Refered to Mike at city nails a few months ago, first time coming here, Mike had some kind of attitude towards me because I wasn't sure of what I wanted. Long story short 4 days later my first nail broke off 5th day my next nail broke off. Called Mike and he said he can't talk only text, he gave me options to come in 2 separate times which meant drop everything that I was doing because he had an opening to squeeze me in, but made sure I new that I needed to come in now and not later for him to repair my nails. It's been years since I got my nails done but I was lucky enough to get a same day appointment. They are now appointment only due to covid. No food or drink allowed and you must wear a mask and wash your hands upon entry. I was paired with Mike who is known to do really detailed and intricate designs (@nailsbymike808 on Instagram). I just got a simple ombré and I'm super happy with how they came out. He pays attention to detail, and finished my nails quickly without compromising quality. 0 stars for the owner mike for making feel unwelcome with my 2 year toddler. Upon entering I was questioned if it was just me and my daughter I responded Yes and that she would sit on my lap (she also sat in a regular chair for not even 5 mins alone next to me) If it had been a problem it should've been addressed that it's something that they don't allow. My toddler is pretty vocal and is very talkative but very well behaved , his wife conversed with my daughter and thought no issue about it until Mike had come up to me and ask me to mask my daughter because she's vocal and it may affect their customers. Mind you there was only one other girl in there and she looked fine smiling. Like is it truly for Covid reasons or because you want me to shut my kid the hell up. My toddler was not shouting or yelling or running all over the damn place. I chose to leave my services early because at this point I felt unwelcome and didn't want to overdo my stay at this establishment any longer. It's a shame because I remember coming here as a kid with my mom and never felt as if this establishment was not kid friendly. I've also been to other great nail salons during this pandemic WITH my kid on my lap and this was the first negative feedback so far. 5 stars for his wife b. Gentle and efficient. Loved the service! Simple and relaxing atmosphere with music videos going on the TV. They work fast and give you exactly what you want. I came in to do my fingernails and toe nails for a bikini competition this weekend and my nails came out beautifully! I'm excited to step on stage with my chrome pink polish and glittered up toes. I don't get my nails done often so this was a treat and I really enjoyed the mini massages they throw in for the mani/pedi. The only thing the could improve on was cleanliness of the tables they do manicures on. It was a bit dirty with old nail dust and clippings from previous customers but I didn't mind too much. However, as time went on, I found myself only wanting to go to Mike because of how amazing his work is. I've read many reviews and from my personal experience, I'd say 1. the place is very clean and sanitary and 2. all the workers are very polite. The bestie and I get our nails done about every two months and are always on the hunt for new ones with the best deals and really does a great job.... I think we found our new fave spot!!!! Hooray! I first came to City Nails about 5 years ago and have not been back since. I'm SO glad I gave this place another try! We arrived 10 min early for our appointment and they took us right away. I really like how quiet it is, and it's very clean too. I even saw one of the workers scrubbing the tub after they finished someone's pedicure!!! The work is excellent too! They really take their time to trim, clean, massage, etc and I like how for the pedicures they use an additional foot scrub. There's certain nail places where the timer hasn't even gone off and they rush you to switch hands and I notice the gel coming off a lot quicker. I felt relaxed and could tell they really wanted to do a quality job and take pride in their work. A+++! If you want really extensive designs, MIKE is the guy to ask for. The two people that helped us were excellent though. We both got gel manis and regular pedis. I spend $40 many times for just a plain gel mani and spent $40 here for two colors, and design! I was extremely pleased. The bestie usually spends $52 on ONLY a gel mani at other nail salons and spent that much for both a gel mani and regular pedi so she was very happy. The only thing that was kind of a downer was that we didn't get to sit together. Next time I'll just request and hope they'd be able to accommodate. Tip: Bring a jacket or blanket. It can get really chilly while sitting in the chairs! If you want clean, quality work, for decent prices definitely come to City Nails! read more

I love Hello Kitty so I was really excited to get Hello Kitty on my nails at City Nails. I tried making an appointment a week in advance, but they told me to just come in. There's no greeting when you come in, you just sign in and wait your turn. The place itself is not at all welcoming-very, very basic....No attempts were made to spruce up the place ,but what the heck I was there to get Hello Kitty painted on my nails. The people working there looked annoyed that so many people wanted their nails done and so many wanted designs put on their nails. None of the people working had any expression or looked like they wanted to be there. After a 30 minute wait, they finally started on my pedicure. The technician did an ok job with my mani/pedi. I was then made to wait another 15 minutes for the guy who put the design on. He did a very nice job with my Hello Kitty design with 3D bow. The bill came to $55 which was quite reasonable. Although I was happy with the quality of the work and how long the design lasted, I don't think I would go back because of the long wait, nonexistent customer service, and ghetto ambiance. read more

Definitely not a fan of City Nails. The designs are enticing and admittedly very cute though! There were several things that turned me off about City Nails: 1) The result of the cleaning and prep of my nails was mediocre. It was nice that the girls helping my mom and I were very gentle and took their time...but I felt it was time wasted! I didn't feel like my nails were shaped evenly! And when I asked for a little extra reshaping, they barely made an effort to get the shape and lengths even. I was really disappointed, especially after I had already said something. I also felt more could have been done about removing excess skin, especially during the pedi. Honestly, I could have done a better job removing the dry skin from my heels with the PedEgg I have at home. There was a lot of excess skin around the nails that I would have liked removed as well. Again, disappointed. 2) The supposed famed 3D art designer (the son?) was rude! I realize that things can get hectic when there are a lot of people around. However, that doesn't warrant being cranky and flustered around your clients, especially when the place wasn't even that busy? I guess he was having a bad day...BUT... 3) The design was messy. I was so excited when I saw how many designs I could choose from! I ended up wanting a half-cheetah design with a small 3D flower on my thumbs and ring fingers. A first, I was amazed with how skilled the artist was with sculpting the flower...but when he was "done," there were bubbles in the color coat and the top coat! The top coat was also uneven (The sides were not coated)! When I asked him about it, he just said "no one will notice." Hrmft. 4) EXPENSIVE. I realize that good 3D art takes a skilled hand. But paying almost $80 for a mani-pedi? What? Especially when my mani-pedi wasn't that great? My mom and I together cost over $175! Total WTF moment. PROS: 1) I appreciated the gentleness and good intention of the girls who cleaned and prepped our nails. However, a little more could have been done to really shape and clean the nails evenly. A little more pressure during the calf massage would have been nice as well. 2) There are a plethora of designs to choose from! Overall, if you're looking for a standout design, do go here. But if you're in it for the whole mani-pedi experience...I'd say go elsewhere. read more

A friend shared that she spends a larger amount on a bimonthly basis, so when a coworker suggested it, I was a bit worried.. but eager to try. I went a bit earlier than my friends, as I was getting a full set and they were doing just pedis. When I walked in, I informed them I had two friends coming and as soon as they came. they were seated.. granted the place was empty. I had the older gentlemen and his quality of work and attention to detail was amazing! He was careful in everything he did and made sure I was happy with every step. For a simple full set acrylic with gel polish, I paid $33, about $15 cheaper than normal. My friends were stoked with $23 pedicures. If you're looking for amazing value and top quality work, this place is definitely worth it!!! Ps. The workers are not spending their time talking while working.. it's so quiet! read more

Just to be NOT even welcomed into their salon with a hello, nor any direction on what to do, or even a question why/what service we wanted to have done there...There was a long line, and obviously no urrgency to their customers even if they scheduled an appointment. RUDE~not to mention they were under staffed! After waiting for a good 30 minutes, with only the customer service of shoving the old nail art album of pictures at us. If you are looking for a posh spa with luxurious settings and a bare chested man servant serving you white wine spritzers with a lime wedge while getting your nails done, you are in the wrong place. But if you are looking for the cutest pedicure on the island, trek down to the historic city of Waipahu and come visit City Nails. This place is VERY out of my way, especially since they are closed on Sundays and during the week the after work traffic heading ewa past pearlridge makes you want to scream. or cry. or both. But when I am driving back with my freshly pedicured toes, it all seems worth it. I have only been to City Nails for pedicures and super cute hello kitty nail art. They are always gentle, thorough, and never rush, even when there is a line of people waiting out the door. The entire staff is polite and professional and they are always willing to alter their designs to what I want. The usual hello kitty design comes with a 3D bow, but since I am *ahem* not the most dainty girl, the bow usually comes off after a week. When I brought it up the next time, Lilly suggested a flat painted bow! My toes still looked very cute and the painted bow worked out smashingly! For pedi and nail art, it has always been around $45, which is worth it for the awesome job that they do. It is fascinating to watch them design your toes~ they are so talented! I love this place! After he left that other salon I stopped getting my nails done because he was the only one that knew how to do them the way I liked it. His wife Lina also is my go to for my pedicures. They are located in that two story building across of Times Supermarket off Farrington highway. They're located on the second level. If you like to get unique designs this is the place to come....SEE MIKE!!! He's pure genius when it comes to designs! You'll be amazed by what he can create and he does everything free hand. He also does it so that your designs lasts until your next appointment if not longer. I've heard about City Nails for a while now but never went down to check them out. My sister is in from Vancouver Canada and it was her last night here. I DESPERATELY needed a makeover in the nail department and wanted to spend time with her so i yelped salons close to my parents house. City Nails popped up and since i had heard good things about it before so i was game. We went down and waited a god 10-15 minutes which wasn't bad considering they were busy. We both got a pedi and sister got a mani while i got a full set. Sister loved her's (pink) and i did too. Usually when I get my nails redone and they have to either remove my old nail or just sand down as much as possible, the techs are usually really rough and my nails kinda sting. Mike did my full set and he was so gentle. I really appreciated that considering it was the end of his work day and he probably just wanted to go home or meet up with buddies. Let me tell you, my current nails were disgusting!! But Mike did a great job. I picked a design from the photo book they had and got my nails and toes done. It came out awesome. I don't really like to get the ones from the book because that means someone else has/had them but this design was way too cool to pass up. They came out AH-MAH-ZING and i cant wait to go back and have Mike do my nails again. Mike and his family run the business and it was very sweet. His sister Tina did my sister's nails and she was great too. I really liked the hard work and determination the family showed by working together. They were really nice and were very experienced.
