Clear is the WORST internet service provider on the market, and ironically they are one of the most expensive. I tried them for about a year until I simply could not take it anymore.
Overall the service speed for downloading was slow and often had delays. But lately my signal strength dropped to less than 1 MBPS and stayed that way for over 24 hours (I am not exaggerating)! It was so slow I could not even use Netflix! I spent hours on the phone with their tech support, and even spoke to supervisors (inept people who CALLED themselves supervisors). I wasted a few hours getting the runaround. Doing things like trying to move the modem to a different room in the house to get a better signal (modems don't look that great on window sills and on top of refrigerators). When the service is so shaky that you have to move the modem around like an old fashioned TV antennae, then its time to run away.
They could never identify the problem, and refused to issue a credit. Even after admitting that my download speeds were so low that there was obviously some kind of problem on their end, they could never figure it out or take any responsibility for it . Instead I got numerous patronizing apologies that sounded like they were reading from a script on a computer screen somewhere over in India. A few different tech reps suggested that I simply wait it out, in case the towers got less busy, as if I'm supposed to wait in line to use the internet!!! That's the best recommendation they could offer. PATHETIC.
Think about it this way, oh wise consumers, Clear uses 4G to broadcast. Ever lost a cell phone call due to weather, an airplane, or any number of other odd reasons? Ever been somewhere that the service simply could not reach? That's Clear. No matter where you live, your service will be marginal at best. Don't believe their coverage map on their website. These are con artists selling you internet service that piggybacks on a very poor cell phone signal, and then charges a ridiculous price for it. Don't waste your time or money. For this level of service they should be charging dial-up prices.
Go with a cable, satellite, or a fiber optic provider, which is more reliable technology, and apparently better customer service, as well. I regret the day I chose Clear. After repeatedly getting the runaround, I had no choice but to switch providers. Unfortunately, since they could never fix their own problem, I was stuck without internet for 1 week until the cable company was able to come out and run a hard line with high speed internet access. The Tech support for Clear was so bad I simply gave up. Even the supervisors are worthless. They can literally do nothing for you except offer excuses and canned apologies.
I wasted hours being patronized by a bunch of absolute idiots on Clear Tech support and never got my service back to a usable speed level. I'm so furious that, as you see, I have made it my mission to post this rating all over the internet.
By the way, in my area, Clear's cable high speed internet competitor is about $10 per month cheaper. Wish I had switched sooner.
