Our 6mo rescue pup, Aki, is part Australian cattle dog, part pit bull, and a drizzle of other breeds. When we got her over a month ago, she was a nervous little pup - afraid of cars, streets. and loud noises. I delved into YouTube videos to acclimate her with suburban life. And all of that positive reinforcement worked like a charm; she became a puppy that was happy to take walks around the neighborhood. But this brought along a slew of troublesome behaviors - jumping on people, pulling on the leash, barking, chewing, and digging. The worst was the nipping, especially with the kids. Likely from her cattle dog side, her nipping fortunately didn't break their skin, but it left the kids afraid to be in the same room as Aki. And none of the YouTube videos I watched were helping. The last straw was when our eldest daughter took Aki out for a potty break in the evening. Aki started jumping, nipping, and barking feverishly enough that it scared our daughter to the point of tears. That's when I turned to Bara. Our first interaction was a 30m phone call that ended up being almost an hour. She asked about Aki and our situation, then shared her training style. Her technique is one that blends positive reinforcement with corrective actions that are tailored for each specific dog. Not everyone may feel comfortable with taking corrective actions on their dog, but they are meant as a temporary measure that comes after positive reinforcement, not as a permanent replacement. From that call, her individualized advice had an immediate positive impact. A third of our issues were resolved. We purchased both private and group lessons. The private lessons allowed Bara to come to our home and address the troublesome behaviors within our own environment - including which behaviors of ours we should change to set Aki up for success. The group lessons allowed Aki to learn obedience within an environment full of distractions, while allowing us to watch how other dog owners handled their dogs. Aki hasn't nipped at us again. Walks with her are a delight. Although Bara didn't address the barking directly, it has gone away as a side effect of the other changes. Right now, we have Aki calmly sitting in place on a dog mat while our family eats dinner. The kids are no longer afraid of her and have started playing with her. We still have more training to do, but the difference has been night and day. If you've exhausted all of the generic positive reinforcement tactics from YouTube videos like me, and really want to make things work with your dog and your family, we would highly recommend Bara. Bara is the Dog Whisperer of the Bay Area*. It's obvious that she loves dogs and her work. Some people may get hung up on the corrective actions that might be required in particularly difficult cases, but those are just one of the many tools in Bara's toolkit. All of the other usual tools are also there, such as rewards, treats, redirections, clickers, training games, etc. What you'll find helpful is her years of experience and her ability to zero in and identify what changes we humans can make to help resolve those troublesome dog behaviors. [*] I also watched and tried Cesar Millan's "tsst" tactic, but it didn't work for us. What did work was the holistic set of changes that Bara recommended.

Bara is AMAZING. She is the dog whisperer. We were referred to Bara by multiple dog owners who shared that she worked miracles with their puppies. We have experienced the same with our two pups. Maverick and Ripley were mesmerized by Bara the moment she stepped through the door. Bara has an incredible EQ and will get to know the family as much as the pup(s) and will find the best path for your family. I love that it's not a one size fits all approach - she will share what can work, why, what may not work...sense what you may or may not feel comfortable with and/or what may/may not work with your lifestyle and together find the next best technique to try. Within just 1 session, we accomplished so much. After the 2nd session, we raved for weeks how much Bara has changed our lives. We highly recommend Bara and Bee Positive Dog Training. You don't need anything else. With just a few sessions, you and your pup will be getting the most joy out of life together!!

    Georgie
    Uri Z.

Friday morning I decided enough is enough. Georgie would have to go. I had received Georgie exactly 2 months earlier as a foster parent. He had been spared euthanasia by the intervention of a rescue group of ladies from Modesto who looked to get him a new home. Georgie is an exceptional dog. A Lab/Pit mix, he is intense, smart and super athletic. So much fun to hike with in the Palo Alto Foothills! At the dog park he is the heart of the party. Tirelessly running and friendly with every dog. However we ran into a serious problem. Georgie, it turned out, has separation anxiety. He must be near me 24/7. He won't let me be out of sight. Bottom line, I can't leave him home alone for a minute. For two months I didn't swim, bike or do anything with friends. Left alone in a locked crate he'd go wild, bending the metal walls with his teeth and sticking his head in the gaps. Left alone at home out of the crate, he broke several windows in order to escape -- and look for me in the streets of Palo Alto. Animal Control was on my case, as well as neighbors on the block, and I did receive hate letters -- not everybody in Palo Alto likes to see a loose dog walking the street on its own. Then, Friday night, when I told a friend that the next day I was going to give Georgie back to the rescue, my friend told me about a trainer called Bara. He said She does magic with tough dogs. He made the introduction, and Bara called me back Friday 10pm. She wouldn't let the dog be euthanized. Saturday morning we started the work. Bara observed me and Georgie in action. She noted that Georgie was a tough case -- and that separation anxiety is tough to cure. But hey, let's give it a chance. We experienced some very intense four days. Altogether, Bara visited us twice. She "trained" me by showing me exactly how she trained the dog herself. She basically put an action plan in my hand. I worked on that plan for four days, while consulting with Bara by text. As of today, less than a week later, Georgie agrees to stay calmly in his crate. yesterday, I went swimming for two hours. Tomorrow, fingers crossed, I will go to a concert at Stanford for three hours. I can go back to my life, and Georgie got a chance to live with me. If you have a difficult dog situation, then don't give up. There is a chance. Call Bara.

I was referred to Bara by a close friend when we adopted Mac, a 2-month old Great Dane puppy. Mac was an anxious puppy from the very beginning. He was afraid of stepping out for walks, afraid to get in the car, afraid of loud noises, afraid of other dogs etc. And to complicate matters more, this was the first dog that my husband and I got as a couple and although my husband grew up with dogs, Mac was the first pet I had in my life. So we needed some intensive coaching and guidance ourselves :) We started with 1:1 sessions at home. Mac was so anxious that he growled at Bara in his first session. But she did such a masterful job of calming him down and helping him trust her. She also encouraged us to get him on a tight daily routine to help reduce his anxiety. Prior to starting classes with Bara, we were not getting much sleep at night and neither was Mac. Within 2 days of strictly following the routine Bara recommended, Mac started sleeping peacefully through the night, which was such a relief! She helped us understand how to couple positive reinforcement with timely corrective action for certain behaviors (e.g. resource guarding). We also supplemented the 1:1 classes with group classes. In the group classes Bara and Jamin helped us get Mac comfortable around other dogs. As a result he's no longer nervous and doesn't rush to hide behind us when he sees other dogs. We've also been able to make incredible progress on his walks. He started off as a puppy that never wanted to leave the front yard, and would try to sprint back towards the house if you managed to get him a few steps outside the gate. Fast forward to today, and loves to go on long walks and explore new parks. We've also been able to work on his recall skills to the point where it's possible to have him go leash-less in locations/situations where it's safe to do so. Mac completed his Level 1 and Level 2 obedience training with Bee Positive. And we look forward to more lessons where he can get his Good Canine Citizen certificate. He is such a happy, well-settled puppy and has come such a long way from where he was just 3 months ago, all thanks to Bara and all her coaching which not only helped Mac, but also helped us be better carers for our little guy.

Bailey, now 9 months old and well behaved thanks to Bara!
    Kellie B.

We were completely unprepared for the unbrideled energy, constant barking, nipping soiling and tearing up the house that comes with a puppy. Bara helped us transform, Bailey into a well behaved dog we are now very proud of. She is a miracle worker. We are so grateful.

I've only had 1 session with Bara so far and it's been so helpful. Of course, all our dog's issues haven't been 100% resolved as that takes time and consistency, but I've already seen major progress. That is what's important. I adopted my Maltipoo a few months ago. He was neglected and spent his whole life in a mechanics garage. Unfortunately he wasn't properly trained and didn't have the opportunity to socialize with people and other dogs besides his siblings. He just turned 1. Moko is particularly triggered by guests coming into our home and he gets very territorial so I wanted to make sure we stopped him from 1) barking at guests and 2) jumping on them. He would be ok after a while but if they ever went to the bathroom, got up, or walked around he would be triggered. Bara showed me the ways to discipline him and show him tough love. That behavior is simply not acceptable and we need to teach our dogs that. I don't expect my dog to be super friendly with guests, but they have to be able to coexist. I used the methods that Bara taught me and when we had a guest over, he growled at him once or twice and then we immediately corrected that and he didn't do it again. Another problem that we're working on next is leash reactivity (a very common problem amongst us doggie owners)! Moko pulls the leash whenever he sees a dog and if he can't greet them, he begins to bark. It's embarrassing when we take him to a cafe or an outdoor restaurant. I'm so happy that we've gone with Bara. She's always quick to respond via text, and she genuinely cares about your dog's progress. She's the best!! UPDATE 6/21 We had our second session to go over leash reactivity particularly around dogs and he's doing so well. I'm so glad we're seeing so much progress. Before Moko would "load" and basically hunker down and walk slowly to the dog and then rush up to him. I want him to learn how to properly greet a dog (if he wants to) and do it in a safe way. I'm so so so happy with the progress. He's gonna be an even better dog in no time!!!

Bara is truly exceptional. At the peak of the pandemic, I surprised my parents with a Maltese puppy after their first one passed away. Their first dog was very mellow and obedient, whereas the new puppy, Pepper, was incredibly loud and aggressive towards anything he saw (people, dogs, TV commercials, basically everything you can imagine). They couldn't take him out in public, he couldn't socialize with other dogs, he couldn't do regular dog things. They tried their best to train him and get him used to the outside world but didn't have any success. For two years my parents struggled with Pepper to the point that he was giving my mom anxiety attacks and that's when I decided to give Bara a call. I honestly was not expecting results since Pepper seemed like a helpless case, and was I wrong. After ONE session, Pepper was a changed dog and we could not be more happy with the results. He no longer barked at his usual triggers, no longer displayed aggressive behavior, and overall was more peaceful and at ease. For those of you who are concerned or feel wary about using an e-collar, prong collar, etc., we barely used the e-collar. I know every dog is different, but in our experience, we used it maybe 4 times maximum. Bara was also very caring and sensitive to our concerns considering that Pepper is only 6 pounds. She also used positive reinforcement techniques in her training. I couldn't recommend Bara enough and I would recommend her to any dog parents struggling with their pups--young and old. Your dog will be in good hands. Thank you so much, Bara!

I am a first time dog owner. I was a little nervous because I wanted to have a trained dog but was not sure where to look. While doing some research I found Bee Positive on instagram. I was then introduced to Jamin. I was greatly surprised by the support I found with Jamin and the group class. I highly recommend this company.

Bara and Charlie - after graduating from Obedience 1

We are so thankful to have met, and to be working with Bara at Bee Positive Dog Training. I cannot speak highly enough of her genuine care for dogs, their wellbeing, in addition to us as owners, and our sanity! We came to Bara, initially, with a 7 month old puppy (Charlie), who was being raised during quarantine, who had a ton of energy, but also had no boundaries in the house. He was barking in the crate, jumping up on counter tops, barking when one of us was in the shower, taking things off of the table, and acting like he was in charge! We really did not have the skills on our own to help us regain control and show him that we are in charge. After one very intentional and thorough session with Bara, she was able to help Charlie learn boundaries and learn that we were in charge and it fully changed how we could live with Charlie in the house. It was so impactful, and she was very generous with her time - with excellent guidance to us throughout the session. She has great intuition with dogs and can very quickly diagnose the issues at hand - both with dog and owner. She helped us to identify that Charlie was very reactive to unfamiliar experiences and helped to guide us on helping him get through some of his fears. We have continued to work with Bara for obedience skills in the form of both private sessions and structured group classes - and Charlie has been able to pass obedience by age 9 months. Every session with Bara has been highly valuable to us. We feel very taken care of, confident and successful as owners, knowing that we have access to Bara to help us train our dog. I could not recommend her more highly!

Bara is an excellent dog trainer who, in a very short period of time made our Australian Shepherd puppy, Pepsi, one of the most well behaved puppies. We reached out to Bara when Pepsi was nipping on our hands/fingers constantly, chewing on every thing around the house and was chasing our cat. In one session Bara made a difference. After the first session, Pepsi would no longer bite while playing, chew only his chew toys and nothing else and would no longer chase the cat. This has allowed our cat and Pepsi to get along well, and has truly made having both our pets together a very joyful experience. Now we can easily go on trips with our puppy and cat, and the two even sleep next to each other! This is all possible due to Bara's effective methods which are unique. We used other dog trainers before and they told us that the "dog and cat will eventually learn to coexist", but none of those other trainers' methods were effective. One session with Bara was all it took for Pepsi to understand the house rules and we truly believe he is a much more balanced dog now. He is a lot more loving and affectionate, while respecting the house rules. Obedience through the Bara way also brought us a more loving and joyful puppy and we can't thank her enough for that! We have continued obedience lessons with Bara, which Pepsi just graduated the Obedience 1 class, and we are looking forward to Obedience 2 and Obedience 3 levels! If you have a puppy who nips or chases the cat, you have to reach out to Bee Positive!

No more biting, mouthing, or teething on people :-)

Color me amazed! Bara changed my puppy Colin's biting and jumping behavior in just one session. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is serious about raising an obedient and well-behaved dog.

There was so much anxiety for both of us. I'm a complete new dog owner with little to no experience. And right from the beginning Jared was patient, professional, and really took the time to learn and explain my dog's behavior and our specific concerns. I had some concerns about leash training and how my dog responded to visitors at the door. Jared guided us with step by step approaches that were easy to follow. And almost immediately after our first visit, I started noticing behavioral changes with my dog. I even noticed the changes on our walks. The tips and techniques regarding leash training was so helpful. Things that I never even thought would affect my dog's behavior, Jared brought to light. He made the whole process feel manageable and truly gave me tools to build my confidence and my relationship with my pup. It's clear Jared truly cares about the dogs he works with and their families. He's passionate about what he does, and I'm so grateful for his help and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an effective and compassionate dog trainer.

She was quiet and a bit confused in those early days, and we honestly didn't know what "normal" even looked like. We started working with Jared literally the day after we brought her home, and that made all the difference. What stood out right away is that he doesn't just train the dog, he helps you understand your dog's psychology. That shift was huge for us. Instead of guessing or reacting, we started to feel like we actually knew what she needed and how to respond. He guided us through the basics like potty training and getting her to sleep through the night, and once those clicked, life got dramatically easier. More importantly, he gave us a framework we can keep using as new challenges come up. Our puppy still has some separation anxiety and can be a bit needy, but now it feels manageable. We're making steady, incremental progress and feel confident we have the tools to keep going. Jared has also been great with our whole family. He builds trust quickly, explains things clearly, and makes everyone feel comfortable and capable. You never feel judged or overwhelmed. If you're a first-time dog owner, especially with a young puppy, I'd strongly recommend working with him early. It sets the right foundation and saves you a lot of stress down the line.

The best thing is that Diane has been kind enough to answer stupid and repeated questions from me over text or phone at any time of the day. If I've felt overwhelmed, I've always had comfort to know that I have a personal counsellor/mentor available. Diane shared a lot of tools, tricks, and methods - most of them work great, some don't - some do, but not always - but that is just because each dog is different and each dog-parent relationship is unique. I am just glad to have all those tools and information available to tap into whenever I run into any challenge. I feel super confident in my puppy's training and the fact that I have all I need to train my puppy well, thanks to Diane! My puppy Zoya has been sleeping safe and sound in her crate from day 1, and sleeping all night from the moment I reached out to Diane. Zoya is fully potty trained, and walks on leash like a confident yet obedient queen! Diane is extremely knowledgeable about dog behaviors, illnesses, eating habits, and tantrums - and I always reach out to her first, before I reach out to my vet! I trust Diane, and I promise you will also!

The stars aligned in bring her to us because she is more than a rockstar dog trainer & coach, but she is a trusted member of our family who I hold at a high level of respect. She helped us organize our apartment so that our puppy could be introduced into our space over time, she taught us how to walk our dramatic doodle for the first time, she helped our doodle meet a pack of his own during his walks, gave us food, supplement, and toy recommendations. She walked us through what to do when our puppy was misbehaving and incorporates a firm, yet loving technique so the dog knows who is boss. I can still hear her voice in the back of my head, "Christine you need to be firm, he cannot win." Puppies test your patience and Diane truly is our advocate in learning how to not only redirect his actions but build confidence in being first time dog owners. I've learned more in the months with Diane than I could have ever learned through a book or online. I am forever grateful to her, the bond that she's helped us create with our dog, the bond that she herself has created with our dog, and the continued guidance she offers as we continue to grow. I would recommend Diane to my friends and family.

I have decades of experience fostering dogs and personally adopting many of my own, and over the years I've worked with a wide range of trainers. Without question, Steve is in a league entirely of his own. His talent, intuition, and depth of understanding when it comes to dogs is extraordinary. He doesn't just train dogs; he teaches humans how to truly understand them. What made the experience even more unforgettable was the joy he brought into the day. We laughed constantly. At one point my cheeks genuinely hurt from hours of smiling and laughter. And yet, amid all of that warmth and humor, we walked away with an incredibly clear, grounded, and practical understanding of his methods and a deep sense of confidence in our ability to apply them. Steve's approach is refreshingly doable: just five minutes of training per day, paired with his ongoing availability as a resource. That combination alone feels invaluable. We literally just completed our training day today, so I plan to update this review in a few months with more detail about long-term ease of execution and results with our dog, Griffin. But one thing I feel compelled to share now is this: throughout the entire day, even while Griffin was dramatically protesting (vocally, and with flair), Steve remained calm, steady, and completely unfazed. Griffin didn't love everything he was being asked to do, but he clearly adored Steve. He never cowered, never shut down, never showed fear. That level of trust speaks volumes. At one point, I asked Steve about scheduling an additional training day for one of our other dogs. His response was thoughtful, sensible, and deeply ethical: he told me it wouldn't be necessary. He explained that the principles I was learning with Griffin would absolutely apply to our other dogs as well, and that he'd be more than happy to answer questions along the way. That moment really matters to me because it so clearly reflects that Steve is driven by genuine passion and care for people and dogs, not by squeezing every possible dollar out of his clients. I also want to wholeheartedly acknowledge Tasha, who was incredibly kind, responsive, and compassionate throughout the scheduling process. We had to cancel our original training day due to a traumatic injury our other dog, Enzo, sustained: a spinal stroke. Tasha immediately offered to refund our deposit without hesitation. When I shared that I still very much wanted to work with Steve, she later went out of her way to find us an earlier date than originally offered after I asked to be notified of any cancellations. That level of care and humanity meant so much during a really difficult time. I am profoundly grateful for Steve and his entire team. This was one of the most positive, affirming, and empowering experiences I've ever had as a dog guardian. If you're looking for the best, congratulations. You have found it with One Day Dog Training!

We had tried various tactics, treats to rid Finn of his "bad habits" We were referred to One Day Dog Training through some close friends who had worked with Steve to train their 2 dogs. From the start.. Finn really took to Steve. Steve is personable, knowledgeable, and patient. His love for dogs is felt. He put our minds at ease from the start. Through the training, Steve took time to teach us how to better understand dog behavior and how we can better communicate what we want our dog to do...It was very enlightening. It was an education for us and Finn! At the end of our 3 hour session, we were really amazed to see a transformed young dog. We are soooo proud of Finn. The 3 of us have learned so much! Thank You, Steve!

The team recommended the attitudes course which focuses less on learning new tricks but rather on keeping dogs calm in all situations. We graduated the beginners course and enjoyed it so much that we continued on to the intermediate attitudes class which we did on and off for months until we moved out of the area. I've tried a handful of trainers and programs but these classes made the biggest difference in my dog's reactivity. Would highly recommend for any reactive dog owner looking for an affordable and impactful training option.

Bit of background: Maggie has done 12 weekly group training sessions with another trainer and is generally well-behaved. However, she doesn't read the social signals from other dogs well (ex: when they want to be left alone), tends to jump on everyone at all times, doesn't respond to commands unless there's a treat involved, and lacks confidence. What I enjoyed about the program is that it includes several in person training sessions during the B&T. We got to see Maggie's progress as time went on and most importantly, we were trained on their behavior psychology and how to become the leaders of our pack. I will say I was nervous about implenting the ecollar but Bryan has demonstrated that it is a safe and effective training tool-- I got to see it used as a tool for correction that Maggie actually responded well to. Maggie is coming home tomorrow and hand-off includes an in-home training sessions to ensure her progress doesn't regress which I appreciate. From what I've seen, Maggie has become more confident, responds to recalls in distracting places (no treats involved), learned to self-soothe, and plays/greets other dogs/people with manners. Truly the best investment I've made in my dog and I'd highly recommend Mutt and Tumble to all dog parents!

I worked with Bryan to help my doodle, Ruby, with selective reactivity. Ruby has always been very…read moresweet and highly obedient -- I've done a lot of positive reinforcement training with her -- but when it came to reactivity, that approach wasn't working. If anything, it sometimes amped her up more. Importantly, she wasn't reactive across the board. She was totally fine on dog walks and at parks. The issues showed up when she was on leash passing dogs, when she felt territorial, and especially with dogs or animals on TV -- she would charge the screen. It felt unpredictable and like it was getting worse, not better. I was nervous about changing approaches because I'd had a bad experience with board-and-train in the past, but I knew I needed to rethink how I was helping her. We started with several in-person sessions so I could fully understand and feel comfortable with the training philosophy and how e-collar training would be introduced. That foundation made a big difference for me. After that, Ruby did a three-week board and train. When she came home, there was a noticeable shift. A few weeks later, while I was out of town over the holidays, I had her go back for an additional week, which also went really well. After the board-and-train, Bryan also did a lesson with my parents in the East Bay, who are Ruby's primary caretakers when I'm out of town. That follow-through meant a lot -- making sure everyone was aligned created real consistency for her. The results have honestly been transformative. She still has occasional moments (as all dogs do), and I keep the e-collar on her to reinforce boundaries, but the trajectory has completely changed. For example, she now sees dogs on TV and doesn't react -- even without the collar on. She sat through the entire Super Bowl, ads and all, without charging the screen, which felt like a major milestone. I can now take her to cafés, and for the first time, I genuinely believe one day I'll be able to bring her to work. Instead of her reactivity escalating, it feels like we've unlocked a new, calmer path forward. The only area for improvement would be communication during the board-and-train portion. I'm used to receiving frequent photos and videos when my dog is away, and updates were more limited -- typically one photo or video per day when I prompted, usually at the dog park. I would have loved more visibility into what her training days looked like, especially footage of the specific reactivity work (like TV desensitization). Overall, I'm incredibly grateful. Ruby is still her sweet self, but with clearer boundaries and far more confidence. That step change has made a huge difference for both of us.
