I had been growing my hair long for ~2 years so hadn't had a haircut since then, and before that had been happy with a $15 buzz-cut from any random stylist. I have been struggling to articulate to stylists how I wanted my hair done and so I really appreciate how Yessica took one look, read my hesitancy, and offered an opinion. Yessica then went about the work and took the time, and various scissors, to do it right; hair was cut, not corners. I have been going to Yessica for at least three years now, ever since when she used to be at American Male Salon. She's since moved to a better spot at Edward's Salon in Mountain View. Yessica always does a great job with my hair, making it funky and fresh, yet still professional. I come every few weeks for the relaxer package: hair cut and styling, double shampoo, hot towel, face massage, scalp massage. It's a deal for the number of services that you get, plus you can come back for a free trim. BONUS. Yessica is great. It's fun coming in and she's always very entertaining and lively. Yessica is also very good about making appointments, sending reminders, and keeping on time. Very, very nice person. However, it's been awhile since I got a haircut that people actually made fun of, but the first thing my secretary said was "Supercuts?" It went downhill from there, with a number of people in my office spontaneously mentioning how awful my haircut looked. To be fair, I think Yessica got caught up in conversation and lost focus on what she was doing (I said just half an inch but she just kept cutting and she went a lot shorter than that). I need to go to another place just to get this evened out, since part of my hair is sticking out in the back (no tapering) and everyone says it looks funny. I am fanatical about my haircut . Growing up within traditional barbershops this is a major shift for me to even consider a salon as an option. I am happy to report that Yessica did a fantastic job on my haircut. For 8 years, I went to the same place to get my $8 haircut. It worked for a while; Got a haircut every 3 weeks and it was cheap! I got sick of the inconsistency. Some days it would be perfect, others my head would look like a mushroom and others I looked like I was being deployed. Yessica has been cutting my hair for the past 4 years and the thing I love most is that it's CONSISTENTLY excellent. She gives suggestions and listens to mine and she's extremely personable. Made an appointment with Yessica after moving to the Bay Area. As a man, I've always felt weird paying anymore than $20 for a haircut. But then I always complain about the quality. And then there are the stray hairs in my collar, on my forehead, and in/behind my ears afterwards. I usually wear a boroboro shirt because I know I'll have to wash it to keep from scratching. With Yessica, I got my hair washed AND conditioned, which I rarely do. She cut my hair then sprayed me down. Best part was after walking out, I couldn't find a single hair in my collar, on my forehead, or in my ears. Total was $40, which I don't think is unreasonable, at all. If you're ready to graduate from gel and $10 haircuts, you should definitely go see Yessica. She will work with you to get exactly what kind of haircut you want. I've been going to her for over a year and have not gotten a bad haircut ever. I get the haircut that includes shampoo/ conditioning with a head massage, facial cleansing, and hot towel on your face. The haircut is very detailed and she can layer/ texture your hair so that it looks cool when its messy and some product is on there. The end of the haircut includes another washing and her styling your hair so that you're ready to go and she discusses what you can do to make it look cooler. If you are trying things out, she'll take pictures of your hair and take notes so that you can progress with what you want. Go see her, she's awesome! I also got a facial once because I skipped a few haircuts when I was growing out my hair. That was also very meticulous and very relaxing. read more

Yessica she asked me how I wanted it cut. As a very picky person with lots of requirements, I was hoping she could keep up with me when I started talking but she pretty much completed my thoughts when I only halfway done telling her how I wanted things done. She both knew what I wanted and what looked good. After a quick shampoo and rinse, I was put in the chair and she started cutting away. The process went by without many questions asked. It took me until I went home to look at my own mirror to see what a nice job she did - there are a couple of things I'd change for next time though. I had a Problem finding a good hair salon, because I arrived in America one month ago (coming all the way from Germany) and did know where to go. Honestly can't imagine finding a better hairdresser than Yessica. I've never really taken great care of my hair, but I had an idea of what I wanted: shorter on the sides and back, while allowing the top to grow out and be styled. Yessica asked what I was thinking and then asked a bunch of clarifying questions (perfect!) and gave me exactly what I wanted. She taught me three different ways to style the cut she gave me, and I'm going to grow out the top more and come back in a few weeks to see how it ends up! In the meantime, though, I'm as satisfied as I could be. On top of providing a great haircut and advice on hair care, Yessica is really chatty and fun to talk to, it felt like no time at all! I went crazy looking for her on the internet (American male would not give any info on her whereabouts). After moving the the bay area over a year ago, I've been trying to find a good place to get a haircut without any luck. That's until I found Yessica. A lot of hair stylists don't know how to deal with my fine hair, and usually end up doing a bad job. Yessica knew exactly what to do with my hair, made a couple suggestions. She added a lot of texture to my haircut and even showed me a few ways to style it myself with different hair products. After the first haircut, I absolutely loved it. I've been back 2 more times, and she still remembers how I liked my hair cut the first time. It's really easy to text her to make an appointment set up, but sometimes it can be a challenge to get one on short notice. Even if you can't get one right away, it's worth it to wait. You might end up spending a little more than at your normal stylist, but again worth it. read more

I've been going to Yessica for over two years now and she is the best hairstylist I've ever had. When I first visited her she let me know that she was going to work with me to figure out the best way to style my hair (I have very thick asian hair). Sure enough when I came back she asked for feedback on the previous cut and adjusted her approach. On the third or fourth visit I literally had the best haircut I had ever had in my life. Nice! It's also great to work with her because she schedules appointments ahead of time. Every time I finish my haircut we setup my next appointment (no more waiting around for 1 hour on Sat hoping to get the "good" barber). She then texts me the day before to remind me of the appointment. One tip: she does primarily work by appointment and sometimes has bookings pretty far in advance. So if you want to give her a try, I suggest calling at least a week or two in advance. read more

Yessica does a great job and offers a premium service at a reasonable price. My previous experience was primarily with barber shops, a very basic cut. Yessica's entire business is focused on male clients, and she does a very good job of offering advice on style and products. Go for the "Relaxer" - you'll get a double shampoo, cut, and hot towel face massage. And - a great extra is she does a "cleanup" for no additional cost in 3 weeks, so your neck/sides stay clean looking between appointments. read more
