The Dressing Room stocks a beautiful collection of clothes accessories and jewellery which is not easily found in town, there's a real sense of style in here and the window displays are consistently alurring. The prices are not extortionate and considering the convenience of the store, are actually very reasonable. The staff, in my experience, are variable: some days they're friendly, some days not, but they're only human and everybody has an off day! I would say this shop has a particular target audience: young fashionable females, and I don't think the mechandise will appeal to all of the local ladies.

Bark's Pets is a local pet shop located in County Road. This is also the biggest pet shop in County Road and one which has a decent variety of well looked after pets, accessories and food. The staff are always friendly and willing to help although at times you need to be patient before you get seen to, as it does get busy on occasions. If you are a lover of pets, this is a great place to come for a browse and be able to obtain tips and advice from knowledgeable staff. Personally, I have been to places that sell a wider variety of fish but if you're after reptiles or spiders for instance, then this is your Aladdin's cave!

Jeeves offer an engraving service which is very reasonably priced. The ornate lettering is stunning and can transform a relatively mundane gift into an invaluable possession. I have given and received several items engraved by Jeeves over the years, which range from compact mirrors and lipstick cases to hairbrushes and spoons and the standard has been consistently high. I recently had a number of small jewellery pieces of sentimental value converted into bracelet charms. The work was completed as I waited and was flawless: each item was soldered and polished to perfection. Jeeves also offer a valuation service and a repair service

They have everything you can think of here from horror film character costumes and cutesy cartoon characters. The costumes, obviously depending on their complexity, are inexpensive to buy but they can also be hired. They all seem to be of an excellent quality. They have an excellent range of sizes here. There are costumes for children right up to costumes for those with fuller figures. The staff are lovely and very helpful. This is a fab shop.

The owner is somewhat eccentric, telling many a tale about his life and the history of the local area but it all adds to the charm of the shop, which stands out amongst the other local jewellers (of which there are quite a few). Despite his eccentricity, he is still very knowledgeable and has given me great assistance and advice on many visits. I have been there on a few occasions for watch repairs, as well as browsing their products, and have found their service to be remarkably prompt, usually repairing my items in a couple of hours if they have time. The other members of staff there are always polite, friendly and ready to assist at all times as well, meaning going to A J Rogers is always a pleasant experience, whether you buy anything or not.

Two less than…read moreable men who do not give out receipts when you leave your jewellery with them, who 'faff' about, are 'indirect', and when faced with a complaint, take the 'defensive mode' rather than being professional and curteous and apologetic for their gross failings as a 'repairer' of jewellery. I had a bad feeling as I entered the shop and wish I had taken note of my obvious correct intuition. I paid £29 for two small repairs to a gold necklace and a gold bracelet. I picked them up after more than 10 days of the jewellers having them - getting no confirmation that they were ready (i had to ring them) and then, after wearing them for no more than 5 hours, the bracelet dropped off my wrist (luckily I was indoors) and i couldn't believe that it had broke. I immediately felt wary about my necklace and as i undone the clasp, that broke too. I rang the shop and told them and they said to bring the items in, they would look at them and make 'their' appropriate verdict on what to do. I said I wanted a refund. I returned to the shop and the older man was less than apologetic or understanding and said I would have to leave the items with them and they would make their decision. I had to demand they deal with me there and then and make a refund. I was told i would have to wait as they were in the middle of another job that could not wait. I ensured they gave me receipts for leaving the items in their care. I would not leave the shop. I heard laughter from behind the scenes as they both disappeared. The younger man came forth and told me he would have to take the gold bolt clasp off that they had repaired... i asked if my original would be put back on - he replied 'you'll get one similar', I was unhappy about this, to which he replied, 'the world doesn't stop for you to get what you want'. Disgraceful trading. Avoid this shop.

Rocktopia sells a variety of what appears to be sort of 'New Age' looking clothing, all of which seems to be Fair Trade products. The clothing they sell there generally is of the tie-dye variety, which whilst I'm sure is brilliant for people who are into that sort of thing, it's not really for me (it also did nearly all seemed to be aimed at women). It's all still a very worthwhile cause to support, mind. They also sell various ornaments and decorations of a similar kind to the clothing which is all very pretty and everything but again, not really for me. Despite this, I do think that Rocktopia is a place everyone should visit, just to admire their collections if nothing else because I do think that local independent shops such as these should be supported by the community.
