You know, I think this place has been in Waldo across the way from the giant horse for a very long time, but I never really acknowledged that it even existed until just a little while ago. So I figured I would give it a try. Pulling up, it is very non-descript. Looks kind of run-down, almost like it isn't open except for the neon sign saying that it is. Walking inside, you are presented with a small room to the left with a couple of booths and a couple of tables to the right, along with a counter with stools in front. I figured the counter was the place to be at a diner like this, so that is where I sat. The staff eventually got to me with a menu, and took my drink order. For my lunch, I went with the burger and an order of fries. They took a while to get out, made fresh (I assume) in the kitchen. I will say that the price is appropriate for the food, and the food is fair. Nothing really outstanding, but not bad either. What really stood out to me however was the general attitude of the staff. It was just... sad. They just didn't want to be there, resented working there in the first place, and had no qualms about showing that in their demeanor to everyone visiting the restaurant. Sadly, what this does is bring down the atmosphere of the place, which means that the guests don't really want to be there either, continuing the downward spiral. Frankly, despite there being so few places to eat in the Waldo area, I will most likely not be returning. I would rather drive up to Starke or down to Gainesville than eat here again. read more

Small, family owned restaurant for breakfast and lunch - closes at 3:00 p.m. Friendly folks; Akai answered questions about the race car displayed, and even allowed a photo. And a breakfast to die for. The country fried steak among the top 10 I've ever had. Eggs and bacon cooked perfectly, biscuits and gravy, and grits just fine. We stopped by the Classic Cafe after a long day at the nearby Waldo Flea Market. It's almost right across the road, so you can't beat convenience. The place has seen better days (probably), so we were a bit worried. The inside is friendly enough, with touches from another time (CRT TV, old race car toys). There are two separate menus: one for breakfast, and one for lunch. We were only brought breakfast menus at first (despite it being noon), and had to ask for the other one. It was maybe a bit frustrating for our server--maybe there was miscommunication on our end-- that two of us wanted lunch and the other wanted breakfast. The food itself was, I feel, fairly priced for the quality. My fries were incredibly oily, but the burger was satisfying. The French toast was a hit; maybe it would have been better to stick to breakfast food. If I went to Waldo again, I wouldn't be eager to go to the Classic Cafe, but I wouldn't rule it out. read more

The outside does not look like it is open, but I ventured inside for a wonderful lunch. The young lady at the counter was excellent, and provided great service! I ordered the Ruben and fries, and it was delicious! I enjoyed the small town feel of the place, and the as I said, the food was great! This is the epitome of great diner food! My family went for lunch, and we ordered burgers, onion rings, French toast, omelets, chicken tenders, milkshakes, and more. Everything was cooked perfectly. It came out quickly and was perfectly hot. The service was amazing (which is so hard to find these days)! It was clean and kid friendly. My little one's ice cream was so cold that just breathing on it made it steam. I wish we lived closer because we would quickly become regulars! I found this little gem on my way home from Starke and so happy! I had a burger and fries, so good (and so was the sweet tea!). I will be returning, in fact I plan on going for breakfast, which is served all day). My server was great... even though I arrived a little under an hour before closing on Saturday, Judy was awesome. Great service, food, and friendly. It is not fancy but clean and a welcomed change from fast food chains. This was my first visit to this spot. They serve breakfast and lunch 7am-3pm daily and until 9pm on Fridays. When walking in you are greeted and welcomed by memorabilia from past decades. Alot of memorabilia of NHRA Drag Racing and Funny Cars. The menu is nice and simple, I ordered the Western Omelet today with Hashbrowns and Biscuit. The omelet was nice and fluffy stuffed with a good amount of veggies and meat. The hashbrowns were cooked just right and the biscuit reminded me of my grandmother's recipe. The coffee had a good flavor also, not sure what brand but it was a nice change. Very friendly, speedy service and did not disappoint. read more

One waitress worked the restaurant waiting tables, cleaning & making shakes, taking orders etc. Our food was made to order and came out piping hot. I had the fish sandwich special with tater tots & tartar sauce. My fish was a large breaded filet that was tender and delicious as were my tater tots hot & crispy. My hubby had a freshly made hamburger cooked medium. His burger was loaded with Swiss cheese & sauté mushrooms & fresh piping hot fries. Our waitress kept our drinks filled. (Water & Diet Pepsi). I also tried a chocolate milkshake- it was as made with milk & chocolate ice cream. Decor is all about stock cars & drag racing. Bathroom appeared clean but was dark due to a lightbulb out over the toilets. Overall the food was far better that expected. read more

Stopped here on the way to Savannah and so glad we did. With our 10 month old so didn't want fast food and there wasn't a ton of options so we settled here not knowing it was going to be so delicious! They did have high chairs but no changing table. Fried jalapeño and ranch was bomb!!! Loved it. I'm picky with ranch and this place did it well. The breading was nice and thin and flavorful. Husband said the fried chicken was pretty good and we both loved the okra and tomatoes as a side. It was almost a little soupy but I really loved it! Not sure if that's how okra and tomatoes are normally bc I'd never had it before today but I would order again. The chicken philly was awesome. Veggies, cheese and chicken were perfect! Well if you wanted Southern Home Cooking, in the southern Diner oh, this would be the place for you. My country fried steak and mashed potatoes and green beans we're just about perfect for a diner, in the middle of nowhere, and I think Mel might have been the cook. The beans were straight out of the can, the steak was medium tough and the mashed potatoes will medium warm. The pepper does help so I had lots of it at least you'll have some flavor. The breading on the steak let's have some nice crunch, and now you know what to expect. I will say the waitress is very nice, very polite, and checks on you pretty regular. The young blond-haired waitress was outstanding. She was polite and had drink refills ready before I even asked. I would come back to this place for her service alone. Now on to the food. Homemade corned beef hash... need I say more. I've only eaten breakfast here, so I can't vouch for their lunch or dinner. The breakfast prices a very reasonable. Average is about $7 for breakfast. My final assessment: ask for the blond-haired server (unfortunately I didn't catch her name), and add the homemade corned beef hash to whatever breakfast that you decide to get. read more

We were staying at the rv park behind the cafe and they were highly recommended. We walked in 1.5 hours before closing and we were not greeted by anyone nor directed to any seats. Eventually we were told to sit wherever and the waitress asked us what we wanted to drink and then walked away abruptly. It's hard to explain but after saying thank you and trying to be personable she just seemed annoyed to be at work. I know it isn't fair to judge a book by its cover but maybe in some cases it's a fair guesstimate. Look elsewhere, there's a reason it's so dilapidated. McDonald's in Starke or el Molina are much better options for the area. Or just wait til Gainesville or Jacksonville for more options. read more

This was our first visit, but won't be our last. We stopped in for a quick bite on the way home to Hawthorne. Mr. Wonderful and I shared an order of fried green tomatoes, the best I have had in a long time. Six thick, succulent and perfectly seasoned slices. So good. Ordered (togo) the catfish lunch special with fries and coleslaw. The fish had a very pungent and foul fish odor, the fries tasted like the oil needed to be changed, and the coleslaw... well, it had no taste really. The only way I can describe its taste is a tasteless scoop of mayo. There weren't any sauces (tartar, cocktail, ketchup, etc.) or plastic-ware/napkins in the bag. The waitess came back and refilled our drinks and approx 25 mins still didnt have our food..approx.35 mins later the waitress came with our food..Keep in mind this resturant was not busy at all..before she lefted from delivering our food to us i asked for more coffee she rolled her eyes and said yea. Never came back to ask if our food was ok or if we needed anything which comes to the next subject which is the quality and taste of the food.. I ordered the biscuits and gravy it is the same quality and taste that you would get from a McDonald's restaurant meaning the biscuits or pre-made ahead of time in our Frozen and the gravy is a white gravy that is Bland and tastes would you have to add salt and pepper to it it's what you would get from a pack or a plastic say that's already pre-made up. Again their biscuits and gravy tastes like something you would get from McDonald's not what I was expecting from Classic Cafe.. I tried some onion rings from my boyfriend that he had on his place and it is the same batter that they use on their green fried tomatoes the onion rings were lightly coated which made the breading once it was deep-fried easily fall off the onions themselves were not a good thickness for onion rings when you think of a onion ring you think of big Rings a sweet taste for no onions and a slice thickness of toting slightly golden brown when they're deep fried not the case here Classic Cafe.. my daughter gave me a bite of her chicken tenders the chicken was a very dark golden colors the chicken itself to meat was not juicy it was actually dry.
