Do not go here if you are not getting your hair done by Mike. Stay away from the old man. He sucks as a baber. If he asks you to do your hair say to him fuck off. He doesn't listen to what you ask for. I would have not paid him and made a scene but I just wanted to leave and go home to fix what he messed up myself. The old man shouldn't work as a baber. Oh man! The hair Gods smiled upon me the day I found this place. Not long after I moved back to the South Bay, I was looking a little shaggy. So, I hopped on Yelp to look for Barber recs. I saw the great reviews for CSB & decided to give them a try. So glad I did! The best part is, it's just down the street from my house, so it's pretty much a 2 minute drive. The prices here are just as on point as the haircuts. The guys in the shop are all great & friendly. They keep the shop clean & have a steady flow of people coming in. I'm not going to share the name of my guy, only because he has a long enough wait as it is ;-P So, you're just going to have to come down & see for yourselves. Great job guys, thanks! read more

I've been going to this place for ages (I think even back in the day when I had hair!). It's a run-of-the-mill barber place with all Asian (I think maybe Vietnamese) barbers, and they do one heck of a job. Prices aren't that bad, either ... $10 for a regular haircut and I think a little bit cheaper for kids and seniors. You can go to Popeye's for lunch after you're done, too! Get your hair cut by either Paul or Mike. All the bad reviews I'm seeing are about a different barber. Paul and Mike are both very experienced, patient, polite, gentleman barbers. They have been here a long time and are not arrogant barbers like many other places around. They will genuinely try to give you the cut you describe to them, and will make recommendations if you like. Paul and Mike both have very good reputations. People wait to get their hair cut by either one, even if the wait will be over an hour (due to others in line for a haircut) Paul & Mike are the 2 barbers here that basically bring in all the business. And the search for a decent barber continues... I have been here twice now and both times the haircuts have been bad. I got my haircut by the guy second in from the cash register. He is an older man who said he has been cutting hair for 30+ years now so I assumed that he knew what he was doing. I am very particular about how my haircuts and I was very though about how I wanted it. He pretty much did what he wanted including cutting the top of my hair, when I specifically asked for it to be left alone, as I was growing it out. The fade is not even and he went so high with it now it looks like I am a conehead. Guess I am wearing a hat for the next 2 weeks. I have not tried the other guys but I am not going to take a chance and go back for a 3rd time. Beware! read more

Best barbershop in the South Bay. When I first moved here, I tried over 10 different barbers. All in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and Mountain View. The barbers are friendly and remember you if you come in a second time. They only charge $10 which is the cheapest I have found as well. I go once a week and they only let me tip them every other week. (They they and sneak your tip back into your pocket) When you go, ask for Paul or Mike. Mike is in the first chair when you walk in and Paul is in the last chair. Look for the Michael's shopping complex. They are right between the Popeye's and Salvation Army. read more

Absolutely the worst haircut I have ever gotten. Do not go here unless you want to look like Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber. All I asked for was to thin out my hair and leave the front untouched. The old man spent half the time cutting the front. He also ran the clipper through with zero blending. Now my hair has three distinctive lengths with lines in between. Now I got to find another barber to fix the stupid hair cut. I can't believe this place is still in business. read more

Great barber that I've been going to for 15+ years. I'm happy to say that I haven't had a problem with a single cut that I've gotten there. The LCD TV is a nice little diversion to blow away time while your getting your haircut done too - but they're generally pretty efficient at what they do and you don't get to watch too much of any one show or movie. Mike's a great guy that's a blast to talk to and will always entertain you while he gives you a solid cut, but all the barbers there are top notch in my book. Maybe it's because I'm such a regular there, but I've never had a problem explaining a small change or modification to my normal cut there. read more

People bag on this place but if you are able to communicate and tell your barber exactly what you want, they do what other barbers do for almost $10 less. I usually get James (the older gentleman) who people don't seem to like. My strategy is to show him pictures of exactly the haircut I want. I get a pic for the front, for the sides, and for the back, and explain where I want a fade, where I want a taper, where I want a 1 or 3 or etc. Using this method, I have not failed. It's your right as a customer of a barber shop to demand the haircut you desire. If the barber give you an incomplete haircut, let him know that you need it touched up. For $14 I can't complain and as long as you ask, you get what you're looking for here. read more

I called this place on Saturday and they said they were closing in 30 minutes and to come the next day. I came the next day at 3:50, just over an hour before closing but they were already closed. A little irked, I came the next day only to find out they were closed again. No sign but it was the 4th of July so I figured that I should've just known. Despite all the mishaps, I decided to go again today. I was glad I did. The barber was meticulous and precise. I was a little off put by how he mainly used the electric shaver to cut the top as I'm use to more scissor work but his precision is pretty good and he kept telling me to take my time while looking in the mirror to make sure he was doing a good job before he continued. At the end when I tried to tip him, he refused to be tipped. With great service like that I'm definitely a fan. I would give 4.5 stars except there is no option. Overall a good experience. read more

Absolutely terrible. I've seen poodles with better cuts than the one I got. Had to beg the guy to stop touching my hair and went to Mr. T's Barbershop to have them fix it. I went through denial, anger, bargaining, depression and hopefully one day I'll get to acceptance in the Kubler-Ross grief model. - Shop is hot as hell. Not fun when hair sticks to beads of sweat on your forehead - Chair is not even adjustable. Very knowledgable on haircuts. Chatty if you get the younger guy. May take longer than you want on a haircut. Sometimes they don't show up at opening time. Probably the kinda barbershop you expect. Seats are, or rather used to be, covered in plastic. It's all mostly gone. Barbers seem to know what they're doing. More traditional. Been around for a few decades. I came here to clean up the job done at F8 Quickcuts. He knew what I was talking about with fading my attempted crew cut to a 0. Only charged me 6 bucks for the trim up. The older lookin dude with the gold watch seed to know what he was doing and did a really good job tapering. Haircuts are normally 14 dollars. This is what I'm used to paying for a haircut. This place is great for a straightforward men's haircut. I got Bob (the older guy in the second chair) who did a good job of giving me a pretty conservative (not a ton taken off) but clean and good-looking cut. This is a great alternative to Supercuts and any place like it. Haircuts are $10 (cheaper than SC), there wasn't a huge crowd, and (despite Daniel's review) I liked the decor of the classic tiny barbershop -- especially the 50's-ish black and white poster on the wall of "Official Men's Haircuts" (and no, you don't have to get one of them). First time here I was five or so years old, so we are talking 35 years ago! Yes, same location, but different people running it. I would drive 20+ mins from San Jose to go see Mike (closest to the door) or Paul (furthest from the door). Both give great haircuts. There is a review of one-star from a guy that went to to the older guy, both of the older guys I wouldn't let cut my hair, sorry bout that! I guess you should have read the review here first! I found a place in Campbell that I live, right next to my work so I haven't been back in a few months, but I can tell you it is a good shop, my go to place for at least ten years. Originally from SF, used to get cut at 'Cut Creations' in the Mission, top notch barbers hands down back in the day when the homie Erik was running the show. Needless to say, I gotta stay looking fresh and its hard to find barbers that can make the cut, all pun intended. Since I moved down to the Sunnyvale/Mountain View area (4yrs) I had tried a few places but found that Mike at Civic Square Barber was the dude to go to. Very consistent with his cuts. Can't give him 5 stars just cause I used to have 5 star cuts on the regular before I moved down here, other than that, he's my dude unless I'm in the city. read more

Walked in and it seemed relatively dead. Two men were cutting hair, one person sitting on the dirty and torn chairs they put out for waiting. Nobody acknowledged me when I walked in. Weird. I got my hair cut by the older gentleman in the middle. Admittedly I was from out of town and he was the only one available. He didn't do a very good job and when he used the buzzer and straight razor it kind of hurt. He also buzzed my widows peak and I'm not really sure why. Showed up and an elderly Asian man was going to be my barber. He spoke almost no English, but I'm used to that. I brought pictures. Apparently he didn't speak pictures either cause he wasn't even close. First time I've ever had to ask a barber to try again. I had to do it twice here. It still sucked. Oh, and I hope you like sitting in silence for twice as long as any other haircut you've ever received. The guy looks like he's been cutting hair twice as long as I've been alive, yet somehow never picked up how to do it well or quickly. I'd be fine with slow and good quality, or fast and just decent. But slow and bad? Really? What was my reward for such an unpleasant experience? Finding out that they are cash only. But don't worry, there's an ATM across the street where you can pay 3 bucks to have the privilege of being able to pay for your hair cut. Good luck finding it by the way. Remember, he doesn't speak English, so all I got is "ATM that way". Not "There's an ATM in the liquor store across the street", just "that way", even when pressed to be more specific. We have been going here since September 2011 and have been faithful customers ever since. My 3 year old son, Nicholas, had a phobia of getting haircuts due to a traumatic haircut he had at 2 years old. He would scream, cry, and run at the site of scissors/clippers/barber shops. He was slowly allowing barbers to touch his hair by the time we started with Mike, but not fully comfortable at that point. Mike was completely understanding of our situation and took a very child-friendly approach with my son. He talked in a very soothing manner, tickled him with the barber brushes, and offered him his iphone to play games. After about 5 minutes of building rapport, he eased in with the scissors. Eventually he was able to use the clippers. After just 2 visits with Uncle Mike, Nicholas never needs anyone to sit with him on the barber chair. He doesn't cry, whine, or attempt to escape the shop. Mike is able to use scissors, clippers, do fades, and line-ups on my son without any issues. He ALWAYS does an excellent job on his faux hawks. On our last visit, he even put 3 tick lines on the side of his head to give some Korean pop star style to it. My son actually refers and talks about "HIS" barber Uncle Mike to other family and friends. His grandpa is now a faithful customer as well:) read more

I've been going here for the past 15 years......I don't let any other barber touch my hair. Mike is probably one of the funniest people I know and very hospitable. I think it's funny that he still gives me candy at the end each time. Haha this one time I was out of the country and the first place I stopped was here when my flight landed.....it wasn't until after my haircut that i realized I only had foreign currency on me, but it didn't matter to Mike!
