I did find that it seemed like they had less computers for public use (I say about 30 computers here) than other libraries but again it is a smaller library located inside the Guildford Recreational Center. The washroom was quite cute. There are step stools for shorter kids. Very thoughtful. The library was very well maintained given that it is slightly over 10 years that it was last renovated. Could this building be any more awkward? Whose bright idea was it to house the library in the same building as the Surrey RCMP detachment? Whoever you are, please stay away from urban planning and egad! construction. One is hard-pressed to think of a more inappropriate coupling or a less accessible design. This library is not only poorly signed at street level - I dare you to find the entrance! - there are quite a number of stairs to climb to get to it. There is an elevator, yes, but good luck finding it at street level. Good luck finding the parking lot, too, the first time. The hostility doesn't end there, either. This is a library with no quiet space! Absolutely none! At 4 p.m., the tables and chairs are all occupied by Asian students talking away at one another without inhibition. Unfortunately, our own quiet Ocean Park branch, did not have a copy of the reference book needed so there was no choice but to persevere. Happily, in view of the prevailing noise levels, which continued unabated, I was able to persuade the librarian to permit me to borrow the damn thing overnight. Hint: STRONGLY suggest moving popular reference texts from this branch to libraries that actually have reference sections and/or quiet reading rooms. Semiahmoo branch felt more like a high school library reserved exclusively for Asian teenagers, who are not restricted in any way from talking with one another. Have librarians simply given up? Like Vancouver libraries, Surrey's are also all wildly overstaffed. So many highly-paid librarians, so few books, movies and CDs. What do they all do all day, one wonders? Why not direct resources instead at the installation of desperately needed washrooms in city parks and along popular pedestrian walkways like more civilized communities? Ultimately the city should consider a more appropriate, more accessible, more attractive location for such an obviously popular resource. In the meantime, PLEASE place signs to ensure patrons have a quiet place to read. Wall off a room students can book if they need to talk. The default position at a library must be for quiet.

In…read moresaying that things had changed more than a little bit so I sought the help of a librarian at the info desk. These ladies are super helpful and wonderfully gracious. They helped me find what I needed, helped me register for a new card as my paper card was no longer valid (surprise, surprise) and gave me the lowdown on how things worked there now. The building is lovely and fairly open, it's kind of loud though. I didn't expect so much noise. I'm more used to school libraries where people are using them to study rather than using then as a community space, not that there's anything wrong with that. I was in and out quickly and there was plenty of parking. The grounds are actually quite pleasant too. Overall, great experience!

Sometimes I feel thigh in some section, and the strong orange tiles in the washrooms (both on top and lower floor) are TOO AGGRESSIVE for me I prefer something more cool (white-gray-light brown kind of color) - same for elevator. This Fleetwood branch of the Surrey Public Library is pretty decent for its size. Its not the best…read moreplace to go study though, because more than half the time, all the tables are snatched up! They have a really big childrens section in this library where you could find just about any childrens book possible. The community centre portion of the library is also pretty decent - equipped with a small gym, some multipurpose exercise and arts and crafts rooms. The staff that works in the building is also really friendly - helping you with anything that you may have to ask.

Although it might not have the biggest selection, you can just go online, find the book or material you want, put a hold on it, and it'll get delivered to the library via another partner library. That's why I'm not bothered by the small size of the library - I haven't had trouble finding material I've needed as I can get it delivered from another library. All in all, I'm so glad we have this place in the neighborhood!

Even though the library is small…read more(you can stand on one side and see the other side), it feels spacious with bright lighting and large windows for a view in the cozy fireplace corner. There are a couple quiet study rooms at either end that can feel a little claustrophobic, but they serve their purpose. I've never had an issue finding a place to sit, even if it's in the kids books area. The library is conveniently located in a complex with grocery stores, restaurants, and even Starbucks across the street for a change in ambiance.
