would and would not recommend i attended that school for 9 years and would rate it a 6/10. teachers…read moreare alright. once middle school came the school became a 3 out of 10. dress code became harsher but only for taller and thicker girls. teachers constantly favorited boys. teachers thought it was cool to make kids cry but it would be the end of the world when they cried. admin did not care for the students story. an admin staff member quite literally told me to tell her insight on my best friends. only certain groups of students were getting in trouble. male students would throw pencils across the room at each other while the teachers back is turned and would have no punishment yet if a female student was calling her friend from the other side of the room she would get sent to the office for "being too loud" male student would grab playground ball's that were being played with and would kick/throw it out the fence; they never got in trouble instead they were told to do pushups or go and grab the ball. at lunch my friend group wanted to sit at a table and we got there first and we sat down. the boys complained and said we would alternate sitting there in days so we didn't get to sit there that day because it was their day. the boys got there first but it was our day to sit there and the admin that handled the issue said "first come first serve" now that we're on the lunch topic mrs.bliss had the biggest issue with our lunch table. we would arrive in the lunch room set or lunch boxes on our table and we would go to the restrooms to wash our hands, she had the biggest issue with us washing our hands without asking, so we started asking. after we would all stand up hold hands and pray, she had a problem with us standing at our table. so we got that issue sorted out and were able to stand. she would always find another problem. once the rule that students didn't have to go to lunch and could just go to recess was enforced i stopped going to lunch because of all of the problems she would come up with. the boys would yell inappropriate things out loud while standing but would not get in trouble. the only reason this review is a 3 is because of the people i met along the way. i have had friendships that have lasted for a decade and i am so glad i have had the opportunity to make those friendships. another reason are some teachers although many of them don't teach there anymore i am so grateful i once got to learn from them ! i personally wouldn't go there again (not that it's possible) or recommend it to any one i know.

Teachers favored boys. A teacher would be racist and sexist and the admin didn't care because "she taught well". The lunch lady is rude and got so mad at me for not having my card despite knowing my pin that I would just not eat lunch because I was scared of getting in trouble. My sole reason for going there was to be with my friends. Otherwise I would not want to go. The curriculum is also behind other schools which I had noticed when I started geometry and other classes in high school.

Overall though, they seem pretty decent and want your child to succeed, even offering free after school tutoring. Some were very quick to respond to emails, some you would wait 1-2 days before hearing anything back. As far as homework load, that seemed fairly balanced. My child didn't have much trouble getting it done. My only suggestion would to be to switch up the semester Science projects. It was the exact same packet and project choices, for five years. They never did anything different and by grade 8, my child was mind numbingly bored with the same options. Next: bullying and drugs. Bullying is absolutely not tolerated here. Shout out to the Vice Principal, Mrs. Chipman, whom nips it in the bud with a quickness. They also have zero tolerance when it comes to drugs and are swift to react to any incidents. So high kudos for that. School events; a few are themed and very cute, others thrown together with very little thought (especially this last year). There would be only a couple days notice to the day before the event. It was strange. Graduation for 8th grades was not well executed either; no enforcement on the 4 tickets limit given so everyone that wanted to, attended (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, you name it). They ran out of seating quickly due to this. It was unfair to those that followed the guidelines and they never addressed it. For a school that is so stringent with kids regarding rules, that was a bit disappointing to see. Next up, the front office... if you're lucky enough to catch them on a good day, they can be very helpful but again, that is a mixed experience. Catch them on (regular) bad days and they are dismissive, short, and rude. As someone who has to make calls throughout the day at my job -and- taking in consideration that I'm sure they deal with a few unpleasant parents, I'm always polite, not once ever calling with an attitude. It doesn't seem to matter. And God help you if you get ahold of Alisha; the rudest, most foul tempered of the lot. How she still works there is absolutely beyond me. If I spoke to clients the way she does to parents, I'd be fired in an instant. It got to the point that if I heard her voice answer, I would just hang up and try again later. Last but not least, the emails. I get that they need to keep people informed but the frequency that they send them is just obscene. I'm not joking. It's -at least- three times a week and the timing is so random. Sometimes you'll get them at 2pm and sometimes you'll get them at 5pm, 7pm, and up to 9pm. Weekends aren't safe either. They really need to learn to reel that in with designated frequency, days, and times. It gets overwhelming quick and it's easy to miss updates. Overall, it's an okay school but needs some restructuring, especially the front office staff.

Administration leaves classroom issues to the teachers at Coral and if they do address a situation they do not attempt to notify the student victim or their parent to "protect the other family's privacy." The teachers that we had at both schools were GREAT (6th grade teachers at Coral and 7th grade teachers at Pinecrest.) No complaints there. Administration is more communicative and helpful at Pinecrest.

It's quite a change in his academic progress and his enthusiasm for school. He says Yayy every morning when I tell him what day it is, and that's school day. He started reading when he was four and a half. I don't have to ask him twice when it's reading time at home. Somehow Challenger got him to feel like he is having fun when he reads or works on the worksheets. He is able to explain to me errors he makes on his worksheets at school, and able to show me corrections. I am happy with his academic growth at this school. I like that the school entrance is locked at all time. You can't get to the front desk before you get approved to pass through the locked entrance There were couple times I had issues with admin. At first, I didn't know the school required uniform shirt and pants. I only ordered my son uniform shirts and went to buy him pants from a clothing store. One day he came home in someone else's pants with no note to explain why his pants were changed. When I called, that was when I was informed about the mandatory uniform. I was upset at how they made him change into different pants at school, and how they didn't have the courtesy to call me to work out the uniform issue. Another time was when I received a past due notice, and a warning of my son's school termination if the past due was not taken care of by so and so date. I was not made aware of the due. When I called the school to take care of the amount, I was told that it was from the one day that we picked him up late. Ms Brenda always calls me back in timely manner. For how happy my son is at this school, I can look past all the admin issues I have had.
