My daughter and I had a terrible experience here this week. Our dentist personally referred us, with a written note, that he was unsure if my daughter needed a root canal. He really could not tell, and she never complained about pain, unless when asked about sensitivity to heat or cold. Because she's had some memory difficulty due to an accident, she asks me to come along to new doctors so she doesn't forget to fully inform the doctor of her symptoms. Well, I scheduled the appointment for a "consultation" NOT a root canal. I could tell right away that the secretary did not like this. She said, "well that's $150 and it's not covered by insurance , and if Dr. Clarke DOES do the "treatment " (they NEVER use the phrase "root canal", frequently prompting me to ask "what treatment are you referring to?") the $150 is NOT deducted from the bill." I said no problem at all, after all we don't want unnecessary procedures done. Well when we arrived, they had her sign consents for the root canal, and I said whoa, this is only a CONSULT. Also, when she checked the box asking if she wants nitrous oxide, the secretary was dismayed, as though it was an inconvenience to them (obviously because anesthesia requires additional monitoring) and said "well you know that costs extra and is NOT covered by insurance ." Then, when they called my daughter back, they would not let me go with her, despite the fact that we both insisted that I need to. They refused, but said that they would just take her for an x-ray, then call me BEFORE the doctor examined her. Well, when they finally let me in there, he had already talked to her and finished his examination. When I tried to set my purse and cup down (I am disabled and cannot hold things long at all) Dr. Clarke said "don't bother setting those things down, you won't be here long". I was appalled. He spent exactly 15 seconds talking to me and ushered me out of the exam room. Big ego. Then as I checked out, my debit card was declined (their scanners error, plenty of money in our bank) and the staff was snickering and not too subtly! It was the single worst experience I've ever had in a physicians office, ever. I came home and immediately called our dentist and informed him of this horrible experience. Dr. Clarke's office is set up like a McDonald's drive-thru for endodontic patients. As long as what you need is on the menu, no problem. But don't deviate, don't ask questions, and you may be fine. I don't know because WE'RE never going back! read more
