The school only went to kinder so I had to tour schools to find the one that worked with her personality. I toured at least 10 elementary schools, some religious, some other Merryhill Schools and some public schools. Public school classes are so large and I knew it wasn't for us. Curriculum is huge to me and Merryhill is pretty unbeatable in the area. I toured a Merryhill closer to me but didn't get "that feeling". When I toured Durango fireworks went off! I know that sounds strange but the feels are unbelievable in this school! I was a stranger but every staff member welcomed my family and especially my daughter. Principals are a huge part of a school community and I've been blessed with the best at Merryhill! This location is ran by Kim Roden and she will move mountains for our kids. Her personality is 1 in a million and the teachers and staff are the same . We are half way thru this school year and I know I made the right choice. Merryhill is worth's ore than a 5 star review and if you tour here you will see that too!!

Each year, I am completely blown away by the level of talent, creativity, and effort that goes into every performance. From the set design to the costumes, the music, and the choreography, everything is executed so professionally, yet with a warmth and joy that only a school production can bring. I know firsthand how much work it takes to put on a show like this, and I truly admire the dedication, patience, and passion of all the teachers, staff, and volunteers who make it possible. Watching the kids shine on stage is such a rewarding experience, and it's clear that they are learning so much--confidence, teamwork, and a love for the arts. I am so grateful to everyone involved for creating such memorable experiences for the students and the audience alike. Judith Steel Elementary School sets a high standard for school productions, and it's inspiring to see the time, energy, and heart that go into these shows. Keep up the amazing work--you are making a real difference in these kids' lives, and it shows in every performance!

As a newly 3 year old, they showed kindness and compassion as he started, believed him when our year started out a little rocky and encouraged and nurtured his amazing growth this year. We are grateful for the high expectations, clear structure and routine and keeping the care in education that bring us trust and peace of mind that our son is safe, learning, and thriving!

My daughter has wrapped up her first year of preschool and I'm happy to report that everything I…read moresaid a year ago held true about the administrators and then some. I don't think I could have asked for better teachers than Ms. Julie and Ms. Vichiny for the care and support they have shown not only my daughter, but all of the students in classroom 101 last year. Special thanks to Ms. Elly and Ms. Francesca for all they did to keep the momentum going throughout the summer too! As for the substantive education my daughter received, all I can say is that it was great watching her grow this past year thanks in large part to Challenger. The quality of education here is wonderful. Their well-rounded curriculum not only balances your child's core subjects with art, Spanish, play time (there's a lot of play time, especially during extended care :)), and of course, nap time, but it is done in a seemingly fun way--the Challenger way. My daughter loves singing their songs so much I ended up buying the Challenger Phonics Fun set that included songs that I digitized so I can play them in the car for her on our drives. It's a nice break from the Disney stuff, and includes video lessons to help her take what she was taught in her classroom back home with her. I'm happy to say we're back for kindergarten and after my daughter's first day (which I was nervous about), she alleviated my nerves when I picked her up and told me how much fun she had with Ms. Henderson and Ms. Wheatley. We're looking forward to another great year at Challenger.

Overall though, they seem pretty decent and want your child to succeed, even offering free after school tutoring. Some were very quick to respond to emails, some you would wait 1-2 days before hearing anything back. As far as homework load, that seemed fairly balanced. My child didn't have much trouble getting it done. My only suggestion would to be to switch up the semester Science projects. It was the exact same packet and project choices, for five years. They never did anything different and by grade 8, my child was mind numbingly bored with the same options. Next: bullying and drugs. Bullying is absolutely not tolerated here. Shout out to the Vice Principal, Mrs. Chipman, whom nips it in the bud with a quickness. They also have zero tolerance when it comes to drugs and are swift to react to any incidents. So high kudos for that. School events; a few are themed and very cute, others thrown together with very little thought (especially this last year). There would be only a couple days notice to the day before the event. It was strange. Graduation for 8th grades was not well executed either; no enforcement on the 4 tickets limit given so everyone that wanted to, attended (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, you name it). They ran out of seating quickly due to this. It was unfair to those that followed the guidelines and they never addressed it. For a school that is so stringent with kids regarding rules, that was a bit disappointing to see. Next up, the front office... if you're lucky enough to catch them on a good day, they can be very helpful but again, that is a mixed experience. Catch them on (regular) bad days and they are dismissive, short, and rude. As someone who has to make calls throughout the day at my job -and- taking in consideration that I'm sure they deal with a few unpleasant parents, I'm always polite, not once ever calling with an attitude. It doesn't seem to matter. And God help you if you get ahold of Alisha; the rudest, most foul tempered of the lot. How she still works there is absolutely beyond me. If I spoke to clients the way she does to parents, I'd be fired in an instant. It got to the point that if I heard her voice answer, I would just hang up and try again later. Last but not least, the emails. I get that they need to keep people informed but the frequency that they send them is just obscene. I'm not joking. It's -at least- three times a week and the timing is so random. Sometimes you'll get them at 2pm and sometimes you'll get them at 5pm, 7pm, and up to 9pm. Weekends aren't safe either. They really need to learn to reel that in with designated frequency, days, and times. It gets overwhelming quick and it's easy to miss updates. Overall, it's an okay school but needs some restructuring, especially the front office staff.

We repeatedly had to follow up ourselves, as communication was extremely limited and we struggled to get consistent updates on his enrollment status or start date. When he finally began attending, he was placed in the incorrect grade, and we were not informed until later that he would need to be moved to a lower grade. The administration took little accountability, stating they were simply following directions from another department. The school did not proactively contact us until I escalated the issue to the regional office and filed a complaint. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone and I would strongly recommend avoiding this school.
