This is a fun, campy little tourist spot with great food and a view of the water from its sheltered semi-outdoor seating area. I visited on a Friday afternoon. While waiting in the long line, I got a chance to chat with other tourists from Texas, Ohio, and Indiana, who were enjoying Maine in June as much as I was. The local beer and lobster roll were outstanding. This would be a five-star review except that I also ordered the mussels, which were just so-so. If you avoid making my mistake, you can expect a fantastic meal at Claws. read more

Back in July 2023 ordered a lobster roll which was soggy and raw. Worst lobster roll I have ever had. We have had carry out from this place several times over the past few years and their fried fish and scallops have always been good but this time we ordered the lobster row. Maybe bad day but terrible. read more

We decided to stop at last minute on our road trip up to Bar Harbor because due to Chovid everything closes early...so GLAD we did. It was delicious! The lobster rolls SO good. I also had Lulu's lobster bisque and again..delicious! Would recommend to anyone in search of good lobster. Very friendly, good local beer and great food. The view was awesome as well. 5 stars! read more

Claws - Bites taken out of a lobster roll with butter on it. To die for... - Seafood Near Me - Rockland, Maine

Everything at Claws was so good, we ate here twice in two days. Fried whole belly clams with onion strings (extra charge) and lobster roll for me (with the most lobster I've seen in a roll before). Boiled 1.5 lb lobster and fried whole belly clams for my husband. Cold beers too. Loved every bite. read more

Claws - Lobster roll - Seafood Near Me - Rockland, Maine

Some of the most succulent lobster meat can be found in the claws. And some of the best meat can be found at Rockland's (arguably) most famous lobster eatery. It might be touristy to search for a lobster roll the minute we cross into Maine, but it was also past our lunchtime. Since Claws had rave reviews from our friends, we made it our first stop. Even though we knew what we wanted to order, we perused the menu at our leisure, having beat the lunch rush with our mid-afternoon arrival. Our cashier kindly took our order and gave us a lobster placeholder. Settling on Rockland's "Finest Kind" lobster rolls, my fiance ordered the "Flatlandah" (buttered) and I ordered mine with the standard touch of mayo, both with a side of corn. We also shared an iced tea to wash it all down. Tender, flavorful lobster meat was overflowing from a lightly toasted New England roll. There was a healthy chunk of lobster in every bite. The sweet corn was a nice follow up to the rolls. Now this is how I'd like to start every summer! Eating that quickly meant some clean up was needed. The cashier mentioned that the restroom was well-stocked, but nothing could have prepared me for the set up. I couldn't help taking some photos; there were all sorts of toiletries for guests - flowers, mouthwash, and even antacid tablets! Before we left, we took advantage of the many photo opps available around the restaurant. Next time we visit, I plan on trying the Claws Lobster Burger and Lulu's Lobster Bisque. YUM! read more

Big chunks of sexy lobster meat!!!!!! My girlfriend and I stopped here for lunch with her family today. She ordered the lobster tacos with truffle fries, while I opted for the Surf & Turf burger. She liked the tacos, but they neglected to mention onions being included(she despises onions more than she despises me) no big deal, she picked them out. Her truffle fries were good but more salty than the ocean, while my burger featured generous amounts of lobster and was cooked to perfection. All in all a solid dining experience in my eyes, but my girlfriends dad did think we waited to long for our food. We"ll probably be back if we're in town again. read more

Serious disappointment. I grew up in Maine and if I'm asked to wait over an hour in line and then for food, it better be good. It wasn't. You all could be doing so much better. read more

Claws - Lazy lobster dinner - Seafood Near Me - Rockland, Maine

I would hesitate to recommend this restaurant after our experience this evening. We're in town for Lobster Festival and thought we'd start our weekend at Claws after reading good things and seeing a very busy parking lot. It was a busy night, I recognize that. We ordered the seafood fries, a lobster roll, fish and chips, and chicken strips. We found a table on the covered patio with a beautiful view and settled in to wait for our meal. Our receipt was time stamped 7:15, our food came to the table at 8:10. We waited almost a full hour and watched the entire patio turn over in that time. Multiple parties that arrived after us got their food and ate before we were served. At about the 45 minute mark we checked in with the kitchen and they said they were waiting for the cheese sauce on the fries. Isn't cheese sauce something you'd prepare in advance for faster serving? When we finally got our food, the lobster roll was absolutely soaking in butter so the bread was inedible. The fish and chips were hot and yummy. The batter was nice and light and they had good flavor. The seafood fries were lukewarm and the cheese sauce we had to wait for w already coagulating. We were so excited to eat here as our first meal in ME and it was super disappointing. Not worth the $120 we spent. It felt like people who ordered lobster meals or oysters were getting served quickly, but everyone else was waiting. There were other people complaining at the window when we checked on our order and the woman next to us sent her food back because it was also cold. I want to give them a second chance, but that was a tough loss and a poor way to start our trip. read more

Claws was a top notch lobster shack experience. Big menu with lots of food and drink options plus lots of humor in the decor and menu items. The 16oz "vacation" sized glass of wine was a big seller. You order at the window then grab a table - we sat on the covered back patio with a view of the bay. Food was fresh and well seasoned. We had steamed clams and stuffed lobster tails. Everything else out of the kitchen looked just as good. Friendly staff. Easy parking. Can't wait to go back! read more

We arrived for lunch around 1:00 p.m. and stood in line to order I had the Lazy Lobster dinner. As expected, it appeared that I had gotten all the meat from a small lobster already picked clean for me. The lobster meat was tasty enough in the drawn butter and sherry, but a little tough as if it was slight overcooked or had sat a while after having been cooked. All in all we had a good dinner, but next time I'm going to order my lobster whole so that I can make sure I get all the meat I'm entitled to and I can order a bigger lobster for the same price. It will be more trouble and messier, but more satisfying. read more

Lobster Bisque was good, not great. But expensive. My wife snd I both ordered the small (and I mean small) lobster rolls. She with mayo and I with butter. Both were very tasty. I liked the old facility and ate on the back porch; nice view. Service was good and staff was friendly. read more

Coming from Boston, I thought I would never found a better lobster roll than the one from Neptune Oyster... Well, turns out I was wrong! Claws offers what at least until now is THE BEST lobster roll I have ever tried. Both my girlfriend and I got one and we were in heaven as soon as we tasted it! Lobster was super fresh, roll was moist and they barely used mayonnaise, only the perfect amount to keep the roll together. I can't wait until our next time in the area; Claws will be for sure our first stop! read more

Claws - Lobster Roll - Seafood Near Me - Rockland, Maine

I'll start with the positive. The clam chowder was unique and excellent. It included whole belly clams and I've never had that in clam chowder before and it was delicious. The broth part was also tasty. There were lots of potatoes so it took up quite a bit of space. My spouse's strawberry rhubarb salmon was pretty good. I ordered the haddock sandwich. We opened our bag after we arrived to the park we were having our food and it was then that I discovered that the sandwich didn't include the side of tartar sauce as the menu said it would. It would have been very helpful as the fish was overcooked and very dry. The sandwich was very disappointing. The biggest complaint is that when my spouse was picking up the food, on 2 occasions, we requested utensils and napkins. The person giving us the order reassured us that they were included in the bag. When we opened the bag to eat our food, the utensils were nowhere to be found. It wasn't very fun eating our chowder without a spoon and I wound up saving my cole slaw for another time. I don't think my spouse enjoyed eating the salmon by hand. Maybe we caught them on an off night on a Saturday. Don't know, but we won't be returning. read more

This place is very cute and well run. It is full of kitschy decor and the food is great. The chowder was delicious. I had some kind of seafood tacos I cannot remember, but I know they were very good. The lovely seating area overlooking the water is a nice place to enjoy some seafood and a nice cold beer or canned cocktail. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. read more

Claws makes me happy, because it's the only place I know where I can get a gluten free lobster roll, and crab roll, and a bunch of other stuff. Still no gluten free fried foods yet, but maybe someday. Their menu is large and a little confusing. And definitely not inexpensive. But I think it's a really fun place, nice view and seating area, a condiment bar that I've never used, but is always fun to look through, and certainly convenient. Seasonal, so go now! read more

Claws - Crab side. Gf lobster roll with butter. Messy! - Seafood Near Me - Rockland, Maine

This is the real deal. They claim they give you the whole lobster on your roll. It was fresh and delicious. Terrific view of the water and friendly and helpful service. I saw one of the young servers tying the bib for an older customer. You don't usually see such a high level of service these days so that was a pleasant surprise. This is a very casual road side shack type of a place but worthwhile for the view, service and of course, the lobster. read more

My Sweetie loved his lobster roll and chowder. I cannot do shellfish and loved that Claws had some healthy options for those who are not able to have lobster. I had the green veggie salad with a side of broiled haddock. Everything was very fresh and delicious. The only downside is a port a potty vs. running plumbing. Hopefully that is a temporary thing. read more

We were wanting to go there. Called & asked about menu items, woman was very nice. After thanking her I told we would be there the next day. She says good. The next day we went there and they were closed for the season. How is it she never mentioned that when I spoke to her? Complete lack of common sense. Sadly, a common problem in our society today. read more

We went here because of great reviews.first off 82 dollars they lost my order and i had to show them my reciept after waiting 45 minutes .lobster bisque had 15 bay leaves with stems in a bowl i had to spit out, your lobster roll meduim was chewy , the fries were great .awe the printer didnt print out . read more

What a strange experience. I read the other reviews and was prepared for a tourist trap experience with high prices and mediocre food. We had some highly adequate oysters and chowder, but when the steamed clams arrived, they were so gritty that they were inedible. We had to argue to return them and were told that the kitchen "couldn't control" for that and that we were given water so we could rinse off the clams. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

We took a party of 10 to Claws last night. It was quite possibly one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. We waited over an hour for our food to come out and when it did, the lobster was COLD, the appetizers came after some of the main dishes and two entrees came out 30 minutes later. Many of the dishes did not come out with the side dishes we had bought. The staff didn't have a handle on the volume of complaints that were coming in from us and other diners, and they seemed totally overwhelmed. They ended up comping us a bottle of wine and a lobster, but it was hardly worth the chaos of the night. Most of this could have been avoided if they had let people know when they were standing in line to order that the time from ordering to the time food would be ready would be more than an hour. They should probably also just focus on being a Lobster shack and not an all things to all people Cheesecake Factory. read more

Good food, horrible service. Went there twice when we were in the area. The first time, we ordered fried clams and fried haddock dinners. The food was delivered to our table without any silverware or napkins. We had to ask for that as well as for the coleslaw that was supposed to come with the dinners. Food was very good. The second time, we ordered a double order of fried clams to go. We waited 15 minutes ans finally asked. They had lost our order in the kitchen. They made it very quickly then. The clams were very good when we finally got them. read more

They have two dining areas, but they are covered areas on the outside and not in a building though the seating areas are enclosed. The lobster dinner comes with a whole corn cob and very good coleslaw. My husband and I ordered the Taste of Main lobster dinner that came with a 1 1/2 pound lobster, a whole corn, some coleslaw and a small roll. For some reason, my husband's lobster was significantly larger than mine, which means I may have gotten a 1 1/4 pound lobster. They only offer 1 pound, 1 1/4 pound, 1 1/2 pound and 2 pound lobsters. I know my husband's could not have been a 2 pound lobster because that's what I originally ordered and was told they were out. In any event, the lobsters were perfect. They don't tell you, however, that when you pay, you are charged $2 for the nut crackers they give you for the lobster. You get the $2 back when you return the nut crackers. I noticed that when I looked at my receipt and saw that I had been charged $31 for the dinner which their sign said was $29. This is definitely a place to return to. read more

We discovered "Claws" about 2 years ago and have successfully enjoyed many meals there, but not without disappointments. The 1'st was, they decided to discontinue an appetizer of Lobster claws with a fantastic dipping sauce. There must be a reason, so with many other choices let's just move on. Our latest visit included a lobster mac and cheese that proved to be a disappointment. The lobster had a fishy taste which I've been told is indicative of not fresh or previously frozen meat. In light of previous great meals, I still gave them 3 stars, everyone is entitled to an occasional mistake. read more

Updating this July 2021. Still excellent, still huge lobster roll that wasn't just big but also tasted good. This is a really nice place.

OK, so I have a somewhat mixed review of claws. There were six of us in our party, so some reviews were good some not so good, but nothing bad. For me, I was able to snag a gluten-free lobster roll. That is pretty cool, especially the baguette that they used was tasty and surprisingly high-quality. That being said, this sandwich reminded me that I'm not a fan of lobster LOL however, if the lobster filling had maybe a little bit more mayonnaise or maybe some chive or some other seasoning to it I would've enjoyed it more. The fries were good. A couple people in my party got whole lobsters, and they really enjoyed that meal. My wife got lobster bisque which she really enjoyed and lobster mac & cheese which she did not enjoy that much because it tasted more like past Alfredo than a Mac and cheese dish. Another person in my party got the surf and turf burger and he said it was one of the top 10 burgers he had ever eaten. I also got a blueberry lemonade which I enjoyed and had a lot of fun smiling with blueberry all up in my teeth Space is limited for seating, but the dining patio was, shall we say "customizable" because our party, along with many others were moving tables around to accommodate different size parties. read more

Went for early dinner so no wait. Overall food was a bit pricey but really good. The scallops wrapped in bacon were awesome. The chowder was ok. Much better at Rockland Cafe! The lazy man's lobster was a generous portion and swimming in butter. Yummy. As well as the coleslaw and corn on the cob. The stuffed haddock with crab was beyond great. Very tasty! And for all the naysayers about the location: it's off Route 1 with a view of the water and it's supposed to be a shack. What do you expect table cloth dining? Really! Definitely worth going! read more

A nice lobster shack right on the water. Great view and eating picnic tables. I had the lobster Mac n cheese. It was huge and enough to share. Large pieces of lobster in it. My husband had the lobster tacos and they were good but chips were stale. Not 5 stars because lobster MaC n cheese should not be served in a paper plate. $24 should include maybe even a plastic plate. Not a cheap place to eat at all. And chips should not be stale, come on $19 really? read more

Great tourist stop! Great ambiance, friendly staff, and tasty food! Truffle fries were a must have!

Giant lobster roll and perfectly prepared fried Haddock fillet with onion straws; too bad they're closing for the season on October 10th.

A lovely lobster spot with an amazing view. It's outdoor seating so it's dog friendly! My sister's favorite was the clam chowder. After eating several lobster rolls in Maine, I honestly can't say which place has the best lobster because after 2, they all start tasting the same. Lobster meat cooked till tender, dressed in mayo or hot butter, then slapped on a roll. It doesn't taste bad, but it all tastes the same since the main star of the show is supposed to be lobster. Granted, in Maine, since seafood is plentiful, you get a lot of lobster meat for your money. read more

I did not like their service. I ordered the ultimate combo which comes with a variety of seafood. The menu was ambiguous in the pricing, we all thought it was $26 dollars with the handwritten marker, but when I went to pay, it turns out to be $36. The three looked like a two. I was hesitant to purchase since it was a extra $10 I didn't expect to pay, but the cashier swiped my card before I can reorder. So please make sure you check the price they write down. Upon collecting my order, I noticed the crab was missing and when I asked about it, the cook apologizes saying the cashier should've told me that they were out of the crab and would substitute a chowder for it. A chowder was already included in the combo and so I asked for a discount instead. He mentions the crab is so cheap, another chowder is a good substitute. I was too hungry to argue so I just accepted the extra chowder. There's a $2 deposit for the shell crackers and so my group put in for 2 crackers. My friend only had a $5 bill so the cashier just took it and claim she'll just give it back to us. I knew she would forget and lo&behold, after our meal we had to repeatedly tell her we gave her a $5 instead of the $4 bills she tried to give back. If you're going to take my $5 bill instead of your $4 charge, kindly remember we gave that to you. It's a small shack, only a handful of customers, so I feel you would remember what you promised. Thank you to the cook, you were kind and helpful in your explanation, but please re train your cashier. My experience was not great and although I enjoyed my food, the service just turned me off. The lobster was huge and corn was amazing though. Lobster bisque was good too. EDIT: I looked over my receipt just now and noticed the cashier charged my card $40.60 instead of the $40.50 that was due. My fault for not checking the receipt and what I was charged, I'm too used to cashiers charging me the correct amount. Good job Claws, definitely solidifies I'm never coming back to this establishment. Too bad the food was good. read more

Tasty seafood at reasonable prices. Our favorites were the whole lobster with butter (of course) and the fried scallops and whole clams. You can taste how fresh it is, rather than the bland long-frozen seafood you might get elsewhere. The fried were thick-cut and crispy, with a bit of seasoning. I think their cocktail sauce is homemade, because it also had something extra. Great place! We also enjoyed having some beers and looking out over the water. Again, good prices. read more
