My mother and I watched Carrie the Musical last night and it was fantastic! If Stephen King were in the audience, I think he would be proud! I hope in the near future they'll put on productions of Phantom of the Opera, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Evil Dead the musical as those are all shows I've yet to see that I have been dying to watch (no pun intended)!!!

In fact, our delivered bundle of hand-picked flowers, a personalized card indicating the name of the recipient, and gifts bundled within, was handed directly to the Play Director who met us in the lobby and told us our gift would be delivered. We even stayed after the show in order to confirm delivery, but we were startled and offended to see the very gift we had brought paraded by members of the cast through the exiting audience. Not any point during our nearly three hours stay on-site were we spoken to again or informed of delivery. We have then called the box for six consecutive days and have not received any replies to our voicemails or inquiries. All of our attempts to contact this establishment have been ignored, and it is now clear that we were mistreated by staff during our time in attendance, as it appears our gifts were falsely taken and stolen. I am lifelong theatre actor, director, and film director, and I have never experienced this level of ineptitude or gross negligence from what espouses to be a "Safe Place" and a "Community Theatre." Never in my life have I seen a gift stolen by theatre staff and then paraded in front of the audience. Please be advised - this is being treated as a theft, currently, but without any confirmation or communication from anyone, this very well could be a kidnapping, as we have not seen or heard from the person who invited us to this show. Hopefully we do receive the required responses soon, or law enforcement may have to be notified.

The theater is easy to find and there is a parking lot (pay to park) right next door. Now, I will say, the seating rows are a bit tight meaning once you sit down, no one can pass by you. You would literally have to stand up and possibly move into the isle way to let the person pass by. My advice, get a seat at the END of the isle. But otherwise, great community theater and we can't wait to go back!

She's enjoyed several theater camps in the Tacoma area and we value each for a unique culture. What I especially appreciate about TYT is how they conjure something amazing virtually from thin air. The kids have a blast. Every kid gets a good part and they are involved in all aspects of the production. It's a great little "black box" theater. The camp was a great boost for my daughter's creativity and confidence. I give 4 stars only because sometimes the TYT folks were late opening the door in the mornings. Sometimes you waited around a few minutes to drop off your child. This wasn't a big deal for me, but I can see how it would annoy some parents & caregivers.

Doors open one hour before, and before it starts they have some magicians and clowns going around doing some entertainment. There are some concessions (hot dogs, drinks, candy, cotton candy, popcorn), toys available for purchase, as well as face painting, and some photo board things. The top tier seating is a separated area with two rows right by the stage. The general admission is level seating on both sides of the stage. Premium, mid range price seating, is stadium above ground seating in the front of the stage. We did the mid-level stadium seating, and it is first come first serve for which seats you choose in that area. We arrived just 15 minutes before start time and were three rows up, but the kids had no problem seeing. General admission is all ground level and also first come first serve, so if you do that, I'd get there right when doors open to get a good seat. If you sit right up front in the top tier seats, you might be participating or have a little water squirted at you (the invisible dog peed). No animals, but a great little variety show with acrobats, a hula hoop girl, tightrope walker, trapeze artists, acrobats, yo-yo guy, and some goofy slapstick comedy. Our kids loved the goofy comedy and the acrobats. Would be great for younger kids, or for older kids who have never seen a Cirque du Soleil. If they've already been to Vegas and done the whole Cirque du Soleil thing, then this will be a bit of a letdown. But for a small local traveling circus, it was perfect for our kids and they loved their first big tent experience. If you have young kids, definitely a must do!

We decided to go on an adventure and take a painting class together. He, an engineer, didn't think himself a painter or an artist at all. I consider myself more of the artsy-fartsy type and was completely ecstatic about going to this class! I walked into this little hole-in-the-wall in Renton and was greeted very kindly by the owner, Bev, and a guest artist. Some booze and snacks were had and then we entered the art room. Not officially called "the art room," but I thought it was a clever description. The painting process was explained and easy to understand. Every painting seemed very unique and easy enough to learn. Even though my bf wasn't an artist, his painting turned out wonderful! We had a great time. I recommend going after work with the girls or for a birthday party. I brought home a complete work of art and it was a really good time. Some suggestions: eat dinner ahead of time, come early to find parking, and you might not want to be a perfectionist because the two hours we had went by really quick. I'd like to go to a longer session. All the paintings look so RAD!

Maris Farms is so much more than a pumpkin patch or somewhere you visit once a year. After years of…read morecoming here with my family--and now getting the opportunity to see it from behind the scenes--I have an even greater appreciation for what they've built. Maris Farms Throughout the Year Maris Farms creates some wonderful experiences for families throughout the year. Their spring events, including Springtime Babies and all the baby animals, are fantastic for kids. But obviously, the highlight is the Fall Festival. There is so much to do: games, apple blasters, obstacle courses, slides, animals, and activities throughout the farm. There truly is something for every age group, and you can easily spend hours here. And the food is legitimately good--not just "good for an event." The burgers are great, the lemonade is fantastic, and the street corn is easily one of my favorites every year. Then the sun goes down, and Maris Farms becomes an entirely different experience. The Haunted Woods I've gone through the Haunted Woods with my daughter for five years, and it has become one of our favorite traditions. I've experienced plenty of haunted attractions, and I genuinely believe Maris Farms has one of the best haunts in the greater Puget Sound area. The sets, lighting, fog, animatronics, sound, and especially the way the entire haunt flows are incredibly well done. Every year they change things just enough that there's always something new waiting for you. But what really makes this haunt special are the actors. These people absolutely love what they do. From the first guests coming through around 8:00 until the final groups well after 10:30, they are ALL IN. They're performing, interacting, reading people's reactions, staying in character, and finding creative ways to scare you. Whether you're the first group through or the last, they want you to have an incredible experience. You can tell this isn't simply an attraction to the people running it. Haunting is a passion for them, and they're exceptionally good at their craft. Behind the Scenes This year, for the first time, I joined the Haunted Woods team in a security/safety role, which gave me an opportunity to see everything from the other side. It honestly affirmed everything I already believed about this place. The actors are every bit as energetic and passionate behind the scenes, and there are some genuinely great people working here. But I especially want to recognize the unsung heroes who build, maintain, and operate the sets. These guys are incredible. They're there long before guests arrive--building, repairing, adjusting corn and set pieces, testing lights, fog machines and animatronics, and making sure hundreds of little details are working correctly. When something breaks during the haunt, they're there fixing it. And after the last guests leave, when everyone is exhausted and ready to go home, they're still there. They walk the entire haunt again, checking everything and making sure it's ready to do all over again. Most guests will never see that work or know the names of the people doing it, but they deserve a tremendous amount of credit. Five Stars--From Both Sides of the Haunt After five years experiencing the Haunted Woods as a customer with my daughter, I already loved this place. Getting to see the actors, builders, designers, technicians, safety staff, and everyone else behind it has given me an entirely new appreciation for just how much work goes into creating this experience. Whether you're bringing the kids during the day for the Fall Festival, grabbing some street corn and lemonade, launching apples and hitting the slides, or coming after dark because you want somebody hiding in a cornfield to scare the living daylights out of you, Maris Farms is absolutely worth experiencing. To everyone behind the scenes who makes this place what it is: you guys do an incredible job. Five stars, without hesitation. My daughter and I will absolutely keep coming back.

The most interesting section for our baby was the animal area as she hasn't seen any of those animals in person. We also played a few ball throwing games between my husband and I and picked sunflowers that lasted more than a week after our visit. I definitely plan to make this spot a family tradition for years to come!

Before delving into all that, though, I will summarize some of its best features: * Free parking (in the east lot only, however) * Wonderful security, concession, and event staff (minus one manager in particular) * Spacious venue, with great sight lines, even from the floor Now, on to the problem: Myself, my wife, and another 20-or-so attendees had VIP Meet & Greet tickets to meet one of the bands in the lineup for our event, to which we were invited into the venue early to hang out with them, take pictures, etc. Although our band was not the headliner, we were told by event staff that, once our session was done, we'd have to head back outside. However, we were explicitly told to line up behind the VIP line for the headliner, and once their session was one, we'd ALL be allowed entry into the venue early, partially to avoid the 90+ degree heat and direct sunlight hitting the glass and reflective mirrors on the sunny-side of the building, where our lines were told to assemble. We confirmed this multiple times with the gentleman, who was friendly, warm, helpful and welcoming. Once we were back outside, things took a turn south, as the Events Manager, the aforementioned smug, rude, condescending and callous mentioned above, decided otherwise, and subjected nearly two dozen people to several hours of sun exposure, simply due to her being on some sort of power trip. Multiple people in our group would end up suffering from heat-related health issues, including two diabetics. Thankfully, some of the caring concession staff inside, noticing our plight, offered some free cold beverages to help alleviate their suffering. Despite being informed of what the previous gentleman had said, as well as the condition of the people suffering in the heat, the Events Manager continued to be smug and dismissive, her response always distilling down to basically "because I said so". Her final excuse was that our tickets simply could not be scanned for entry prior to a certain time, which is true to a point. However, as one of the people in our group worked for Ticketmaster, and informed her, and everyone present, that this is adjustable by the venue AND Ticketmaster, she ran out of excuses. Once we were finally inside, things were great, once people had recovered from the heat. However, this Events Manager put people's live in danger for no reason other than exerting her power, and that is in excusable. A complaint is being filed with the BBB by multiple people in our group, as well as formal complains with the venue's ownership and upper management. At the VERY least, in the future, ShoWare Center needs to inform their management that extended queues for summer events MUST be moved to the shaded side of the building, and when people start to suffer legitimate risks to their health, then it's time to take action...or be the subject of legal action taken against them.
