There's a certain charm and anticipation when you head back to a place that has given you consistent good vibes in the past. That's how I felt walking into The Coffee Shop in Humboldt on a late summer Saturday at 8:05 am, only to find it locked down. There were no hours posted on the door, but I was a bit surprised at the late start for a coffee/breakfast place. But, as they say, every day can't be the same, and this day turned out to be one of those off days. *Ambiance--Eventually, a nameless individual meandered to the front after watching another party stand at the door and walk away. She turned on the "open" sign and took her time opening the front door. It was now 8:07. The initial hush was broken by classic rock, maybe just a tad too loud for the morning. But I'll give them this - the interior, with its brick walls adorned with local art, has always been a highlight. It gives off that modern, yet rustic charm which I genuinely appreciate. *Service--We were greeted--or rather, we weren't--by a young college-aged woman. It took us approaching her after taking her place behind the counter before words were exchanged. It felt a bit odd when I ordered The Breakfast Plate with eggs over easy, and she confessed she didn't know what that meant! I was disappointed to encounter such a lack of basic knowledge about a common breakfast request. My empathetic side did understand when she awkwardly shared her woes of working for seven straight early mornings, beginning at 5 am, but then again, yesterday's trash hadn't been taken out and the usual fresh bakes were missing. I'm not sure how she may have spent her time from 5-8am! The orange juice situation was a mystery--told they were out, yet there it sat in the counter. She is probably a very nice person, just not well suited for the restaurant business. *Food--About 15 minutes later, two other staff walked in, and at the 25-minute mark, an elderly gentleman handed me a plate he seemed immensely proud of. He announced that my eggs were indeed over easy, but appeared to have been cooked in the bacon grease. Not the best sight to start the morning. *Drinks--Coffee was, well, average. It has always been, and today was no exception. But the self-serve water containers being empty? That was new. And after asking twice, getting ice water in a foam cup felt strangely detached. Perhaps this is why you are asked to offer a tip up front. *Verdict-- had come in with my wife, hoping to relive our many good experiences at The Coffee Shop, but today left a tad bit sour taste. Here's to hoping it was just an off day and not a sign of things to come. I'll give them another shot. *Tip--If you visit, don't be surprised if you get a low-talker and keep an eye out for the orange juice situation! read more

HOLY COW I did not expect this in the middle of Tennessee - this place was so niche and cute! A sweet little boutique on the inside with local goods to buy (all the earrings are so cute!), TONS of coffee options, pastries, and lunch? Can I bring this place home with me? The whole shop was super clean, down to the bathrooms, I was super impressed. Service was great, it's not going to be quick (food is pretty quick but actually ordering takes a little because there are so many options to customize your meal!) - this place is here to enjoy yourself. They will literally ask you a million questions to make sure it's exactly what you want, and they have so many delicious add ons. We got salads, sandwiches, chips, sides, cake. Everything was so good. The drink menu was so hard to choose from, everything looked so good, and this is some speciality coffee. It's way better than a chain spot. This spot was amazing, if I lived in the area, I would be in daily. Props to the owners for creating such a unique and welcoming space. You have to check it out! read more

First time at The Coffee Shop today while visiting Humboldt. Stopped in for regular coffee and a bite to eat. Really nice place inside, good "coffee shop" vibe. I was greeted at the counter and made to feel welcome. Off to a great start! Ordered a regular coffee and bacon egg and cheese sandwich on wheat. Coffee was self serve and cold. But they apologized and made me a fresh pot. Not the end of the world. The sandwich was fresh made and ok. Bread was fresh, egg cooked well, cheese melted, my only complaint was it came with exactly 2 slices of regular bacon. Again not the end of the world but for $6.95 it seemed a little light on the bacon. The coffee was pretty good though. And had I not taken my order to go would have been bottomless. Not bad for $2.85. I'll try them again, maybe next time see how much for extra bacon, lol. read more

I love supporting local owned when I travel for work. Definitely glad I stopped in here a couple times. Great drink selection and yummy breakfast casserole. Wish I had more time to sit and work and hang out. Great ambience! If I lived locally this would definitely be my go to spot to work and drink good coffee. read more

The best part of my experience was the facility itself. It has a lovely, open, and welcoming interior. Unfortunately, the breakfast food I had was not prepared well. My western omelet was filled with something, but I didn't recognize anything but the large chunks of sausage. Visually, it was unappealing and didn't look good. Hashbrowns were oily and tasted like they had been fried in old oil. It might be a good idea for the cook to watch a few YouTube videos on making an omelet. This place used to be great but my experience here a couple of weeks ago was terrible. I ordered a chicken salad croissant which had hardly any chicken salad on it and a peach tea and it was almost $20. The people behind us ordered chicken salad sandwiches and they were brought a half of a sandwich and told that's all they had! Unbelievable! And the prices are atrocious for what you're given. The service was great with lots of help from the barista and the atmosphere was hip but comfortable. The building itself is beautiful and very historic. Our food unfortunately did not fully meet our expectations. The servers seemed very disorganized and did not communicate well with us. There was also no barista on staff which was very confusing because of how many coffee drinks they had to offer. Let this be clear- this place does not even deserve one star. There were no friendly workers, along with no barista. How can you offer so many coffee options just to say there is nobody to make it. Nobody filled drinks or came to check on us throughout this time. A group of 4 of us waited over an hour just to not receive all of the food we ordered. The food that did come, truthfully tasted like prison food. A "breakfast sandwich on Texas Toast" consisted of plain white bread and a thin piece of old sausage for $6. Stumbled into Humboldt and was directed to The Coffee Shop and am so thankful that I was. The Chai Latte and White Mocha Latte put the chains to shame. Friday night is game night so be sure to try your hand at a game of Dos. Made my way back to The Coffee Shop the next morning for a brunch-time Chai and Hashbrown Casserole. When a friend suggested meeting for refreshments at this coffee shop I silently snubbed my nose, because c'mon--its Humboldt. I had never noticed the storefront, so I assumed it was a month old or a little more. When I went inside it was warm and inviting. The place is quite surprisingly large, but what really blew me away was the cleanliness! I was shocked to learn they had been opened for 9 months, because it looks as though it opened this week. I didn't have any food, but what I saw and smelled was tempting. There was a steady stream of customers, but it wasn't annoyingly busy. I met the owner who seemed like a genuinely sweet lady. I'm already looking forward to me next visit. Price? Pricing in slightly cheaper than Starwhatever... The quality is above what you'll be expecting maybe I'll see you there! read more

What a wonderful place! Clean and bright with really nice people running things. It is always a pleasure going there. For us, the draw is their heavenly, fabulously delicious cinnamon rolls! They are freshly baked with this glorious icing that isn't too sweet, but perfect. Yesterday, before lunch, a talented musician entertained, just adding to the good vibes of The Coffee Shop. I live 20 minutes away, but it is really worth the drive to have such a swell place to be. The owners have really imaginative programs (even for kiddos) and events, so get on their Facebook page and see what is possible. I love this place! And apparently so does everyone else in West TN! The atmosphere is very cool- rustic and industrial at the same time. Great live music. The food is good and the coffee is excellent. Why is this not 5 stars for me? The line to get coffee and food is sooooooooooooo long on the weekends. On a recent Saturday, there was a line out the door and customers sitting in the floor to hear the live music. I waited 30 minutes for a coffee order. Thankfully, someone told me to reserve a table ahead of time for my group of six, or we wouldn't have stayed. read more
