So I'm actually sitting in Clarkson writing this while my mom is recovering from surgery, and I couldn't be happier (that is, I couldn't be happier considering my mom just had surgery). The staff here is unreal. I've been to a LOT of hospitals (thanks, autoimmune disorder!) and I have never experienced this level of care. THE NURSES HERE ARE AWESOME. Every nurse who has been on shift for my mom has been super cheerful, accommodating, and skilled. I mean, I ask some weird dorky question about why some machine is beeping away, and they can actually explain to me in amazingly clear terms exactly what a Foley catheter is and why a straight catheter is a temporary solution. Even beyond these amazing human beings are the techs - have you ever had a burly man cheerfully locate a pull out bed for you to sleep on while explaining what different respiratory rehabilitation devices do? Unreal.
More than that, these people actually seem to care. I've had some real dick nurses (MOUNT SINAI I'M LOOKING AT YOU) and it's almost as if Clarkson gets its staff from a magical cloud of special elves from the planet where the Care Bears live. No joke. Before I came here I pretty much didn't know that nurses weren't just those pissy sighing people who wait an hour to answer your call button and refuse to learn your name or make eye contact while telling you they don't know where your migraine medicine is and you should have just brought some from home.
FURTHERMORE the facilities are clean and seem well maintained and did I mention the staff because I want to hug them all and then give them each a million dollars. HOW ARE YOU SMILING AND JOKING WHILE EMPTYING A CATHETER BAG AT 4 IN THE MORNING?!? Magic. Magic people from the planet of sunshine and ponies. Love them. Even the security guards are friendly! And the reception people! And the dude who greets you! And the housekeeping staff! EVEN AT 2 IN THE MORNING! What?!
That said, one lady in the gift store's a complete bitch, but I think she was just giving me the side-eye because of my ever-so-scary tattoos (which mean I am a dangerous, thieving ex-con so you'd better hide those Precious Moments figurines!).
Anyway, I'm relieved my Mom is here because these people are amazing and glorious, and I'd seriously consider getting on a plane to Omaha the next time I'm gravely ill because this place is so effing fantastic. read more
