Wow. This is one those Scottish villages that looks like someone took a handful of white-painted cottages and threw them against a hillside. Unfortunately, it seems to be too small to sustain the two pub inns that are there and they both apparently change ownership with some frequency.
I have eaten at the Clachan Inn previously and it was rather uninspired standard pub fare, but this evening's experience at the current incarnation was exactly the opposite.
Appetizers included a rabbit terrine smartly served in a kilner jar with toast and an spectacular haggis Scotch egg in a whisky sauce. Entrees were all elegantly served. Duck leg: crisp skin, fall off the bone tender and an amazing concoction of peas & bacon in a sauce I sadly cannot recall further details of. Baked cod very slightly overcooked. Pheasant breast declared excellent.
Desserts were decent but ordinary except a ginger beer and lime cheesecake that overpromised a little. That and the fish lost the 5th star.
Excellent ambiance and decent beer clearly attracting plenty of attention as the place was extremely busy. read more
