook, and who knows where else. I'm not really angry... just very disappointed and frustrated. The Clear modem worked for less than a year for the wifi connection. The first fellow I chatted with gave me the correct info to correct the problem. I followed the instructions and it didn't work. Person 2 of Clear Chat tried the same things and when I kept asking why would I repeat what doesn't work, the chat tech disconnected. Wanting my wireless to work, I tried another chat - hum,,,not surprising the same result. The person disconnected me from the chat. Well - call me a sucker I tried a third time and tryied to show them I had already been through resetting the modem 8 times; I cut and pasted my previous chat. Didn't work. Tried to do all the same solutions that now hadn't worked with 3 previous techs. Being a smart enough woman I decided to speak to someone. Well over an hour on the phone and I could return it at my cost and they would send a new modem because after all of the time I had spent trying to go through the paces they determined the modem was faulty. Mind you this is now 3 hours later. It didn't take me that long to figure it out and I am not a tech person. I figured I would return the modem to one of the stores. Ended up at Lloyd Center. The folks at the Lloyd Center kiosk were the best part of dealing with this company today (almost). At first they told me they did not have any modems. (Kiosk trying to get first time business and don't have any modem?) Also got told that many times a business such as theirs is more interested in reeling you in and then doesn't care so much about continued service after all it's going to cost a lot to leave the service before the contract is up. So one of these fellows kindly spent a long time trying to get me a modem. In the end, he pulled one out from under the counter and gave it to me. I was told I would not have to pay for the shipping that the company would be emailing me a shipping label. Well, why did I believe them. I just found an email from them charging me for the shipping. So now I will start round 2 of fighting with Clear. read more

We signed up for Clear 2 years ago, and liked the price that was being offered. We were paying too much for Comcast, and just needed something less expensive. At first, the Internet seemed great. We had just bought a laptop, and enjoyed being able to use it through out our home. However, very quickly the quality of service speeds declined, and we were constantly on the phone with tech support trying to figure out why our internet started to suck. We moved the modem and router, had luck for a couple days, but then our service would go out for a week. Mind you, this is with us still on the phone with tech support, resetting the modem, etc., Whatever we were instructed to do... And this pattern lasted for 2 years. Unfortunately we signed the contract. Most recently while on the phone with support, the person on the phone argued that we needed to move the modem closer to a window, because a service tower was across the street and there shouldn't be any connectivity problems. When I explained that if it got any closer it would be outside, the person didn't seem to understand what i was trying to explain. Never once were we offered a different modem to see if there was a problem with it. Because we were a month past our contract, i decided that i wanted to cancel the service. It was doing nothing but causing problems. When i called and cancelled, the rep asked if there was anyone i would be willing to refer their services to. All i could do was laugh at her, and ask her why on earth i would do that when i had the worst service, technically and with reps? She told me that i needed to send the equipment back, otherwise i would be charged for the equipment in 30 days. She said she would email me a ups label, but i instead requested one to show up through the postal service as i don't always have access to a printer, and she agreed. That label never showed up, so i went into my email to print that one instead, however it had been reassigned and used. When i called again to have them resend a label, that email had a broken link to the label, so there was no way to retrieve it. I tried to call a third time, and the recording said the department was closed, even though i was calling during posted open hours. I ended up on their chat with someone, and when i asked them to try emailing me another label, they refused, indicating that they would have one sent through the postal service, and then disconnected the chat. They would not guarantee that they would not charge my account for the equipment, and I have yet to receive a shipping label. My only solution will be to cancel my debit card and get a new one, so they will have no access to my account. I definitely do not recommend this company. They have proven to me over the last two years that they do not care if they have poor business practices... Should they attempt to charge my account, i will be seeking help from the attorney general of Oregon and involve the better business bureau. Good luck to clear costumers! read more

This Internet is terrible and their customer service people have foreign accents that make them hard to understand at times at least that is how all of the people I spoke with were like. This makes me think they are outsourcing their customer service which I am not a big fan of. Also they told me that I would get good speeds according to their map and what customer service told me but my actual speeds were a little over 1 Mbps. The worst internet ever. I know that no service provider is perfect, but I'd pay double before I'd use clear again. Terrible coverage, slow speeds, CANNOT STREAM VIDEOS/MUSIC without multiple reloads, they acknowledged to me that their equipment was outdated but they couldn't replace it cuz I am on contract with the old equip whether it works or not. Many of the customer service reps on the phone & in store were EXTREMELY rude. We also found out that the online/phone service department is based overseas and is run separately from the in-store system, which has resulted in much miscommunication & us going back & forth btwn the store & phone reps during outages and equip crashes all while getting different & often incorrect info from everyone. We have decided to pay the fee to break the contract rather than stick with them, thats how unhappy we are. Buyer beware, not worth it, now called "un-Clear" in my book! read more

I never knew what a dropped call was until I went with Clear. The service was bad, but I kept it for four years because everything else was too expensive. My boss turned me onto a phone service called Ooma. I looked it up on the internet, and seeing the good reviews, I went for it. Folks, this is the answer to the failing service that Clear gives. Here's the best deal: Use CenturyLink or Comcast for your high speed internet (only, with no phone). This gives me an internet service for $30 a month (CenturyLink). Then, with Ooma, you are only paying for the tax on the phone, after you buy the little black box (Ooma Tele). The best deal on the tele is from Amazon, for $118.11. I now greatly regret that I didn't find this answer sooner. I am paying far less for internet and phone than I did with Clear, and the service is great. It is like having my old land line again with the phone (which basically it is!). Hint: When you order your Ooma device, also order from Amazon the pack of four DSL filters for ~$20. It turns out that you do need these filters if you plug your Ooma phone output into your phone line system. Otherwise, you will get a static noise along with your phone signal. With the filters, the signal is great at every phone jack in my house. Clear refused to cancel my service on request, and is forcing me to go to the end of the monthly pay cycle. Clear Internet customer service is horrible. Just crossed them off my list of companies to deal with. I was about to sign up for service. I like the concept. Fortunately, my card had a fraud alert on it and the charge did not go through. The gal said she would call me back at 10 the next day to give me time to clear the fraud alert. She did not call. When I called, the loop was telling me I had less than 1 minute to wait, that I was next in line, that there was high call volumes.... 16 minutes later I got a live person and I told him about my experience so far. He laughed at first, then proceeded to counteract my statements. When I told him to accept the feedback and not argue, he stated " I needed to find out what arguing was" I guess cause I was not yelling and carrying on, it was not arguing??? The company really needs to check into customer service. Look at what is being said online and do something about it. I was still a potential customer and was already being exposed to the poor customer service. I Will wait until another company with a wireless Internet service comes along. read more

I have two words to describe Clear Wireless - Totally Unscrupulous! I had paperwork that promised me 100% refund within 14 days if I was unsatisfied with their service. They promise you a two digit speed, and then when you accept their terms it states that minimum speed is 4 mbps. My download speed was 2 mbps so I immediately cancelled and promptly returned the equipment for a refund and was promised a full refund in 24 hours. I called about a week after they received the equipment to check on my refund and was told that they were deducting $8.63 for usage and wouldn't honor the paperwork I had that indicated 100% refund. My usage consisted of about 10 minutes for two speed tests. At that rate can you imagine what their overage charges would be? Also they don't have an opt-out option for marketing and you have to agree that they can contact you for marketing purposes even if you're on the do not call list. I was leery when signing up for the service and am sorry now that I didn't go with my gut instinct. Don't use this company or you will, without a doubt, be sorry down the line. read more
