I booked an appointment over a week ago to have a haircut for Friday at 5PM with someone named Noah V. As I am heading to the barbershop I get a text message about booking with another "open" barber at 4:07. He says he didn't know his book was open. You would think if you make a living off haircuts that would be your main priority is to keep you book on point. Sounds like someone just wanted to leave early on Friday. What a waste of time, this is very unprofessional. Worse yet I called the shop to see what the deal was and no one else would offer to help me. The guy even pretended not to know Noah. worst customer service ever. I have a photo shoot with my family tomorrow and now gotta take my chances waiting in line somewhere else. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. Get it together classic barbershop. read more

Classic Barber Shop - Text conversation with clueless barber. - Barbers Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

I suggest you take my review with a grain of salt. (Can you take a review with a grain of salt?) I only visited once, an off day for the shop, when just two of their in-house barbers were around, and I waited a long, long time for a cut. In fact, no, here's how you should take this review: as useful. If you show up and the place is understaffed, ask them for an honest ETA. About one hour after I'd sat down to wait my turn -- no joke -- one of the barbers apologized, handed me change for the parking meter, and explained that, as a barber collective in the Old School tradition, if staff are a no-show, the whole shop suffers. Couple that with the customers who make appointments, and a guy like me, thinking he'll be next, may wait an exceptionally long while. In the end, I got a pretty good cut at a very fair price, I waited way too long, and as one reviewer states, I listened to plenty of Old School barber shop talk which, personally, is exactly what I like to hear when the clippers are buzzing. read more

Classic is a great barbershop! Make an appointment with Mark! All the guys cut great and will make you look good! Definitely a must for your next cut! They also have product to buy their too including Johnny B and Suavitco! My favorites! read more

I have had AJ cut my hair twice now, and he is always a lot of fun to chat up and does a wonderful job. I prefer to go to places I'd feel comfortable taking my 10 year old son, and this is definitely one of them. It's clean, professional, and a respectful environment. I'll be back! read more

I really appreciate a good barber shop, and this place is definitely a good shop. I find barber shop etiquette quite interesting. I grew up going to more salon like places, so transitioning to a barber shop was interesting. I've always found it strange that there's really no one to greet you, no one to ask what you want, how long the wait is going to be, or any of the above. You just walk in, sit down, and they get to you when they get to you. Okay, tangent about typical barber shops is over. However, I appreciate the professionalism of Classic Barber Shop. They actually greet you when you walk in, and they're good about getting you in and out as fast as possible. There's usually not much of a wait and when there has been, it's not long. I've been going for a few months, and a few of the barbers have remembered me and my cut. We've had conversations about random topics and they actually remember; I think that's pretty cool. Most importantly, the cut is always consistent. I never have to explain much, and they always get it spot on. If there's anything you aren't happy with, they will spend however long making sure they get it just right. I watched another customer have the barber add finishing touches for almost an hour, and the barber had all the patience in the world. I'll continue to visit this shop due to the high quality of work and the professionalism of the staff. read more

Great haircut and shape up on my beard. Ricardo is a great barber and provided some great feedback and was spot on. This will be my regular spot in Albuquerque. The prices are very good and worth every cent. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

Alright, first off I moved to ABQ from SoCal a little over year ago and haven't had time to get a cut. You can imagine how long my mop got. I'm prettty particular with my style of cut--tight but not too tight on the sides, natural part with a pomp, and then a taper in the back--and that's partial why I haven't found a barber. It's time consuming researching a decent barber! After a quick yelp search I decided to give Classic a try. I grabbed my phone at 5am I booked an appointment to meet with Fabian just four hours later, right with the shop opened. I have a busy, unpredictable schedule and needed to get in there real quick. To be honest, I thought the appointment was going to fall through because of when I booked it and the short notice. However, it wasn't an issue at all! I got their a few minutes early and was warmly welcomed inside by Fabian. The shop is nice; plenty of seating for waiting customers, but also plenty of barber chairs, so I don't imagine anyone would wait long. There's a service bar where they sell quality pomades: suavetico, lay rite, bona fide, as well as beverages and other hair products. There's a slushy machine. There's some awesome artwork on the walls, including a beautiful piece that captures the amazing Albuquerque skyline at sunset. In the chair, Fabian asked what I wanted. I told him my desired cut and he said, "Alright, I got you." Let me tell you, Fabian's demeanor is welcoming, he strikes up good conversation, and he frequently stopped to show me the progress of the cut--which made me feel comfortable since it was my first time in his chair. At the end, I left with a more than quality cut and some pomade. I definitely recommend this shop as the price for a cut is more than affordable. If the rest of the barbers are anything like Fabian, then I don't see anyone ever being disappointed with the service. But Fabian has my business! read more

Just moved to Albuquerque and this was my first visit. This will be my stop from now on. Couldn't be happier. P.S. my wife took our kids here last weekend and we had the same good experience. We went here on a friend's recommendation and we couldn't be happier. read more

Pretty decent conversation with the barber, but bad haircut. I had to try to fix it myself the next day since I couldn't make it back before their closing time. read more

I first called before showing up at the Classic Barbershop and spoke to Mark. They are only taking clients by appointment. He said I can schedule on line and gave me the website info. I did so and got an appointment that afternoon on a Friday. (Awesome) I then show up about 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment as Mark cut a another customers hair. He then asked who I was scheduled to meet and if I got a email verification. I told him I didn't get a email response but when I went back into the site I noticed that the time I scheduled was now not available so assumed I got the time block. Mark then tried reaching my assigned Barber to no avail. Mark apologized and said they have been having some glitches with the app. So I left and sat in my vehicle for a minute or two thinking about a plan B. Then Mark approached my vehicle and said his next appointment didn't show and that he could take me. I was more than happy to take the offer as I saw his work on the the previous customer. Besides palm B was looking pretty dismal since it was a Friday afternoon. Mark didn't disappoint and in fact he did an excellent job. Well when I walked out the first time I thought it was going to be my last time. It is now turned out to be my favorite Barbershop and Barber. BTW THE shop is cool and recently remodeled. The other big concern for me was the safe practice and wearing of masks during these unsettling times. I'm not sure about you but three months without a hair cut then a turn of events sure put me in better spirits. Thanks Mark! read more

Edited: After growing my hair out for 2 years, I finally decided to get a more professional cut. I spend about an hour looking at reviews of everywhere in town for men's haircut and this place consistently had nothing but 5 star reviews. I cannot speak for anyone else as it would seem that most of the barbers here are very good according to the reviews, but this is only my experience. I called and made a same-day appointment with Ricardo for 12:30 and when I showed up, he was under the impression it was for 1 pm. I wasn't in a rush, so I elected to wait but they did offer another barber if I was in a hurry. I showed him 4 examples of hair styles I wanted and emphasized that I wanted the top to remain long. I told him to let me know if at any point he wished to see any of the pictures again and he said he was good. Distracted by Ice Age II that was playing, I wasn't aware of the amount of hair he was taking off the top until it was too late. I don't know if it was inexperience or he is not used to being asked for a haircut that is not as traditional for this area, but he took off probably 6" more than he should have from the top, which will take probably a year to grow back. He was minorly apologetic and didn't charge me but I was still distraught. Luckily I had it fixed at a salon down the road. read more

Worst haircut I ever had from there. I didn't get the hair style that I asked for which I was disappointed, So I ended up having someone else fix it up to the style that I wanted. read more

To find the best barbers in town you'll need to find the best barbershop! Classic barbershop located just off of historical Route 66 is definitely that shop! Inside you'll find a warm and inviting atmosphere as well as a very dedicated and experienced staff. For a cut above the rest ask for John Gurule, John has provided truly exceptional service and even greater haircuts taking classic barbering to a professional level! read more

Terrible place. The entire time I was there I only found negative aspects. To start they did not sanitize any tools between clients. They also insulted my hair the entire haircut. The theme of the conversation was not family friendly. Talking about adult topics in a supposedly family friendly environment. Never will I go here again and I will advise anyone I know to stay away. read more

I been coming here since 2015 and my man Ricardo is the best barber out there. He is an awesome guy. and the other guys in the shop are cool. I highly recommend coming here! read more

Best haircut I've gotten in ABQ, hands down! This is a great little shop in the heart of downtown with a really nice staff who takes the time to give you the haircut you really want! I felt welcomed and had no waiting time. They also made me feel like they appreciated my business. Can't wait to go back less " read more

I had pretty decent haircut today. My barber was friendly and polite. I am definitely going back to this barber shop.

Fabian Banuelos gave me a hot lather shave and a dope as phuuuuuuuuuuk haircut worthy only of a big star movie producer! Master Barber Banuelos repaired that nasty azz haircut I received in Phoenix from Artem at A&D Barbersop. Fabian was cordial, to the point, CLEAN, and VERY professional. Gawd I only wish you worked at the awesome Center Barbershop in Santa Fe. When in Albuquerque and in need or want of a hot lather shave and most awesome haircut, visit Fabian Banuelos @ Classic Barbershop!!! Prices are very fair and the wait was not long. I've already booked an on-line appointment in two weeks. read more

Decent haircut at a good price. The haircut was not exactly what I wanted, so I won't be returning.

This is definitely my #1 recommended barbershop in ABQ when it comes to affordability, location, friendliness, and professionalism. Not only do they have one of the top barbers in the Southwest in John Gurule, but the atmosphere within in the shop makes anyone feel right at home. If you're new to the area and looking for an affordable, high quality haircut make sure to check this place out! read more

I keep reviewing this place but for some reason YELP isn't giving them or my reviews the respect they deserve! I love this shop! I took my son there just last week and they worked their miracle like always! They transformed my hairy son into the handsome beast he truly is. They are honest, funny and professional. It is a family friendly environment, where young men create an old school feeling of belonging for young and old. They use and sell awesome hair products and they even sell snacks! We don't go anywhere else! Hopefully YELP allows my review to go on the page so others can know about this hidden gem downtown! read more

This is a fantastic place to get clipped. He spent a lot of time on my hair with both clippers and scissors and was always getting my opinion as he went how I wanted things done. Finishes up with a straight razor in my sideburns and neck. Very professional. read more

Found Classics on Yelp and was not disappointed. I got my cut from Fabian and he was on point and professional. I appreciated him being confident in his skills and making recommendations that resulted in an awesome haircut. I can't recommend him enough and I will be back because of my experience with him. Overall, the shop is spacious and clean... TVs along the wall. 5 stars! read more

Such a great shop, the perfect mix of professional and laid back. All the barbers are friendly and welcoming, and best of all there are usually 4-5 barbers on duty so there's rarely much of a wait. From what I've seen, all the barbers do great work too! I have seen a wide range of cuts come out and all have looked sharp. I always appreciate the time they take to ensure that you are satisfied with your cut. I will certainly continue to go to Classic as my regular shop. read more

The people here seem very nice, and if you want a haircut just like the one the barbers all have then you're in the right place. If that's not what you want you might end up as unhappy as I did. Seems like this is the sort of place where they only really know how to do variations on one particular cut. In this case that cut is the Albuquerque-ubiquitous modified-prison-flattop. The sides of your head will be nearly shaven straight up, the corners of the flattop will be rounded off, and you will be given the choice of how long to leave hair on top, which can also be nearly-shaven or left in an extravagant banana or anything in between. The tattooed young man who cut my hair seemed to listen carefully to my description of the haircut I wanted, but when we discussed it later as we tried to fix what he'd done it became clear that his mind had transmogrified my description into a simple variation of the modified-prison-flattop. I don't believe he did this on purpose, I was just in the wrong barber shop. read more
