They are filling and very cheap. Staff are very nice. I went in looking for their delectable apple turnovers and, since they were out, offered to put some leftover cream in another one of their pastries for me. Cannot recommend enough.

I dragged Stu out of his festering pit and we made our way to Grant's the Bakers. I had passed it several times while sprinting for the train and the smell emanating from the bakery almost caused me to forget all about the train and go and live in there. Hot rolls and hot drinks are available to take away at very reasonable prices. At 10.30 on a Sunday, the queue was out the door and spilling untidily onto the street. Builders, locals and hungover tramps waited patiently in front of the cake filled counter and sizzling hotplate of over-processed meats. The smell was fantastic. Thanks to the two wee wummin behind the counter the queue moved quickly. We bought 6 totty scones and hastened home to fry them! They were big, misshapen and had an almost meaty bite to them. This makes them high up there in my Totty Scone Hall of Fame. Yes, I do actually have a Totty Scone Hall of Fame. I am rather a freak, I do fear. Next time I think I'll go for an iced donut.

It's not my ideal location for afternoon tea as it's loud and busy but it didn't bother us as we weren't there for the atmosphere. The two ladies working there were really friendly and took our drinks orders quickly. We both ordered tea. I love the tea a Patisserie Valerie because it's loose leaf and served in a suki teapot. We decided to sit outside and watch people go by. It was a Saturday afternoon so very busy. Our food came really quickly. I was very pleased to see scones and real clotted cream. We were also given a selection of mini jam jars which was a nice touch. Sandwiches were also really nice. The cakes on top weren't bad but it wasn't something I'd personally choose, except for maybe the chocolate one. I'm saying a-okay because I felt the tables were too small, and also the tables didn't appear to have been wiped down in a while. The staff didn't really come outside to clear things away when others had left either. But I'd say overall fast friendly service and yummy food!

I bought a coffee and a box of macarons to take to the meeting. The coffee curing my hangover and the macarons made my colleagues even happier than I expected. They were delcious, sweet, cruncy, smooth and light. Everything a good macaron should be. So lets call that a 5 star experience. The sitting in occasion was slightly less perfect. I ordered a latte and a frangipane tart and I took a seat. There were a few other people in the cafe but it was far from busy. The staff were nice enough and my order arrived relatively quickly. Unfortunately my coffee was awful. It's not often that I abandon caffeine but this time I was forced to. The tart was ok - I'd order it again but it wouldn't go to the top of the list. So lets call that a 3 star experience. I guess that's why on balance it gets four stars. Realistically, that sounds about right. I hope the nasty coffee was a one off because I'm bound to be temped back in by the cakes soon enough.

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

On my visit I didn't know what the shop was called as there was no sign above the door, theirs is a pretty small place where there is a few seats on the shop floor and more seating upstairs. A few items weren't labelled and had to guess what everything was, l bought a latte & a raspberry muffin that ended up being a red currant muffin. There was a few customers that came in to buy the last remaining bread, I did notice that the labels where written in Polish and not English, maybe this was to help the girl at the counter who was learning the language it did cause confusion with the person that was buying the bread as they didn't know what bread it was. I felt here was a language barrier as the server had little English and a customer came in looking to buy two bottles of balsamic dressing, I could see at least 8 bottles on the shelf, she said that they had sold out, l pointed out the mistake. It's an ok place to visit, but more of a take away sort of place than to sit in.

I think this is a much-needed addition to the area as Finnieston is strangely lacking in cafes/coffee shops (aside from The Steamie). I popped in for a super quick visit to get a bite to take away and had to get the churros when I saw them. I just got one and it was excellent - fresh & delicious and a good snack to eat on the move. They had a sign suggesting if you were eating in you should get it with a hot chocolate which I'll definitely be doing next time. Seb & Mili also do loaves of bread, hot meals, pastries, coffee, tea, soup, sandwiches, donuts - they manage to do a lot in the small space and I will definitely be back for a proper sit-in visit very soon.

I first met Rachel at the BBC Good Food Show, where she showed me how to pipe icing properly. When I heard she was opening up, I couldn't have been more excited. Even more so when I found out just how close it was to me. (So much so I have been for the past 2 Saturdays and am most likely going twice this weekend...) This is a bakery, selling cake, cupcakes, tray bakes, teas, coffees and soft drinks. There are a variety of gluten free options available. The bakery is through the back, so the place smells of cake permanently. I've sampled both the red velvet and salted caramel cupcakes. The red velvet was gorgeous, although I loved the salted caramel cupcake more. The centre was filled with ooey gooey caramel. The tea was better than the coffee, coming in individual gorgeous glass teapots. A cup of earl grey is the perfect accompaniment to a piece of cake. I love the quirky antique sets that everything gets served in. Rachel also does custom cakes and cupcakes for all occasions, ranging from weddings, birthdays to graduations. The bakery accepts cash and cards. No outdoor seating (yet!)
