I am writing this scam incident as a warning to some seniors. When they shop in this store, make sure they keep all their receipts. It happened to my sister, a 75-year old, at around 5:30PM, 4/4/2013. The first round my sister bought 2 lbs of brown mushrooms, 1 white & 1 brown beech mushrooms in a plastic container, 4 bundles of green onions, & 4 pieces of big white stem mushrooms & a piece of round-eye[??] pork about 3 lbs, the total was about $25. She was the last shopper in the line to pay for the all these items. She paid and left the store. At the front of the store, she saw some good fresh oranges, she went in to pay for the oranges. Then the scam, a store clerk, round-eye, female always standing at the front store getting shoppers to buy the marked down sale of the day produce in bags. She started balking at my sister being a thief, and then another man got in together talking, accusing my sister stealing that piece of pork. My sister was stunned and did not know what to do and could not find her receipt at the moment. Then these two vulgar store clerks threatening to penalize my sister, she had to pay $100 for the crime. My sister told them to call the police, but did not persist. Then they took all her $50 from her and that big piece of pork, which is about $10 worth. My sister was very upset, being a senior, could not react sensibly. This kind of scam only preyed on Chinese female seniors. She should not have let them take all her money and the piece of pork already paid for. Why did they not confiscate the whole bag of the produce that she had paid for? Why only that big piece of pork and $50? My sister should have persisted to await the police come to the store. That evening my sister called her friend, who works in Chinatown police station to report this scam...
My advice to all is when shopping in Chinatown, especially, the seniors Chinese females should be more alert and vigilant...Don't be their prey...
