Josh brings the right instruction, the right gear, and, importantly, a boat to get you to the right spots and keep you safe. He took my 17-year-old son and me out for a lesson. My son had been out a handful of times, but on gear that was too advanced, which made learning difficult. I have a lot of foiling experience but wanted to try parawinging for the first time. Josh had really useful tips for both of us and was great at figuring out what each of us needed to work on. He took us straight to a protected spot with plenty of wind, which made it possible to focus on learning rather than worrying about tides, launches, or how we were going to get back. Josh clearly has a ton of experience, both with foiling and with the Bay, and he's really easy to learn from. It was also great being able to do all of this right from Marin. We'll definitely go out with him again. Thanks Josh!

A few months ago I got a sailing dinghy. After a couple of outings, it was clear that even in…read moremercifully light winds, I was making mistakes and I could use a boost up the learning curve, so I emailed J World about a private lesson, and Wayne answered and set me up for a four-hour lesson with Jasper. In the marina parking lot, Jasper and I first worked through some rigging issues I had not been able to figure out from the manual. Then we spent a couple of hours tacking and jibing in the Alameda Estuary while he showed me the tunings that the rig offers, played with weight distribution, and even tried out the trapeze. On the last couple of downwind legs, we got the gennaker up and gybed and snaked to build downwind speed. That was a stretch goal for the afternoon as far as I was concerned. I love the way Jasper is fearless about the possibility of an unplanned swim, and not too anxious about a newbie skipper making mistakes while he crews, all the way up to and including dumping the boat (which I almost did). He just makes corrections and suggestions matter-of-factly while all the time positioning his weight and tuning the sails with high expertise. Update: Jasper and I went out again for some good times in higher winds. This time we actually did dump the boat near the bridge pier just SW of Treasure Island. Jasper was as-usual cool about the whole thing. Turns out someone on land called us in while we were righting the boat, and we even got a friendly check-in from the Coast Guard as we were sailing away. My bad that wriggling into the boat over the transom shut my radio off. I'm sure they hailed us before coming out and I could have saved them a trip.

He was right behind me instructing and encouraging me the entire time, giving me instantaneous feedback on how to fix my technique. I've been wanting to do it for a long time, and finally called up Ino and a dozen sessions later--some with him, some on my own--over the course of a few months I had the basics down. Ino is patient and encouraging through the entire journey. He teaches by showing you and then observing you and he does this like any great teacher would. He's also had very spot-on recommendations on gear and has a great source for it that shipped it really fast. I've been super happy with having the right equipment to work with very soon. Lastly, he's got all the latest gadgets, from Go Pro camera, to the helmet radio that he can coach you through while you're on the water. After each session he sends cool snapshots or video clips of your latest achievements. My text thread with him is like a photo diary of my kiting progression. Moreover, there is a whole social factor when studying with Ino. He's got a stellar reputation and has generations of students around the East Bay that you'll inevitably bump into sooner or later, or he'll introduce you outright. Sometimes he points them out to you on the water, just by the color of their kite and their style. So you don't just get a series of lessons, you get a warm introduction to the whole local community.

I love rollerblading, and Bfree showed me how to love it more. In one session the way I approach and land tricks, and the way I think about rollerblading at all has completely transformed. I'm definitely going to be a longtime student of Bfree. If you are looking to enjoy rollerblading more and also progress in your skill level, or want to develop more confidence, courage, and clarity in your rollerblading, BFree is your man. I also want to comment on the guy's character. One of the main reasons I signed up for a private lesson with Bfree was because I liked what he was doing in his community and for the rollerblading community as a whole. In BFree Blading Academy First Friday in Oakland video I saw, you could really see a genuine kindness in the guy. He is exactly like that in person. It makes me really happy knowing that the money I spend on private lessons with Bfree is going towards supporting a family man, towards benefiting the Oakland community, and towards benefiting the Rollerblading community as a whole and putting wheels under more people's feet. It's a huge accelerator honestly. After our session I honestly felt like a walked away 100 times better. On flat, on vert, on coping, on ledges, on rails... Just better at rollerblading in every way possible. He's teaching style is on point too. It was exactly everything I was hoping it would be. Rollerblading is fun. Do it. #letsgetitforever

He gave us exercises to demonstrate to him and to us that we knew what we are doing and helped us learn how to work together as a couple; skipper and crew.
