City Springs is located next to a performing arts theater and I discovered recently that it hosts free concerts during the summer. I've been to two, so far, and have been extremely impressed with the quality of entertainment and the convenience of the venue.
The first concert was a cover band for Queen who really offered a convincing performance, and the second was the Dazz Band, an R&B/Funk band that's been performing since the 70s. Both shows were fabulous and well-attended without being too overcrowded. Covered parking was available below ground and was free. You can reserve tables near the stage, but most people just bring their own folding chairs and picnics and seating is first come, first serve. Food trucks at the site are available, but there are plenty of nearby restaurants offering takeaway food, if you don't want to bring your own. Alcohol is permitted, though glass is not. There appears to be ample security onsite and it felt very safe. Even outdoors and 88 degree weather, it was surprisingly comfortable after the sun went down. They offered free fans to use during the second show and free 3M ear plugs for both shows.
Both shows had an opening band that started at 7:30 PM and the main act started about an hour later.
This has been my favorite discovery of the year, so far, and definitely recommend it for anyone who likes 1) live music and 2) free stuff. read more
