Let me give you a nice laundry list of my purchase of a tidy litany of needs, all for under a hundred dollars: Relevant literature/books for me, my new favorite clutch purse bag, snow gloves, two phone holders for vehicles, fine clothing for me and my family, household staples like notepads or three ring binder punches, and for sure my list could go on. Let's stop saying that the money you pay for these is too much or too little and instead look to what your purchase does: it funds the Fisher Hospice Home. This isn't your typical 'store,' and would be more fair to call it a non-profit venture. Volunteers maintain the store floor, swap out goods seasonally, review donations, and they all work as volunteers, for gratuity alone. The love they spend on what visitors might like is obvious, from their childrens' toy section, to their miniature library, to the household goods section. The space is maintained, full of light, and is accessible. What might challenge you is that what you find here is going to be more personal to you, instead of some wide class you happen to be a part of. That is what happens when you merchandise in timeless necessities--you would just as likely find a selfie stick here as you might find typewriter paper. What you leave with is actually liberating: there's no tracker of your behavior as a consumer, there's no brand loyalty that you're analyzed for, you're just a local shopper. Perhaps that's why the Fisher Home Hospice Shop feels like any internationally savvy visitor would visit, because what strikes you might be as surprising as any other bargain reseller, like Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Here, it's local, it's for a cause, and it's open to the public. Downstairs and upstairs is a quiet drop-in space for bike sales, bike accessories, bike publications, bike supplies, and bike repairs. I brought two bicycles here for repair, one that as more of a child's toy instead of a bicycle industry piece, and another. Both needed some minor repair and upkeep, which Laughing Dog did for an affordable price for each bike, and included a safety inspection. Walking into their bicycle shop was half the treat, as they were done with the repairs within only a day. Settled in the back lot alley, with parking and two one-way driveways for in and out, Laughing Dog uses their space with a savvy of years. This is something they provide that a place which only "sells" or repairs bicycles probably can't offer you, and which I believe is common to the bicycle workshops of western MA. I had the impression that I could ask about local bicycling trails, bicycling races, bicycling events, bicycling tournaments, bicycling tracks, bicycling stars, bicycling history, and on and on, and get whatever insight I needed. Their sales floor wasn't jam-packed, and was navigable with the large variety of bikes on their sales floor as well. Bicycles ranged from entry level bicycles to professional, tourney, and off-road bicycles. However, their floor had such a variety, it makes me imagine the variety of customers they've helped over the decades. The variety of bells they have on a handlebar by the register add a cute little touch of bicycling history and options for noisy alarms. I found this place as such a treat to visit, I might as well consider it more than where bike experts meet, I would want to visit it for bicycle history and expertise in the local area.

Edit: Okay, rather than an update I think I'll heavily modify this review. Which was more of a rant about Tony than a fair review of the store. I stripped out the vitriol, which didn't leave much behind. So, starting again... I guess one of my main problems here is that I want to spend 10 or 15 minutes at least, playing an instrument. And the instrument in question was a resonator. They are loud. And it's definitely annoying to sit in a shop listening to someone else torturing an instrument. So maybe you could use a closet or something where one can do that. Because I was ready to buy, and I did buy, a few weeks later. From the Emporium. My original review was only a couple of years old, the actual visit that set me off goes back a good 7 or 8 years now. So you obviously left a very bad taste in my mouth.
