They have a grapefruit mint candle that is natural and smells refreshing, and I wanted to get that again. When we arrived, it was about 20 minutes prior to closing, but we decided to go in for a quick looksee. I pay attention to customer service and if the vibe is welcoming and this visit it was NOT! We did not get a hello or welcome. When paying for my candle, the owner said hello, my total, and asked me to punch in my card pin. Honestly, it felt as if we were stepping on toes for entering their shop close to closing. We weren't the last customers in the shop, and we were left the store 10 minutes prior to closing. When we left, the owner immediately ran outside and pulled in her sign and closed the door. My friend and I both talked about how unwelcomed we felt, and unfortunately, we decided we will not be coming back here. It has nothing to do with the items inside the shop, but it is a crummy feeling when you want to support a small business but are left feeling rushed and unappreciated.

The current owners took the time to invest in the building and have really changed the atmosphere which in turn changed the clientele. A great deck off the back of the bar overlooking the Milwaukee River. Many weekend nights they feature local musicians just off the riverfront. In the winter months the inside can be a bit cramped on busier nights but not terribly so. Collin's is a great early evening after dinner spot to stop for that "one more, than I gotta go".

West Bend Axe & Escape isn't likely to make it based on my dollars, but it's a fun little niche…read morebusiness West Bend is lucky to have. Axe throwing and Escape rooms seem to be all the rage right now and the community is lucky enough to not have to travel too far from home to take advantage. So the place is family friendly, but also has a full bar to boot. I did the axe throwing with a group of about 10. There's only 5-6 throwing lanes so reservations are definitely recommended. My wife paid like $30 each for us to play for an hour. There were 3 different axes to throw. There are games you can play and manually score if you hit what you were aiming at. It was my first time and fun to say I've now done it, but if I don't do it again I'll be ok. We did not do the escape room, but you can see in it and it appears to be a well designed room. We've done escape rooms on vacation and being that it's here in West Bend we'll return to give it a go. I don't envision doing the room more than once. Hopefully they change up the room every few months or I imagine it getting stale for those visitors. Fun and different experience for West Bend. Hopefully their able to become a regional draw.

I appreciate West Bend Cinema because it's not a Marcus Theater, which dominates the movie theater…read morescene in Wisconsin. They show most of the same movies that Marcus does, but once in awhile they'll have something Marcus doesn't or they'll have more convenient showtimes. Ticket prices are a bit cheaper at West Bend Cinema and I think their leather chairs are more comfortable than what Marcus has. The building itself is in serious need of maintenance though. For example, part of the black frame around the movie screen in auditorium 5 was torn and you could see a large section of plywood behind it. Also, there were multiple buckets on the floor in the hallway to catch water that was leaking through the roof and the ceiling tiles above the buckets looked really crappy like this had been happening for a while. I hope ownership is able to fix things up so it can keep this place going as long as possible.

Garbage containers all were overflowing, popcorn everywhere, popcorn station looked as if it went thru a tornado. This is a combination of inconsiderate and messy guests (mostly) and staff so I gave this another try on Tuesday. Same deal. The workers behind the counter were hustling but there were only 2 of them. The guy that was perhaps supposed to be cleaning up was sitting on a weathered and torn couch by the exit on his phone. I'd love to support this local theater more but when I go to the bathroom and there's no papertowels, I'm out for good.

Of cotillions on warm summer nights and of having a drink at the bar with your closest friends. Well, other than the pool, the tennis courts, and cotillions, you would be describing the West Bend Country Club. The West Bend Country Club is a pretty standard club. Membership here also allows a reciprocal relationship with a couple of other clubs in Wisconsin which is a nice perk. They have two levels of membership- social- just for eating in the restaurant, and golf which allows access to the full experience. This review is for a social membership only, and since there is no pool at the club- it is really only just for the dining room. I have been here for business lunches, special events, holidays, Sunday brunch- you name it! I guess that's a good thing- as with every membership, there is a minimum required spend per month that you need to hit as a member. My challenge with that- is I often get tired of eating at the same place just to hit the quota, as my relatives and friends who live near here constantly make this their first suggestion when eating out. What you usually expect from a private facility like this, is unparalleled service, food that you can't get anywhere else and facilities that are second to none. After all- that is what your membership dues go toward and most clubs I've been associated with deliver on this in an amazingly consistent way. But I continue to struggle with that expected level of service here. Granted I get that this is a "smallish" town in Wisconsin so maybe my expectations should be different than a country club in a major metro area- but in my opinion- if you are going to charge dues- you better have your act in gear. Service here is okay at best and borders dangerously close to absent at times which used to be unheard of in a private club. The food, on the other hand, is quite good which is why this is a 3 star review. I've never had a meal here that didn't meet my expectations. Country Clubs. They aren't for everyone. They tout the best food and service and allow for golf on the better courses.. As for me? I'd just as soon eat with the "less well heeled" and have lower expectations of the personal service and attention. But that's just me.

The back nine was built in 1960 and is more of a modern design. The property is spectacular having elevation changes created by glacial retreat. The food is great - new chef- and a new golf pros fir 2011.
