Stayed here for one night for a short break away from the city. It was a Saturday night so the bar was pretty full when we arrived, but they had a table reserved for us, and after checking into our room, we squeezed ourselves into a cosy corner beside the wood-burning stove. Toasty!
The food menu was surprisingly accomplished for such a small country pub, and I was particularly impressed by their offer to make me a special fish pie without the dairy filling. Jolly tasty it was too.
We got chatting to a couple of friendly locals who were eating at the next table, and ended up spending the rest of the evening with them at the bar. Everyone was so friendly, we felt like we'd been coming here for years despite it being our first visit!
The bedroom was large and quite well-appointed, they had made good use of the space under the roof eaves to fit in a large king-sized bed. The en-suite was compact but had a good shower, and everything was spotlessly clean.
There's no phone signal so you do feel cut off from the outside world a bit, but the wi-fi is good throughout. The River Ayr runs past the inn and has some lovely peaceful walks in either direction along the banks.
Overall, a great find. We thoroughly enjoyed our wee break and would happily stay here again. A perfect getaway location. read more
