I have been to Clancy's for lunch several times. Every time I get the burger lunch special because they really do have one of the best burgers in town. The service at lunch time is always prompt and the food comes out fast. My burger has always been cooked exactly to my liking and has a great flavor. Instead of a traditional bun, the burgers come on bread that is almost like a baguette and it far exceeds the taste of a regular bun. The fries have always been great too. The lunch special prices are very reasonable, especially since the food is so great. Also important to note: several times that I have been here for lunch I have seen Saint Louis County Health Inspectors eating there, so you know the kitchen is clean if they eat there. read more

"Lord of the flies" That's what Clancy's outside patio was. I mean at least 40 around our table alone. (If it wasn't for the most beautiful day of the year we would have moved inside; but I think no one wanted to be the first to suggest). They have GOT to do something about it. That said, Clancy's has good food, recommend Reuben & corned beef. I had their "daily special" which, for $9.99, was a good deal. Sirloin strip, two sides and a salad. Steak sirloin was too chewy with gristles, side was an onion "wedge" which was good. Salad -- your basic. Nice atmosphere, nice upper-scale area. My college chum and I went Friday for a late lunch. You do have to seat yourself. We chose a booth with well-worn cushions that had seen better days. They've got a good lunch special for $6.95. Choice of 6-oz. burger, barbeque pork sandwich, grilled chicken breast, ham club, 1/2 smoked chicken or 1-inch pork chop. Comes with one side. Choices are: side salad, fries, creamy cole slaw, sweet and sour slaw, baked beans, green beans or potato salad. My college chum got the burger with homemade chips that cost $1 extra. I got the pork chop. Then we went into an inquisition about the potato salad. They have three. Mayonnaise-based, mustard-based and German. I focused on the mustard-based, but then needed to know what else was in the potato salad besides potatoes. Celery. Hard-boiled eggs. That was it. That's what I got. The burger was served on a hoagie roll. The homemade chips were abundant. The pork chop (although I didn't measure it) didn't look like one inch. But there is shrinkage. Came with a little cup of barbeque sauce. Service was nice. Refills on beverages was attentive. Never saw a smile on that girl's face. The burger was fine. The homemade chips were fine. The pork chop had good flavor, but was quite chewy. The potato salad was outstanding. With all the chewing and chatting, I ate 1/4 of my pork chop, two bites of potato salad, and I was done. In Chesterfield on business travel, I wanted to get away from the chains near my hotel. Clancy's is in a cool historic building (Barn at Lucerne) and the pub fare was well above average. I came here twice in one week. The first time I had the bratwurst sandwich and the second time I had a burger. The burger was outstanding! Definitely not a frozen patty from Costco. Best restaurant burger I have had in a long time. The onion rings were unique and tasty, but hard to eat because they were all sort of fried together. Oh well. I wish they had more micros on tap, but I'm from Oregon so I am spoiled in this regard. read more

This most recent visit was disappointing. We came with the idea of it being steak night. Of the three steaks offered on the menu, only one was available. Even though the restaurant was relatively slow, the service was poor. The server did not come back after we placed our order. Someone from the kitchen brought out the food. They forgot one of us had ordered a salad but brought it when reminded. Also, when we tried to order their bread pudding for dessert, the server stated they were out as they were busy on St. Patrick's Day. That was two days prior. All of us ran out of drinks and we had to ask for a server to come over for refills. Really too bad the service is so bad and the restaurant doesn't have adequate supply of items on the menu. So we decided to visit the weekend of St Patrick's day. We were there for lunch, so it wasn't too bad. We did have to wait for a table since we had a large crowd, but that was ok. They were packed, so we had to wait a little bit for service. The waitress came over and took our drink orders. She then gave us a little slip of paper that had a few choices on it. This was our menu. OK, cool. What we didn't know, was that sides were separate. So we had ordered one and shared it with the rest of the table. Our meal came in a styrafoam container. The adults at the table went with the Reuben (Made with Clancy's Authentic 5th Generation Corned Beef, topped with swiss, sauerkraut & dressing). The kids at the table went with the only kid thing on the menu at the time, the hot dog. The Reuben was so good. The corned beef made the sandwich. We had to cut it with a fork and knife. I would like to go back when it isn't a holiday and check out their menu. read more

I have been an on-again/off-again visitor to Clancy's for more than 10 years. Sadly, my most recent visit did not live up to my previous wonderful experiences. The interior of the pub has fallen on disrepair with shredded booth seats, sticky tables, and generally dirty dingy atmosphere. Gone are the days of the chef's choice steak lunch special. The pork steak I had was the worst piece of meat I had ever been served. It was dry and devoid of flavor. I suspect it had been several days since it was "smoked". The steak salad that my companion ordered was poorly assembled but tasted ok. read more

Dropped in for lunch. Service was good. I had the steak salad which the menu described as "Crisp lettuce, topped with grilled flank steak." That was exactly what I received. Just lettuce and steak. With my choice of dressing The steak was cooked well and tasty, but I felt that the salad was uninspired. read more

Went for buck rib night. These are some of the meatiest pork baby back ribs I have ever had. Great smoked flavor and very tender. We had fries which were ok because they were the small string ones and onion straws. They call them rings but there is not much ring about them, but they taste great nonetheless. Food gets 5 Stars! Getting the order placed was fast as was the kitchen but when it was time to get going to make it back to watch game 1 of the World Series, our server was no where to be found. Ordering and kitchen speed was 5 star but paying the bill and getting back going was 0-1 star. Finally got one of the other servers to ring us out so we could make it home in time. Not a place to go if you have a schedule but if you are just ok with hanging while the servers come and go then this is the place for you. read more

Ive been here twice. THe first time, I left withour getting anything, becasue I sat at the bar for 10 minutes and was not offered a drink, a menu, anything. Im pretty sure I was not invisible that day, but was treated as such. A friend reccomended their burgers, so I went back. Good size, kinda greasy, good bread.... overall... average.... no big deal to me. I wont get a burger here again... but might go back for something else. read more

This charming place was a great find in Ballwin! They have a butcher shop on premise, so it should be no surprise that the steak was outstanding! Great pub atmosphere- local flare. So far anything we have tried has been good- they do have heat burgers and a nice pork steak too! They even have a butcher counter where we have taken home brats and such from the meat market. If your in the area and looking for pub fair - check them out. read more

This place is very so-so. It is close so we go here occasionally for soimple food like burgers, etc.. I am surprised how average to below average their steaks are. They seem to be choice cuts. I order something other than steak here from now on. The German Potatao salad is a riot. It doesn't even look or taste like German potato salad. A side dish gone completely wrong. Great little pub. Good service but I was surprised at the poor quality of meat in my steak salad. It was fatty, lots of grissle and basically not fit to eat. I used to love this place, would go there regularly since 2003. Had many a happy hour there with my teams over the years at my recommendation. I called in today was told they don't do the Saturday steak special for take out any longer, but would sell it at regular price. I have been to Clancy's on three separate occasions in the past month and their food is amazing. First visit was to sample one of the River Front Times recommended cheeseburgers. The 8 oz cheeseburger was coined perfect medium rare and had a freshly ground taste. One of the best cheeseburgers I have had. I went a second time to try more of the menu and was pleased to find out it was Steak Night Saturday. I had my taste buds set on the Reuben, which was the best I have had in St. Louis. Third visit was on a Tuesday for the Fried chicken, equally amazing. The only strike was the service. It felt like the kitchen cooked one table at a time, and you saw the waitress four times (seating, order, food delivery and bill). read more

Have been several times in the past and have enjoyed the experience but today was extraordinarily bad. Went in and it was not busy at all. Unfortunately, no one would wait on us. We sat at two separate tables, made eye contact with the server but were never acknowledged once. Not an "I'll be right with you." or "Can I get you something to drink?" We love the feel of clancy's, it's got that good traditional pub feel. The problem is every time we go the food has gotten worse and the service is hit or miss. This time their famous brisket sandwich got even smaller, there was maybe a single layer of meat, very disappointing. The au gratins that used to be a big square now consisted of 5 slices of potato (I kid you not) with about 2 tablespoons of cheese sauce on them. The green beans were still good at least. The hubbster's fish and chips were fair, in certain places it was obvious the oil was not the right temp, crispy/soggy. I'd go back just to have a beer because of the ambiance, but at $4.50 for a 12oz, maybe not. read more

Clancy's has been a personal favorite for several years. Saint Patricks day is a great time to be there as the corned beef and cabbage is everything you would expect. Much to my surprise however that must be the only day this applies. Recently went there and decided to have cb&c only to be served corned beef from a bag that was awful. Stick with the burgers and steaks and leave the cb&c to Saint Patricks day only. read more

If I could give Clancy's 0 stars I definitely would. I ordered a steak medium. I receive it and it's hard as a rock on the outside, can't even chew it. So I sent it back and asked if they could cook it a little better. This is fine, stuff happens to where things aren't perfect but I would like to get what I pay for. Second time around, it's way undercooked and still cold on the inside, rarer than rare. I push the steak aside and said they can just take it and that it's unacceptable again. I was a little heated but not overly, again stuff happens. Well then the waitress had the audacity to bring me my check and expect me to pay for that garbage, that's what set me over the edge. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, the food and service has gone extremely downhill over the 3 years that I've been attending. read more

We have been living within walking distance of Clancy's for close to 30 years. Would have had an occasional burger, fish or steak dinner when we met neighbors for a night out, but were not what you would call super regular patrons. For over 40 years, we have gone out of our way to go to Hodak's for the best fried chicken in St. Louis, which was a good 30 minute drive away. However, we have recently found that Clancy's Tuesday night chicken dinner is even better than Hodak's. The chicken is super hot, crispy, juicy, well-seasoned and comes out quicker than you can finish your first drink. What took us so long to find this chicken heaven that was just around the block? Now, our fried chicken cravings get fulfilled on Tuesdays along with Clancy's $1.00 glasses of Bud Light. read more

This dive bar type restaurant is not much on ambiance or service. But the drinks are inexpensive and strong and the food was delicious. I came with co-workers on a Tuesday night, which is fried chicken night. $8 for 3 pieces of dark meat, and 2 sides. This meal was huge, delicious and far more than I can eat, so I took some home.
