Some of the group facilitators were very well-liked and effective and engaging while others brought negative emotions and lack of excitement from the very reading of the group agenda in the morning. After sending pictures of the front and back of my insurance card, I was assured that my insurance would cover my stay. HCBTS sent an Uber to pick me up and brought me to Newport Beach to the, "Platinum Sands House," which had potential but was badly neglected. The carpet from the living room up the stairs and at the top was badly stained, the kitchen was badly outdated, the bathtub in my room had no shower head on the end of the pipe, the garage door didn't lock, and two of us had our e-bikes stolen, the front fence was embarrassing with missing pickets as the house is at the corner of 32nd and Balboa, a very heavy traffic area and traffic light where people stop and observe. My bed sheets and pillow cases had blood stains, and I have pictures of it all. This was very clearly just a place to house insurance paychecks while they go to groups every day at another building. There was no money put into the house to make it the least bit nice in a very long time. Very substandard for private insurance rehab housing, two blocks away from the beach, or not. But the kicker? After being at Hotel California by the Sea for three weeks, I was called into an office by the head of the group facilitators and told that my insurance company had called and said that this facility was out of network and that I was not covered to be there. I was told to vacate the premises in 24 hours. I was horrified because I was woefully unprepared to leave, had no money to get a plane ticket across the country where I was from and had nowhere to stay. I was told, "We don't want to, "Street you," (But, unfortunately, you have to go). I was looking at being in a shelter with homeless people or being on the streets of California 2700 miles away from home. This was the most unprofessional thing I've ever experienced in my life, and it was so profound because they were dealing with a human life-my life. It was clear at that moment that the movie Body Brokers was very real and the recovery industry is just a business. There are certainly people in the industry who genuinely care, but they have no choice but to work for cutthroat monsters who are millionaires and have a bottom line that must be met with bodies in beds on a constant rotation. Fresh meat is the key, and relapse is almost congratulated. In my three weeks there, there was one fentanyl overdose and two relapses in one of the houses. Certain clients are allowed to overstay their needed treatment time as long as there isn't a new patient needing a bed at a higher level of care which, of course, brings in more money per day or, per, "Unit," which is how insurance companies dole out authorizations. If you're thinking about rehab, I really don't have any advice because they all play the same games and all use the same tired lines to get you there such as, "We got you.. Don't worry.." The people who are incharge of getting admissions to agree to come are very well trained and coached in the proper lines to use to disarm any hesitation you may have and allay any fears or doubts you may have. This was only my second rehab, and I saw enough in this time to realize very clearly what goes on after spending time on the phone with my insurance company and hearing the cold tone used by the administrator in delivering the devastating news that the entire thing was a mistake and I was on the losing end of it. She said they weren't happy about, "Having to eat the cost of my entire stay," and to that I say GOOD! These rehabs have entire departments to deal with verifying insurance, yet they badly botched my approval for care and didn't catch it until I had been there three weeks and was just beginning to get the root of my issue. Rehab is about money, and you have to be your own advocate because nobody at these facilities is looking out for you. Even if they are a kind-hearted person and really want to help you out, their hands are tied by the almighty dollar and the people who demand a fresh crop of bodies in beds constantly to keep the money flowing. And it was told to us repeatedly by case workers that the length of your stay is completely dependent upon how creative the case workers are in their weekly assessments of your progress and condition. If they like you, they'll work their magic. If you demand anything of them or give any kind of push back, they'll make sure your stay is short. Watch Body Brokers, and you'll understand. It's definitely one of those experiences where hard-working people can start to think, "Dang, I'm in the wrong racket... I need to get in on this grift."

PSR was so incredibly generous and allowed me to extend my stay in order to recover. Mike E. and Mike G. were absolutely amazing, they took such great care of me. The atmosphere is so peaceful which definitely aids to building a new foundation for recovery. The staff and owners are real, down to earth and genuinely care for the clients. I will have 90 days sober in 5 days and I would not be here without the grace, generosity, and care from PSR those first 2 weeks. I am forever grateful.

Beginnings Treatment Center was my first experience in any type of treatment. Early on I felt completely overwhelmed, I was naive and unaware of the complexity of this disease and the amount of work it would require of me; but the staff at Beginnings tactfully presented the steps of recovery in a way that was encouraging, positive and manageable. The staff was not only very supportive and knowledgable but many were former addicts that could relate to my past and what I was currently experiencing. I found this to be extremely beneficial. I felt at ease when sharing my situation with the Beginnings Treatment staff. My questions or concerns were always met with actionable and genuine responses based on actually experiences--- no theories or speculation involved here. After completing my second week in treatment I truly felt like I was part of a family with both staff and clients. I began to notice improvement, both mentally and physically. I no longer felt confused or overwhelmed --- experiencing the feeling of true progress gave me hope and motivation to take all I could from Beginnings Treatment. I will be 90 days sober next week (more time in over 20 years!) and although I know there is still work to be done, the experience and knowledge I gained at Beginnings Treatment helped me build a foundation that is invaluable for my future growth. Their…read moreemployee who picked me up from the airport was (allegedly) hitting a dab pen and took me to what I was told over the phone would be a "thorough intake process" was really a breathalyzer and UA. The person doing my "intake" asked me which program I was here for - I told him nobody told me and shouldn't he know?? The admissions person I spoke with over the phone said I would have "chef made meals". I was dropped off at a Vons with a $75 gift card to buy groceries for the week. As someone with a dual diagnosis, this was incredibly misleading and resulted in me not eating for 24 hours. The same admissions person said "the home i would be in would have shared rooms, but plenty of bathrooms". I arrived to the house which had 1 bathroom shared among 7 women. Sadly my time here only lasted 18 hours due to the fact that what was described to me over the phone was the exact opposite of what i walked into. Don't waste your time here. "House manager" or any WWR employee was not at the home I was assigned to when I arrived. It was 4 hours later that she showed up and was using her vape as a pointer while showing me the house rules. Not a single person here was professional or helpful - they just want your money. Bedspread on my bed was also COVERED in stains upon my arrival.
