I signed my son up for ECEC's free half day preschool. I was NOT impressed. First of all, I will…read moresay, the director is awesome. He obviously loves his job and knows all the kids' names. My son was only there a week and he greeted him every morning when he came in. Unfortunately the rest of the staff doesn't seem to share his enthusiasm. The center seems fairly safe. There is a fingerprint system for parents to enter the building (Although mine never worked during the week we were there. I reminded the secretary every day and she acted like it was the first time she was hearing this info each day.) I had my concerns from the beginning because this is a grant funded program. They were adamant about children attending five days a week (which I think is a little too much for first time students, but I thought I would give it a shot in case my son loved it.) There was no real orientation, only a meet and greet with the teacher, but we were never told what the classroom schedule would look like. The teacher in the half day program was very "strange," to put it best. She never talked to me when I came in. I had to pry information out of her - like what they did that day and how my son was doing. (He was the youngest in the class and had never been in a classroom setting before.) After I withdrew my child from the program he talked about being put in time out - I'm not opposed to him being disciplined, but I would've liked to have known when it happened and what happened so we could talk about it at home. My son also has food allergies and I found out on day three they were still serving him real milk instead of the substitute I was bringing for him. Later I was told the teacher informed the director she had discussed the situation with me and "tried to talk me out of" withdrawing my child from the program. This never happened. That just made me feel better about my decision. If you need a DAYCARE I think this will probably suffice. If you're looking for an actual PRESCHOOL I don't think this is the place for you. They brag about being the only 4 star preschool center in the Springfield area but I don't see them listed on the JFS website at all.

This daycare seems to be the best in Springfield, OH...at first glance. The star thing they tout…read moreand the teachers having degrees is what they pride themselves on, but it means nothing. Most of the time, students are taking care of children. Our daughter seemed distraught to go there after a few weeks. They would close whenever Clark State or schools around them would leaving parents to fend for themselves for childcare. Most people don't care because only a small few actually pay for the daycare, others get government assistance. After closing several days in a row, while other daycares were open, we knew this because we toured the daycares, we switched. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look for a daycare elsewhere unless you HAVE to use them. IF you HAVE to use them, then I am sorry.
