UPDATE 11/30/25: Store's Follow-Up Request Ignored by Management Despite the owner asking me to call the store manager about this unusable mattress, my message to the manager has gone unanswered for over a week. Meanwhile, this mattress continues to get worse. It simply cannot handle my 122 lb. body weight when in use. The materials instantly compress so much that I experience physical discomfort and soreness (an iPad on a stand next to the bed is now exactly level with my face while I'm lying down). This points to a massive failure in the product's support capacity. I'm forced to sleep on my couch now rather than my bed because of the hip and glute pain I'm experiencing. This company's system for resolving customer complaints is clearly broken if the manager ignores a significant issue a customer is having. I cannot recommend a company that sells low-quality products and provides zero follow-up customer service. I will file a formal complaint with the BBB and the NYS Consumer Protection Agency if I don't get a response soon. *****ORIGINAL REVIEW***** I purchased the Celestial Pegasus Plush Innerspring mattress and thought I'd finally get relief from the hip pain and foot numbness I had from my four year old Saatva latex mattress that I spent a fortune on. That wasn't the case. The Pegasus "Plush" wasn't plush at all and the hip pain and foot numbness continued. I should note the pain and numbness only happen when I'm lying down in bed so this isn't a medical issue. I used their exchange policy after sleeping on that mattress for 30 days and exchanged it for the Simmons Emerald Coast, which I was told was a plush mattress. Now I have a whole new pain - my glute is constantly throbbing from lying on this mattress and now I'm stuck with a very expensive mistake. Never purchase a pillow top from Simmons. They sag very quickly. After doing some Googling, I found out this mattress is best for back sleepers and I can see why. That's the only way to sleep on it without much pain, although I'm a side sleeper and can't get used to sleeping on my back. I told the salesperson that I am a side sleeper so I figured he was pointing me in the right direction for side sleepers. I don't have the money to purchase yet another mattress so I'm forced to live in pain. I never in my life had so many issues with mattresses and I know it's possible to be comfortable because I recently slept in a hotel and at a friend's and had no issues. Prior to purchasing the Saatva and then these two mistakes from City Mattress, I never had issues. Bedtime was a pleasure for me. Now it's torture. Service was just ok. Nothing special, but not bad either. I suggest going elsewhere where there are many more brands to choose from. read more

I'm very happy with my experience here. Huge variety of styles - pretty overwhelming, but the sales guy I talked with was able to help me narrow down my choices based on what I was looking for. It is completely okay and encouraged to lay down on the beds and test them out, even if you go back and forth a bunch of times for comparison. The staff makes you feel like it's important that each customer is happy with their choice - not pushy at all, very friendly and helpful. Although I did not end up purchasing a mattress on this trip, when I am ready to do so, this is where I'm coming back to. read more

Amazing place to purchase a mattress around Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Went there after a long day of driving around the city look at other mattress store. When we got in, we were surprise on how big the store was. They have bunch of more options compared to nearby stores. We were looking for a medium/firm memory foam mattress, so the assistant suggested to try the options they have. Their mattress pricing are really good for what you are getting. After a short time search for our mattress we were able to decide on which on to purchase. The assistant was not pushy on getting us to purchase the mattress compare to other store we went where they keep pushing us to buy a mattress we were not 100% satisfied and more expensive. I was in search of a much needed mattress and since I had had a great experience previously I decided to go back to City Mattress in Amherst, NY. Mike greeted me as I came in the door and we discussed what I needed and he gave me options of good, better best... he had me lay down on each and encouraged me to really spend some time on each to get a good comparison. I was in need of a mattress for my adjustable bed so we tried them on adjustable beds in the show room... this made all the difference in the world... i chose the best one for me. I'm not going to lie, good mattresses are not cheap. But I have severe back issues and I have been sleeping on an inexpensive mattress for too long and it has made a bad issue worse so when I finally tried the mattress I eventually bought I did not want to get up from it! I think I was in the store for a couple of hours and Mike was delightful, making sure to point out how each mattress was made and how they differed from each other... After trying each bed more than once I finally made a well informed decision! For me, this decision is going to upgrade my quality of life... not just physically but mentally... I look forward to my new mattress being delivered! Also the deliver company will take the old mattress either to the curb for it to be picked up as trash or will take it with them for a very small fee. I bought a mattress from this location recently and worked with Tim Moore, one of their salespeople. He was super helpful and knowledgable. He clearly explained the different mattresses and walked me through various options. But he also gave me space to go back and forth as I tested different mattresses while trying to make a decision. Just updating the review after the actual delivery of my new mattress and removal of the old. I received a call at about 7:30am saying that I was still scheduled for delivery after 5pm and that there would be a three hour window. The only gripe I have is that I wish I would've received another call letting me know when they were on their way. I got a knock on my door at about 7pm. The guys that came were friendly and efficient! It took them about 15 minutes to put in the new box spring and mattress and to seal up and remove the old box spring and mattress. DO NOT BUY A SOFA BED FROM THEM We purchased a sofa bed from City Mattress. We were taken in by the fact that it was easier to open than standard sofa beds and that the dimensions were true to queen. However, once we had occasion to use it, it is horribly uncomfortable, the so called mattress padding is not one solid piece but is sectioned accommodate being folded into the workings. Trying to get comfortable on it, we had to use pillows to soften the hard lines where the "mattress" folded. I called to exchange but there is no exchange policy on furniture. I can exchange a mattress but not a piece of furniture. So I have spent a few thousand on a sofa bed that is unusable unless I buy a foam padding to use when guests come. Their mattress might be exceptional, but their furniture is not ! I have written to the company, twice, but no one has gotten back to me!!!!! read more

Mattress shopping can be incredibly overwhelming. So when we walked in, I was definitely dreading it. I hadn't done this in over 10 years. I will give you all a minute to feel sorry for my poor back. [Pity party] We were immediately greeted, and because the place is not overwhelmingly huge like other furniture stores, I relaxed. I enjoyed the lay out. The fact that they had such a large selection was awesome. We were looking for an adjustable bed with a medium firm mattress, and our saleswoman knew right off the top of her head which ones to show us. As she listened to preferences and feedback from trying out two mattresses, she showed us another two that met all of the needs we discussed. She gave us time to test everything out. There was no rushing or hounding. Price was immediately given, so we both knew whether or not we'd be looking at something that we couldn't get. Initially I went to a bunch of stores and this is easily the cleanest with the best selection. Some other stores had pushy salespeople. The staff here are knowledgeable and patient. Unfortunately my first mattress had a warranty issue, the second mattress didn't end up working out for me, but the third mattress worked better. The staff was very helpful in assisting me with all of this as well as giving me store credit for the issues with the previous mattresses. I definitely recommend it! read more

We wanted to upgrade from Queen to King. With different sleeping styles, we opted for 2 different TwinXL on king frame. Note that testing queen size in store doesn't translate to feel in twin xl. Store manager was helpful in exchanging my bed, major price upgrade. When I went in to pay it was labor day weekend, got coupon in mail - all pricetags on beds were increased equal to the coupon. Come on City Mattress, you can do better. While completing paperwork, another salesman was openly complaining about a customer that he felt worked him over on price and had called with additional questions. He openly told his coworker he should 'have sent him to Raymour and Flanigan'. Very arrogant and unprofessional. As a loyal customer, I left disappointed. read more

When we began our mattress search, we were looking for a particular mattress model that they didn't have in the store so we initially went elsewhere. Big mistake. After having a less than pleasant experience with another local retailer, we went here to see their selection. We were in the market for a king size bed and the salesperson couldn't have been more helpful. After spending a significant amount of time showing us various options, the salesman helped us figure out that a latex mattress was the answer for us. We ended up purchasing our latex mattress elsewhere but we were so impressed with City Mattress that we purchased a full size mattress for our son through them. Very disappointing. We purchased a bed just to return it within the allowed time period. The second bed is awful, and now we are stuck. Bed one felt amazing at the store. We spent over $2800. After a few nights, the sleeping areas sank drastically. We returned to the store to test another bed made by the same manufacturer because it was the next in line regarding firmness. We went more firm hoping to eliminate the potential to sag. (They no longer carry this brand which is made locally. A reviewer actually had the same issues we are having, and the manufacturer got involved-and failed). The sales rep made a snide comment that it likely due to my wife's pregnancy that the bed wasn't a fit for us. Hmmm...I'm not pregnant and the opposite side of the bed reacted the same way. Bed 2 delivered 4 hours early. They waited for my wife to arrive at the agreed time just to be rude and question why she wasn't ready earlier. He was intimidating; sticking folded up paperwork in her face to sign. This bed is horrible. I went to City Mattress expected the Cadillac of beds just to receive a Yugo. We purchased our children's beds at Extreme Discount mattress with low expectations and ended up with a better customer service experience and more comfortable beds at the fraction of the price. Just this week I had reps from City Mattress take a look at our bed. Our mattress needs to settle yet another inch for it to be considered abnormal. You literally have to put effort in to roll to the middle of the bed. All beds settle, I understand, but how does at $2000+ bed go lousy after 2-3 years? City Mattress cannot do anything except perhaps give me a new bed at a lower price. So basically I would have to buy another over priced bed from a company I don't trust and potentially have 2 king sized lemons? I asked that a manager call me to talk pricing and to schedule a visit and haven't heard anything the next day as requested. "We stand behind everything we sell. That's our commitment to you" is City Mattress's motto. Do you think my experience reflects this mantra? I would not suggest shopping here at all. read more

I've had two really nice experiences at City Mattress so far. The first was when my partner and I were out and about looking for a specific bed frame model and gathering ideas. We stopped in City Mattress on a whim and had an excellent experience with Joe. He was able to tell us more details about the bed we had in mind, such as where it was made, its construction, and feedback he had heard about it. He showed us other options and made us really think about what we were looking for in a bed when it had more so been something we were mulling around. My partner and I ended up going back to the same brand we liked and totally unrushed we were able to browse its catalogs since we didn't see anything on the floor that struck us. We didn't make a purchase that day but the impression left was very positive. It wasn't so much sales as giving us the information so we could make the right choice for ourselves. As others have said, the sales person gave us space to think, which we needed. Ultimately that great customer service is what brought us back to City Mattress knowing we were ready to buy this time. We knew the bed frame we wanted and it was a matter of narrowing down mattresses. The sales person showed us a number of options, telling us about the various bed constructions and durability, figuring out what we wanted and needed. The lower priced options were on equal level as the higher priced and we didn't feel pressured to swing toward something pricier. He also gave us space to think and try, to narrow down. We walked out feeling confident with the bed and frame we chose. The nice thing was be able to pick a delivery time and day, and they that don't charge you to for extra trips, which is nice since we were told bed frame would be in at a much later point. The salesperson said both could be delivered at the same time but my partner and I wanted off our old rock. Our mattress set was delivered a week later with no problem. The guys were in and out and we were able to carry on with our day as planned. The bed frame was 4-6 weeks but it ended up being 8 weeks, which was the only ding in the process. Once again the guys were fast and efficient. I love our beautiful bed and frame! I would highly recommend this company. read more

I needed a new mattress because of water damage in my apartment. When I went into the store I didn't know what I was looking for but Theresa was so helpful and amazing, she knew what I needed and what I wanted more than I did. She had the best recommendations for me and had me lay on the beds for 5 min, which I had never had anyone have me do before, and it really helps you get a sense of the right bed for you. Because of the damage in my apartment my landlord was paying for the mattress and Theresa was beyond helpful in that aspect as well and could not have made the process any easier for me. The guys that delivered the mattress were also so nice and professional and were in and out in less than 5 minutes. I'm not surprised to learn that the majority of the reviews posted here can be described as "glowing". This was my most pleasant buying experience in years, despite having great love of mattress shopping. The sales person was very attentive and, after LISTENING to us (who does that anymore), took us to try her first recommendation. She absolutely nailed it. We looked at four or five other models, all of which were slightly more expensive, but no better in my opinion. The salesperson (she happens to be the store manager) made no effort to upsell us or sell any unwanted accessories. Left with the intent of visiting a few competitors. Got home and checked the reviews and pricing on the items we tried and found that the ratings were very high and City Mattress's pricing was very competitive. No need to go elsewhere. Phoned our sales person and placed an order. Next day delivery was offered and new mattress was delivered at 10:30AM the next day, effortlessly and flawlessly. Can't be happier. read more

I had an excellent experience at the location on Sheridan in Amherst. I was there near the end of March 2018. My sales associate Theresa was fabulous! I went into the store knowing what mattress I wanted. A splurge...the Tempur Pedic Cloud Supreme. I compared it to another Tempur model just to be sure I was getting the right firmness. Theresa insisted I take all the time necessary to be sure and was so patient and helpful. I did not feel pressured in the least. I have now slept on my new mattress for almost a week. Bought a couch and matching love seat (made in the USA) and loved the way it looked and felt in the store. Six weeks later the cushions are flat, a representative came to look at our couch and simply told us he could do nothing and "we got what we paid for". I thought City Matress was a quality company who cared about customer satisfaction but sadly, this is not the case. Our salesman who was more than eager to tell us how poorly other furniture stores make their products, followed up with our complaint and told us we bought "cheap furniture" and was not helpful in any wa. My husband and I haven't purchased a new mattress in a very long time. I have a very bad back due to arthritis. We shopped at the City Mattress Store at 4927 Transit Road in Clarence, NY 14221. The store manager, Kurt Kennedy, was our sales person. He gave us his undivided time explaining each mattress and offering opinions and recommendations for what mattress would be best for me. Choosing the right mattress after just laying on them for a short time is very overwhelming. I choose a mattress that was awesome in the store, but unfortunately, when I slept on it, it was not the right fit for my bad back. I called Kurt and he had additional suggestions. He sent me to another City Mattress location to try out a different brand and style of mattress. I knew instantly this was the right mattress for me. I was able to exchange the mattress, with a very nominal exchange fee. I had the second mattress the next day! It is perfect! I haven't had such a great night sleep in years!! Kurt Kennedy is professional without being pushy, extremely knowledgeable about his products. Kurt actually cared about me and how I was going to sleep, instead of making the sale. Kurt made sure to sanitize each mattress and pillow after I tried out many mattresses. I felt very comfortable laying on mattresses, knowing that the store is disinfected and clean. Also the delivery guys were awesome! They were so nice, professional and didn't leave a single mark on our walls while hauling in and out these huge mattresses! Our overall experience with the City Mattress store on Transit Rd. was excellent! In this pandemic era, when it is the norm to wait for weeks and months to receive your product, I had 2 new mattresses delivered within 4 days! That amazing! I had a dealing with this store several years ago and it was awful. The delivery department manager was absolutely difficult to work with right down to using profanity and screaming over the phone. A couple weeks ago I thought I would give them another try because I was in the market to buy a full mattress, boxspring and bed. When I walked in a sales representative had to go over to wake up the sales representative that was to take care of me. He was literally sleeping on a bed hidden by a divider. I looked around myself as Matthew got up from sleeping, went over to a desk and sat in a desk chair and fell asleep there as well. After being woken up the second time he finally came to engage with me. NEVER AGAIN. Not worth my frustration. pleasantly surprised and verrry happy that the man and i stopped into City Mattress on Sheridan this past holiday weekend, as we were in search of a new mattress to cradle our world-wearied bodies. we thought for sure that it would be out of our price range, and that we would be ignored as we had been at the previous two mattress shops we visited. Joe Cuddahy is THE MAN. go in, ask for him, prepare to get great customer service. he didn't balk a single second or flinch at our meager budget (of course i want a lusciously soft Prana Sleep mattress, but the corner's been a tad slow lately due to the windchill, ya know?), and he was very patient as he taught us about mattress firmness and whatnot. all in all, we got an A-MAH-zing new mattress set for UNDER our budget, and we even came out with a sturdy new frame and high quality, warrantied mattress pad in the deal. and it was delivered the very next day...BOOM! i LOVE going to sleep now. its really awesome when a 'local' business respects its customers and treats them right. read more

Was pleasantly surprised after my experience at City Mattress this past weekend. Was searching for a mattress for my sister who is moving into her first off campus college house, so our need was for something cheap yet durable to last her a few years. Upon entering, the store gives you the impression that it probably doesn't have any college type mattresses but this is a misconception. We told one of the workers exactly what we needed and two reasonably priced options were shown. We ended up going with a decent full size mattress that came to $405 including the bed frame. Judging from the quality, I think the price could have been dropped down into the 3's. The edge support isn't superb. Delivery is free as well, but not same day delivery so make sure you come in a few days before you need the mattress delivered. The store itself has other products besides mattresses. Upstairs, there is a section with furniture that isn't cheap but is definitely worth taking a look. I don't know if the quality of the mattress is as good as other stores in the area sell but time will tell! My favorite part about the customer service here was that we were given some time to think it over and breathe without a salesperson breathing down our neck That's hard to find but definitely helped win us over! read more
