After speaking with the wonderful adopter, I felt Jared could help me. I am a very experienced dog owner, all rescues. I was confident and had dogs pass Obedience and Canine Good Citizen tests. Then, my neighbor's dog viciously attacked me. That was never something I thought would happen. I ended up in the ER and then in therapy for PST. It did not stop me from adopting more dogs over the years, but I was not sure of myself. The experience rocked my world. I doubted myself and my ability to keep any dog in my care safe. I had another incident at a dog park years after the initial attack. A dog at the dog park attacked one of my dogs that same dog bit me in the process of breaking up the attack That hit me hard and did not help. The various dogs I adopted over the years, no doubt were noticing my insecurity. I was somebody that before the incident always knew what to do and how to diffuse a situation. Fast forward to late summer. After reading Jared's bio and speaking to the adopter, I knew he could help and I set up our initial meeting at my house. My dog in the backyard while Jared and I talked. During our first meeting, we spent 2 hours talking about my background. I told him I was a firm believer in the premise that a dog is only as good as its owner makes it. Jared fully understood that I would be on board with getting to the root of issues. He finally met Millie; the first female rescue She is a Pit Beagle mix. I got her when she was 2 years old and had never lived in a house. Her previous owner abandoned her in an SF park, 6 weeks after she had delivered puppies. Luckily, a rescue organization took her. I knew she was intelligent, alert, and needed to learn to trust people. She also needed to learn how to go through doorways. Fast forward and she is a loving dog, but highly reactive to other dogs. Walks for us meant making sure I had long sight lines and room for us to get out of the way. She listened to me, but again. I knew my interactions with her were lacking. Jared has been patient and has been collaborating with me. My former confidence is starting to come back. We have worked on Millie's impulse control, such as meeting people. She is OVERLY friendly to humans, which I know is a problem. Through our work, she has learned to be calmer and not to approach until given permission. One of the early adjustments we made to start using a Gentle Leader. I was hesitant because one never knows what a rescue has exposed to in their life. I carefully introduced it and have been using it since. I like the added security of using a connector, Jared's suggestion, to her harness or collar. This is long, so I will cut to the chase. A dog means a commitment to being the best custodian you can be for that dog and give the dog a safe life. Jared stresses repetition starting with small steps. Build a solid base to start. This is a process of learning, restoring my faith in myself, and working on things in the right order.

Little did I know that cuteness overload comes with a lot of responsibility and struggles, especially since I live alone, and have never had a pet in my life. In fact, as a kid, I was extremely scared of dogs! I knew I had to get a trainer when after the 2nd week, I started feeling overwhelmed with my puppy's energy and tantrums. Thankfully I found Diane! She has been a great mentor if I could use this word to guide me through my pup training journey. We had two formal sessions - 1st one was a 3 hour phone call where she patiently answered all my questions and gave me 100s of tools and things to buy and learn to build a "puppy training toolkit". The 2nd session was a 3 hour in person training session where she introduced training collar and other tools and showed me how to stop certain behaviors. The best thing is that Diane has been kind enough to answer stupid and repeated questions from me over text or phone at any time of the day. If I've felt overwhelmed, I've always had comfort to know that I have a personal counsellor/mentor available. Diane shared a lot of tools, tricks, and methods - most of them work great, some don't - some do, but not always - but that is just because each dog is different and each dog-parent relationship is unique. I am just glad to have all those tools and information available to tap into whenever I run into any challenge. I feel super confident in my puppy's training and the fact that I have all I need to train my puppy well, thanks to Diane! My puppy Zoya has been sleeping safe and sound in her crate from day 1, and sleeping all night from the moment I reached out to Diane. We had to cancel our original training day due to a traumatic injury our other dog, Enzo, sustained: a spinal stroke. Tasha immediately offered to refund our deposit without hesitation. When I shared that I still very much wanted to work with Steve, she later went out of her way to find us an earlier date than originally offered after I asked to be notified of any cancellations. That level of care and humanity meant so much during a really difficult time. I am profoundly grateful for Steve and his entire team. I purchased the 12 class puppy agility package for $600 ($50 per class) because it was the most affordable option. Unfortunately, the experience did not match the cost. Each class consisted of 3-4 puppies. Since the dogs worked one at a time, the actual active training time per puppy was roughly 8-10 minutes out of the full 50-minute session. That works out to about $5 per minute of real practice, which feels very expensive for what you receive. The bigger issue was the lack of progression. Every single class started from the absolute beginning, repeating the same basic exercises with no advancement or individual challenges. My puppy picked things up very quickly and because of all the down time, quickly became bored. It felt like Groundhog Day... the same class on repeat for 12 weeks. There was no sense of building skills, increasing difficulty, or tailoring the lesson to the dogs' abilities. The trainers were friendly and clearly like dogs, which was the one positive part. However, it never seemed to register that customers were paying a premium price for very little actual training time or educational value. I f you're looking for real skill development and good value, I would look elsewhere, or else don't use your entire lesson package on puppy agility in hopes that it advances at some point.This program might be okay for absolute beginners who need many repetitions of the basics, but for anyone whose puppy catches on quickly, it's disappointing and overpriced.
