That doctor took measurements and photos, did an extremely thorough examination, discussed in depth the surgery itself and what techniques would be used depending on findings, etc. He asked many questions to understand what my wife wanted and was very clear that recovery could take weeks. At Main Line the doctor took no measurements, did a cursory examination, and barely talked compared to our first consult. The before and after photos of past surgeries did not impress my wife. The consult felt rushed and impersonal. Then when left with the assistant to discuss costs, we were given different information on recovery than the doctor told us (bearing in mind that his recovery estimate seemed optimistic already). Suddenly, recovery time was as little as 2 days - which seems to be completely contrary to readily available information let alone logic. It seemed to me that the staff is trying hard to sell you and will talk in circles to do so. A breast reduction is not minor surgery, and to be told that my wife should be fine to wrangle our rambunctious 4 year old on her own by day 3 seemed incredibly irresponsible. She the followed up with nonsense about what type of vacation we can take the soonest after surgery (not a concern we raised) and 5 minutes needlessly rehashing that the cost is different depending on which surgery center we used. That they seemed so disinterested in providing details on the actual surgery and recovery, yet spent so much effort on relative nonsense, only served to further put us off. The cost was as expected. The sales tactics were not, and in my opinion it is quite a danger sign if an office tries to sell you on surgery likes it's a time share. And while this is subjective, the assistant in in our opinion needs to step away from the filler - the subjective judgment of beauty applied there was not what my wife was looking for with her surgery. This was consult 2 of 3 in my wife's search for the right surgeon. They can't all be winners ;)

I reached out to this office to schedule a consultation. I was asked to send pictures and to…read morespecify what I was seeking. I did so and mentioned what a previous oculoplastic surgeon recommended after surgery with him. I then received a very rude email stating that my eyes were shaped "extremely different" (duh, I know that, that's why I'm seeking help), and that the surgery wouldn't be helpful. No suggestions for an in person consultation. If I look so "extremely" uneven, wouldn't you at least want to try to help me? Photos are limited for evaluation. Also, I just mentioned what one doctor suggested years ago. Obviously I don't believe that what was mentioned then is still what I need. I just finished medical school and honestly, I'm still so peeved and hurt by this unprofessional encounter I felt the need to write. Having a congenital eye disorder results in a lot of insecurities, and having a sensitive bedside manner is really important when helping potential patients. I felt awful about myself after this encounter and stopped seeking help for some time...I just hope whoever wrote that email has learned to be more sensitive towards vulnerable patients. Ridiculous, but I figured two days were enough time to reschedule. As life would have it, I had an emergency that day - last minute euthanization of my dog and I was extremely upset. I called to reschedule, but they were going to charge the cancellation fee. I explained the situation, but there was absolutely no compassion or empathy. I get that practices have policies, but they already had my consult fee. I could not afford to lose $150 (actually $300 if I didn't reschedule). I had a neighbor watch my dog. My 45 minute scheduled consult only lasted about 20 minutes tops, so definitely not worth the money, nor was I impressed. I have since scheduled two other consults, neither of which have charged me in advance, and one doesn't charge a consult fee at all. I don't charge a consult fee. This practice was one of the five recommended by a close friend/medical professional. I gave two stars because the office looked nice and closer than where I am going now. It seems this practice values money over empathy and compassion.

Dr. Lohner made this decision easy. He was everything I was looking for in a doc - great listener, professional, interactive, vast experience - just to name a few important qualifications. And his gentle mannerism was just icing on the cake! So I scheduled to proceed with the surgery to take place on March 4. At the front end it's important to mention the ease of dealing with his staff during procedural set-up - they were very supportive and never tired of questions from me about the process. This was important to me because with my decision to take a step like this came a case of the jitters. The staff clearly understood this and did everything they could to manage my expectations and to make me feel at ease. I'm now on the other end of the surgery. My experience at the hospital (Bryn Mawr) was professional and streamlined which kept my stress to a minimum as I awaited the actual surgery. Dr. Lohner was available pre-surgery to answer last minute questions and to go over the game plan we had discussed in his office. The outcome. I could not be happier with the result - already. Different techniques he employed helped to keep swelling and bruising to a minimum. The desk staff were incredibly nice and accommodating in scheduling my appointment and even emailed me the paper work to fill out ahead of time. As for the procedure itself- yes, it hurts- but far less than, say, waxing or getting stung by a swarm of wasps. It's also fairly quick, and the aesthetician is blasting the area with super cold air the whole time to keep things a bit more comfortable. I was treated by Nicole, who was very nice, and explained everything thoroughly- and kept me talking throughout the procedure to keep my mind off of things. The office, while semi-difficult to find, is very clean and comfortable. All in all, I am happy so far and look forward to going back.
