So I don't live here now, but I did graduate from PHS many moons ago and I vacation here…read moretraditionally every summer as my family still lives in this pretty little gem of a town. I currently work for City government and I know how stressful dealing with the public can be. This summer noticed a few fire hydrants in town that were painted with paw prints on them. I stopped to photograph one for a firefighter who collects hydrant photos and noticed they had ID numbers hand written on them. I thought how fun would it be to find the firefighter's badge number on a hydrant and photograph that for him. I began driving around looking for it which quickly became too time consuming. I stopped into City Hall with my strange request and story, attempting to locate hydrant #158. The ladies at the front were so very friendly dealing with me, and quickly difused an irate water citizen as well. They were unable to locate the hydrant and called a man named Brian in their public works division who they put on the phone with me. My story peaked his interest, he took my cell number down, and sure enough two days later after fit time in his day to day duties, he called me back. He'd discovered the original hydrant #158 was on Wamba Road, and they'd since been renumbering them with a metal tag, and that particular hydrant had been moved directly across the street from Les Schwab on the main drag into town. He wasn't sure if it still had the original stenciled ID on it, but said to call him back if not as he wasn't afraid to use his Sharpie! :) I commend you Prosser officials for having such quality personnel who go above and beyond for your tourists! Kudos...

Pendleton is a fun day trip from our home in Walla Walla, WA. The historic downtown has great…read morerestaurants and antique stores, plus a really cool home made chocolate shop (Alexander's). Pendleton is not all gussied up like WW. It is down to earth and has a feel like you've stepped back in time. it is clean and easy to get around, and the people there are very friendly. There are museums, tours (Pendleton Woolen Mills, Pendleton Underground Tours), a river walk, beautiful old homes to see on the hill, and about 15 miles away, the Tamastslikt Cultural Center. Only reason for 4 stars not 5, and this is very important: DO NOT BE DOWNTOWN AFTER DARK. We made the mistake of thinking we could go on a pub crawl. We had booked a room downtown, so we could walk around after dinner and have a few cocktails. Ruh Roh...we exited the restaurant after dark, and we were no longer in Pendleton. We were in the Twilight Zone. Really, groups of 3-8 people out roaming the streets, and every single one of them appeared to be high, and they looked to be ravaged by meth. No one said or did anything to harm or alarm us, but still, we felt we were not safe, and went straight back to our hotel. So Pendleton by day is a great destination. Be sure to skedaddle out of there by sundown.

Having to grow up near Pendleton, I am going to have mixed feelings, as we all do about our…read morehometowns! Definitely a country town, known for the Pendleton Round-Up. If you're not into that it's hard to fit into the area, but out of all the surrounding/even smaller towns, it does have the most to do. The good points are that it has decent restaurant choices and of course the casino (which also has an awesome movie theatre). I'd never choose to live here or the surrounding areas again, I don't even know if there's much point to visit (unless you like the Pendleton Round-up!), but at least you'll find something to do if you do get stuck here ;)

Sunnyside emanates a simple charm that just doesn't do it for me. I get stared at. You'd think it's for the pink hair, but usually it's because my half-Mexican boyfriend and I are in Fiesta Foods and I'm the only white girl in the [always crowded] building... but I don't hold that against them, because they make delicious tortillas in house. I digress. The nicest building in this city is the relatively newly remodeled McDonald's. You can tell, as Heather said, there are a ton of teens with their Hondas hanging out in the parking lot. Thankfully said parking lot is well lit. All extra money in Sunnyside goes to the pimping out of cars, not houses. So as you look through residential areas, you'll often be depressed by how a brand new Hummer is sitting outside what looks to be a shack -- at least I am. There are a couple kitschy cute restaurants around -- I'm a fan of the Burger Ranch, for example. But for the most part, Sunnyside is a testament to why I love living in a real city -- we have things to do. A weekend visiting the bf's parents often results in us driving ridiculous distances to go to strip malls of sadness as our only form of entertainment. Pros: They have an A&W and they have a plus sized store that I love [CandiGurlz] that doesn't try to dress us bigger girls up like grandmas. However... many of the girls my age in Sunnyside already ARE grandmas, so perhaps there will have to be CandiGramz added on some day. Cons: Bad cell phone reception for just about everybody, too much time spent in Sunnyside can send you into a spiral of depression, and the speed limit on major roads maxes out at 30... which is nowhere near fast enough to get you out of Sunnyside.
