RUN, don't walk, from this place. I work close by so I stopped in to try their mani pedi special on my lunch, a $22 deal that will actually run you $25. My mani pedi was very sloppy and rushed; not the least bit relaxing. The entire thing was less than 20 minutes: 30 second foot soak, unevenly cut nails, hacking at my cuticles despite my multiple protests. They try to upsell you on EVERYTHING and the walls of this cheap and frankly unclean joint are covered in their price lists which they constantly reference in a pretty forceful manner. So I get my terrible mani pedi, and the woman approaches me at the dryer while I'm waiting, DEMANDING her tip. I tip her 20% despite the terrible service I feel I've received. She STANDS OVER ME, yells in my face, and tells me my tip isn't enough and she needs more. This lady (middle aged, stout Asian woman) actually BLOCKED ME FROM EXITING until she shook me down for another dollar. I've been getting mani pedis in the city for YEARS and never experienced anything like this. I have since reported this craphole to the Better Business Bureau! By far the WORST experience ever. I went in since I saw a sign for a Mani-Pedi for $22 on a Friday. I thought "not bad" but like the saying goes "you get what you pay for" The girl doing my hands was really rushed and annoyed everytime I asked her if she can please cut the hang nails sticking out. She filed and painted my nail like a toddler would then she finished by putting lotion on one hand only. My polish is uneven and faded looking. The girl doing my feet was cluesless, my feet looked better before I went in. I refused to leave a tip but they had the owner approach me and ask me to leave a tip. They stood and blocked the doorway so I won't leave without tipping. What a joke!!! To top it off I got home to notice a disgusting rash on both my feet. PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!!!! This is definitely the place for a professional women on her lunch break or in a hurry. When I used to work in the area, it was super convenient to go here on my lunch break or when I was in a rush after work. If you want a place that continues that Manhattan rush feeling or have a super busy schedule, this is the place for you. Some days though, all I want is a nice relaxing pedi and to read my book. Those were not the days I went to Classic nails. The girls are fast and do nails very well, and for Manhattan, the prices are great. You probably won't find a mani/pedi anywhere cheaper in the city (trust me, I've tried). One time my nail got messed up (while shuffling to the nail dryers, I tripped on another costumer's purse), and the girls picked me up, dusted me off and checked my nails. When it was discovered one of them smudged, they immediately came over with nail polish remover and nail polish to do damage control. read more

Just got a quick mani at classic nails tonight. I read the other yelp reviews before coming and came anyway, partially because it is right next to my job, mostly because of their cheap prices ($9.50 for a regular mani). Well you definitely get what you pay for! Overall I would give them 2.5 stars, and maybe I would even come back if I was in desperate need of a mani. The other girl doing nails seemed pretty legit in comparison to the girl I got, so I'm sure I would've had a better experience with her. Here's a quick overview of my experience: -polish removal - my skin around my nails is in bad shape, but with gentle polish scrubbing should've been unaffected. The girl scrubbed my skin so hard she broke open a scab and I was bleeding, which she blamed on me bc the cotton is "soft". Also, she failed to remove all the red nail polish I previously had on from all of my fingers. -filing- here filing motions were awkward and it felt like it was her first time shaping a nail. The overall shape came out ok -application- the application was like nothing I have ever experienced. Instead of smooth strokes, she basically dabbed the polish all over my nail (and skin) trying to cover the nail. She was pretty thorough about covering the sides of my nails, which I appreciated, however she had to scrape nail polish off my skin after every time she painted a nail. Also left me with a few nails with residue still on the skin (see pic). -top coat- this was slathered on my nail and all around the skin messily -drying - the drying machines blew out freezing cold air. Not ideal on a 10 degree day Overall, the place does the job, and is fine as long as you don't come in expecting an amazing pampering spa experience. Their color selection is OK, better than some I've seen at other places in midtown. The ladies were also very nice, and like I said, the other ladies looked like they were a bit more thorough with their work, so I would hope to get them if I gave the place another chance in the future. read more

Edit: Only 5 days after my gel manicure and 7 of my nails are peeling/chipped. Worst gel manicure of my life. ----- I came in for a pedicure and gel manicure, which was quite reasonable at $54. But you get what you pay for. The place is not clean and I'm not sure they sanitize their instruments or clean the foot soak tubs well. The pedicure scrub lasted maybe 10 seconds. And after less than 24 hours, my gel manicure is already peeling (usually they last 2-3 weeks for me without any peeling). The one thing they had going for them was that I was in and out in less than an hour. read more

Came in for a pedi and an acrylic full set with gel manicure on a Wednesday during lunch... I usually don't get acrylic anything but was headed to Vegas for the weekend and didn't want to mess around with chipping/breaking/etc. I'd give the girl that did my pedicure 4 stars, she was friendly and did a pretty good job with an even 2 coats, although I had some chipping the next day. My acrylic full set on the other hand.... The most horrendous job I've ever seen, and done by the owner/manager herself. The nails were about 10 layers too thick, and one hand was substantially longer than the other. I'd asked her two separate times if she could thin them and even them out, but argued that they couldn't be "too thin" otherwise the tips would pop off. I've had acrylics many times before and I understand the concept, but you should've seen these.... no way they needed to be that thick. I gave up after her attempts made no difference. I left the salon, not feeling good about the gel as it was uneven and patchy, but to be honest for the $60 ($45 for acrylic and additional $20, kinda ridiculous, for gel on top, but could be WAY worse in Manhattan) I thought, you get what you pay for right? But within an hour, the gel started lifting on the sides and chipping on the tips because I imagine her job was so rushed, she didn't let the coats properly dry, and the top coat wasn't applied on the entire nail. The location is very close to my work, so I went by afterward and had her fix 4 nails that I really just couldn't deal with (chipped and/or poor color application). She was very sweet and apologized and re-did the nails. LITERALLY HAPPENED AGAIN, AN HOUR LATER. I went back during my lunch the next day and asked her to fix the others that had chipped. I said I never experienced anything like this, and the reason I got acrylic with gel was so they wouldn't budge all weekend. She didn't say a word, fixed them, and I left. Next day two of my nails had half polish, and all of them had chips on the tip. Not saying this shop is totally a waste of time, like I said I had a decent pedicure and their prices are cheap, and it seems like others have had successful experiences. Manicure $12. Polish change $9. I called asking for polish change price. I'm in a quick hurry, just need color on my nails for an outing later. Quoted $9. Super close to work, I walk there. Woman greets me and says it's $9.45 due to tax. I told her nobody on the phone said anything about tax, every nail salon I go to either includes it in price or states it. Plus I only brought $10. She speaks to the manager in Chinese and they start bad mouthing me. I speak in Chinese and let them know they should tell customers of tax if they request pricing otherwise it's not an accurate price. They shut up after that and became a lot nicer. She took literally 2 minutes to put the polish on but it was smooth. I wanted something quick and cheap and that's what I got. The boss comes in 5 minutes later. Immediately speaks condescendingly with a nasty attitude in Chinese to all the workers for 5 minutes straight. She basically told them anything they tell the customer is on them and wanted them to respond "you're right." It was so uncomfortable to hear especially since she didn't know I could understand. I felt awful for the workers. Then, an older woman came in asking for gel. The boss tells the worker to upcharge her $3, what seems like for no reason. This place left me feeling uncomfortable. I went into this place 7 pm on a Wednesday evening and it was clear that the staff just wanted me in and out, which is fine, and I can understand since they were working all day. But one elderly woman was particularly rude and I knew she was talking about me because she said something then her co worker who was doing my pedicure laughed. Then they demanded that I pay for the session and the older woman demanded I leave my cash tip before she finished doing my mani incase "I forget or I can't get to the tip" cause of my hands. Overall, they are so rude and so many other women came inside because their nails had dried bad. Its also really small. I wouldn't recommend. Go elsewhere where they treat you well. This spot is meant to be a working woman's mani/pedi go-to. A quick trip on a lunch or afternoon break. The prices are cheap because they don't add frills (like long massages). But they have a few really good girls who do a very nice job. Cindy is great. It is def the cheapest mani/pedi you will find in Manhattan ($20 special on Mon-Tues, $23 Weds-Friday). Manicures are only $9. If you're like me and like a new manicure every 5 days, and don't like sitting through long massages, then this is the perfect and affordable spot. Horrible gel manicure here. I had to keep telling the manicurist where the polish needed to be filled because some areas were just SO uneven/clearer than other spots. There's polish on my skin and you can see and feel the bumps where it's uneven on my nail. I am OCD about my nails and usually go to the same place but was in a rush because I am going away soon. This salon provides quality nail services at very reasonable prices! I used to go to a more expensive place by my apartment, but decided to try Classic Nails because it was close to my work. Turns out they are much better at doing nails, and the gel lasted much longer! Very happy with getting my nails done here. Also, Francis (the owner) is super sweet and talented! I ended up arriving right before the place was closing once and Francis stayed an hour after close just do my nails. Very sweet and I very much appreciated it. They are very quick and efficient , I come here for gel manicures . Place is tiny so it fills up quick but I've never had to wait long . I've come on my lunch break and after work and both times been in and out within an hour. Prices are extremely affordable for manhattan. $30 for gel . They have a lot of colors but the only thing I dislike (the reason I'm knocking off a star) is that all the colors are on display in the bottle, which can make it hard to see the actual color . Great find right near Grand Central station. The nail salon is not big--only 3 pedi chairs--and it was around a 20-minute wait for a Thursday at 2:30. But the staff was very efficient and apologetic about the wait; the salon cleared up as I was there so finding the right time to go is a must. My pedicure looks great and the woman who did it was very nice and thorough. Only $21 for a pedicure, which is really a good price for a New York pedi. Really disappointing. They didn't use the base coat for SNS so my nail chipped the first day for no reason. Wasn't even doing physical activity. I'm very happy with my nails but being a tourist they tried to hustle me for more tip money and one said "not enough" just wanted people to know if you do go to them don't tip them 20% because that's too much and even my hotel concierge said that you just tip them $3-$6 and that's enough. I've been to this place a few times since it's right by where I work. Like the other reviewers said, it's not a place to go and relax, but they do a fast, decent job and for a cheap price (mani+pedi for $23). Cant beat that. My ONLY complaint is that they always ask for the tip BEFORE they paint my nails. Right before painting they ask for payment (fine) but then they always ask for the tip too. I find it really rude to ask for a tip on a service that hasn't even been performed yet. read more

Like everyone on here, they reel you in with the specials. $19.99 for a Mani & Pedi. From beginning to end I was not impressed. They rushed through what was supposed to be a relaxing experience and it showed. This may not be a big deal to some but they did not even have massage chairs at the pedicure station. To make up for that, when I was asked would I like a "lite foot massage" I said sure thinking it would be maybe $10 more. NOPE! It was $32! To add insult to injury the employee tells me I must tip 20%. Out of frustration and just wanting to get out of there I agreed to it, but to my surprise she meant 20% per person who serviced me meaning a $24 tip. Actual costs: Mani (Gel) & Pedi = $30 Horrible foot massage = $32 Tip (40%) = $24.80 Credit Card Surcharge = $1.50 TOTAL = $88.50 The Cheapest Mani Pedi turned out to be the most EXPENSIVE and HORRIBLE!!!!!! By FAR the WORST nail experience of my life, I'm tempted to call my credit card to refuse the charge. The pedicure woman was EATING while giving me a pedicure - i could care less but GROSS. She also barely cut/filed my nails, 1 big toe was completely crooked. The manicurist did the same, told me "cutting my cuticles wasn't good for them" so wouldn't. i picked up the tools and started doing them myself. Basically you pay 23 for a quick polish change, no file, massage, cuticle cut, anything. Whats worse, my toe nail chipped the next day, how cheap are their polishes? my toes usually go weeks without chipping. save yourself and spend $10 more somewhere else.
