If you are looking for formal and smart shoes then it's worth paying a visit to Gordon Scott. They…read moreregularly have sales on and the quality of the shoes make it worth the decent price that you pay. The shoe shop has been around for as long as I can remember and their styles have changed but now they currently just sell smart and formal shoes. I think the style of the shop matches what they specialise in but also makes me feel a bit sad every time I visit because it is very dull and boring. It feels as if the shop needs some stylish decor to compliment the shoes and generally make the shop look less bland. On the other hand there aren't many other shops in Solihull that specialise in formal and smart shoes. So maybe they're doing something right? Due to its good location, this is where I come if I need my shoes to help make a good impression. Plus I love the little monkey they have in the window. Overall I think you would have to like Gordon Scott's shoe styles in order to like anything else here.

Several popular big-name brands like Timberland, Converse and Hush Puppies are always available and Gordon Scott also stocks plush designer brands Ted Baker. Expectedly, everything in here is quite pricey, but the classy, elegant atmosphere inside is heart-warming to say the least and the laid-back staff never seem to jump on, or stare at browsers, so even if you're just window shopping, you're sure for a pleasant experience. If designer labels are your thing and your pockets are deep, you'll be in your element here.

I won't shop with them again…read more I'd briefly scooted around the Edinburgh branch and thought the shoes seemed both pleasant and comfortable so headed out to Solihull to try some on at my leisure. Average age in the store is approximately 75. They seem to be trying to target the younger age group but aren't doing very well. I felt positively paediatric. I was waiting ages and ages to be served and when they eventually stopped ignoring me, they didn't have my size. Great! I tried on the too-small ones so that I kind of knew which size to order online. At the time of ordering there was a 3 for 2 so I chose a pair of shoes for a wedding, a pair of boots and a pair of work shoes as well as a pair of purple sale shoes. Delivery is £3.95, regardless of size of order. Returns are £2.99, exchanges free. They emailed me a while later saying their website stock was wrong and the work shoes would be delayed by a couple of weeks. When part 1 of the delivery arrived, it did *not* contain my purple shoes but instead some hideous green Granny type horrors. That was an annoying trip to the post office that I could have done without. The shoes they erroneously told me were in stock were delayed again and eventually showed up maybe a month after my order. Meanwhile, they'd tried to tell me that I made the mistake. I didn't. I didn't like them so decided to return them. My refund was...zero. Apparently they decided that it was my "free" pair and therefore I get nothing. I'm sure that could be argued, but most decent companies will refund the average price paid. In fact, I even have a Primark (Primark of all places!) receipt in front of me saying they do exactly that. Customer services were unhelpful and just don't care. There is no such thing as goodwill or customer retention in their operations. They just can't be bothered. Take your money (for the overpriced shoes) and run. It's Hush Puppies and Clarks for me from now on. Cheaper, equivalent quality and far superior service.

She told me to bring back as many as I needed and so I took 6 pairs back (thank goodness for my card account other wise the purchases would have broken the bank)! The shop happily accepted the 6 returns and were pleased I had found what I wanted. When I returned the shoes there was an offer - 2 pairs of sandals for £95. I bought 2 pairs, each separately would cost £75. What a bargain, and they're soooo comfortable. Oh, and I am definitely NOT over-the-hill - the shoes are modern wedge sandals in attractive colours and material!

House of Fraser in Solihull is a fairly good store, one of two large department stores in the town…read more While I prefer John Lewis at Touchwood, this certainly is not a bad alternative, offering some competition within the town's high-street. The store is a little dated, and seemed very quiet - this seems to be something that has came up in many other reviews. It makes me think if people are visiting and claim it's quiet - do we all turn into ghosts when we visit here? Perhaps they should call it House Of Kasper? The product selection was fine, again there is better within the town centre, the store did feel a little old, in need of TLC and like it was on its' last legs anyway. I'm surprised this store remained open despite many closures within House of Fraser. The staff in the store seemed friendly enough. 3*

How amazing! I would never have thought to look for wool in house of Fraser, and I definitely never thought I would get reasonably priced wool there lol. So I thought I would share my brilliant find so that my fellow knitters can get an early start on their Christmas presents this year :-)

The staff like to have a natter with the customers, offer them a hot drink if they're having a good mooch and often give discounts if you buy more than one item. There aren't many places to buy quality vintage clothing for men so Top Banana has an edge over most other shops. The focus is mainly American vintage from the 60s-70s and the majority of the stock reflects this, but they have everything from 40s to 90s - you just need to have a good rummage! Fans of converse and vans if you haven't heard of Top Banana where have you been?! They have LOADS and prices range from £15-£25. Prices are very reasonable but don't expect bargain basement prices like £1 etc.. this is quality merchandise which would set you back a pretty penny down south! Grab it while you can before someone else does! While you're here pop next door to Cherry Reds for some yummy food or two doors down to Polar Bear Records,

They have some really nice stuff, some of it I imagine would make you look like Tony Soprano, a 70s mobster or Dirk Diggler. Their range is enormous for a small shop - from vintage varsity, leather and demin jackets to knitwear, polos and an array of slick shirts. All of the items I have bought from Top Banana have a timeless quality about them that only get better with age. With Top Banana you're guaranteed to get some fine clothing for a fair price that even a young Jean-Paul Belmondo would give a nod of approval to.You will leave a (fashion) law unto yourself, swaggering like a don, whistling 'ain't no stopping us now' and ready to share your new-found slickness with the world. At least I did.
