Dr. Abel is an excellent oral surgeon. He has a great reputation with both patients and dentists. I…read morehad a consultation with him about having some oral surgery done on my mouth. First, I must tell you that I looked at my appointment time and thought my appointment was at 11:00 am. After, I arrived, I found out my appointment was at 1:00 pm. Let me tell you how nice Dr. Abel was, he saw me at 11: 00. What a hero! Dr. Abel is funny and kind. He explained all of the ins and outs of the procedure. He also went over the different options I had to choose from. I had a panoramic mouth X-ray while I was there and his staff is top notch too. The office is bright and comfortable. It has all of the modern equipment needed to complete your surgery. I haven't had the surgery done yet, but I have every confidence that Dr. Abel is the surgeon to do it.

I was always someone that was reluctant to get my wisdom teeth removed. Both of my parents still…read morehave theirs and despite my awareness of potential issues that could arise, I always felt like I should only get them removed if absolutely necessary. Well alas, the time arrived when these suckers needed to get evicted. While I've had sensations of gum tenderness from time to time over the years, it wasn't until last week when one shifted in such a way that made it difficult to eat or even open my mouth fully. Because I wasn't sure how quickly my condition could worsen, I hopped on Yelp to find a top rated oral surgeon (even if not within my insurance network.) Since my family is in Montgomery County and would be helping me with pick up and recooperation after surgery, I was also looking for somewhere not too far from them. After reading BCC Oral Surgery's reviews, I followed up with quick phone call where I peppered the receptionist with a ton of questions. Both times I called, the person that picked up phone was pleasant, patient and knowledgable. Plus, they had availability to perform the surgery the following week, where as the place my dentist referred was likely not to have an appointment for at least a month. So instead of giving myself too much time for me to build up my anxiety further, on Friday I booked for wisdom teeth removal surgery for that following Monday. The office sent me a new patient form to fill out online and was given instructions on how to best prep for my surgery in advance. On Monday morning, we gave ourselves plenty of time to get there with traffic and parking in mind. (There is a garage in the building but it fills up rather quickly.)Another bonus: There is a pharmacy in the building as well, so that is also something very helpful to know since that's where we ended up picking my prescriptions up from. Upon arriving, they had to take some additional x-rays since Dr. Patel was a bit concerned with how close one of my wisdom teeth was to a nerve. When he came in to meet with me, he was cool, calm, direct and explained to me any concerns and risks. He was confident without being arrogant or without bedside manner and quite frankly, his whole team also reflected that. The techs that took x-rays and administered the laughing gas were all so professional, sweet, funny and re-assuring. I was joking and laughing with them before the gas even hit me. Once I had a little laughing gas in my system, they then administered the general anesthesia and within seconds I was out like a light. ( I remember the doctor walking in and I said "What's up doc? Respectfully." Then I gave him he peace sign and I was a goner.) When I woke up, I was sitting comfortably in the recovery room. I had very little discomfort, aside from some grogginess and a mouth full of gauze. But I was very present and aware despite it all, and I believe from start to finish it all took between 45-60 minutes. After coordinating with my mom, they wheeled me down to where my mom would be pulling up with my car and I was on my way. Dr. Patel said that if I did feel pain, it would likely not be until later in the evening once the general anesthesia wore off, so I was ready to potentially experience some excruciating pain. But lucky for me, aside from swelling and some light bleeding the overall pain was minimal. I'm now 48 hours post surgery and I've been able to to keep any pain at bay with over the counter painkillers (and of course, prescribed antibiotics.) But aside from the swelling, this has been the most unexpectedly pleasant experience after getting four teeth pulled, two of which were impacted. Overall, I couldn't sing the praises of Dr. Patel and his team any further and am so glad that I found a total rockstar of a surgeon and team to make my wisdom teeth removal a top tier experience overall, with very minimal discomfort. Thanks again, BCC Oral Surgery!

My experience with Dr. Puterman began a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away--before Covid…read morewas a word, let alone a plague. After consulting with a number of specialists, the consensus was clear. Dr. Puterman is the best at what he does in the DMV--and my particular case (don't ask) required the best. I confess, I was skeptical. But a little more than half a decade (and several surgeries later (don't ask), I have a functional mouth again. Not only teeth that work but teeth that look great. Best of all, the pain that tormented me for decades is gone. GONE. Obliterated. Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Puterman stuck by me. And I by him and his extraordinary staff and colleagues. Dr. Puterman was always honest. Always fair. Always honorable. Always kind. And always decent. This is not what I would have expected given the intrinsic challenges of my case and the fickle nature of human biology that doesn't always cooperate with titanium and bone grafts. And yet--here I am--finally some five plus years later. Grateful beyond words for my experience with Dr. Puterman. Don't get me wrong. I won't miss being in his chair for scores of additional hours. I'm a grateful patient. And what makes me especially grateful is that we made it--together. If you desire the best that modern dentistry has to offer, there is no one better--more capable, skillful, and honorable. I could not recommend anyone more highly. Puterman is the best.

He continued to work on me through my panic attack, and never even reached out to my husband who was in the waiting room. I couldn't speak due to the dental dam, bite block and all the instruments in my mouth, so I just lay there, hyperventilating with tears streaming down my face. I was severely traumatized. Weeks later, when I approached Dr. Puterman about the trauma, he dismissed my concerns, gaslighting me by questioning the validity of my experience. He even went on to tell me that his family member's panic attacks did not present in that fashion so I must not have been having one. He called me by the wrong name, patronized me, and completely disregarded my concerns about my very disturbing experience. To make matters worse, he went as far as involving my father (a retired sedation dentist who administered the exam to Dr. Puterman for his IV sedation license) to dispute my account. He tried to get my father to agree that I wasn't having a panic attack and that he didn't do anything wrong (News flash - My dad is well aware of my history and conducted all my dental treatment up until his retirement. He didn't agree). If you seek compassionate care, and especially if you are tough to sedate or have anxiety, I would advise considering alternative dentists who prioritize patient well-being over financial interests. There are many other very accomplished dentists out there who treat the whole person and don't just see dollar signs.

The tissue guard placed on the post was rubbing my tongue and causing pain. I asked Dr. Williams to sand it down as the guard was sharp and ragged. I expect that because I still had Novocain in my system I could not fully feel the guard. The attempt to smooth the guard had failed. By Friday afternoon, my tongue was bleeding from the sharp and ragged edge of the guard. Luckily orthodontic wax partially solved the issue. My follow up visit was Wednesday morning. I show up 5 minutes before my appointment time of 9am. At 9:30 am I ask the front desk if I had my appointment time correct. I am then told that the doctor is running and MAY ARRIVE BY 10AM. By that time I would have been sitting there for over an hour. I had other appointments to meet, including one at 10am. You doctors and dentists are not gods. Your patients have a life and a job as well. You cannot allow someone to walk in ON TIME for an appointment and NOT TELL THEM the appointment cannot be met for at least another hour. I was not guaranteed 10am. I was told maybe 10am. This is not acceptable behavior. Now I have wait even longer to have the tissue guard repaired with my tongue continuing to be scratched over and over again.
