The library staff was friendly and very helpful in helping me with all of my questions. Lots of desk/table space and electrical outlets everywhere. Overall a great library to visit.

The main complaints I have are two. First I was stopped by an Indian Security and he asked if I had a mask. I was wearing a face covering and he said it was UNAPPROVED. Approved by whom? By what? I don't like this blue masks which are laced with carcinogenic ingredients and my own cloth material covering is clean and I don't want to breathe in anything that is harmful. He insisted I used the mask he gave me. Nothing but playing power trip. NOT IMPRESSED. I got an email notification about a video to pick up but when I showed up it was no where be found on the shelf under the initial of my last name. While I did get help from one of the counter staff and I told her perhaps someone just took the video and watched it inside the Library etc. This happens a lot in Vancouver Main Library as well. No, she offered to cancel my video and then put me back on ordering. But she did not place me on the next in the queue but back at the end of the waiting list. I waited weeks for this title now have to wait again. Poor management. Trust me IF I can find the same item in downtown I wouldn't bother to have to take 2 buses to Surrey!

Great resources, clean library and helpful staffs…read more Large library so there is a lot of study space and it is (usually) very quiet in terms of noise. Free fast wi-fi and they also have many computer terminals you can use if you don't have a laptop or tablet. My favorite thing about the library is that is is centrally located in North Burnaby next to a swimming pool/fitness centre, a running track and lots of food. Makes for a great study session and efficient day! Librarians are friendly and will help you find whatever you are looking for. If they don't have a book on the shelves you can always request from another library and they ship the book for you. Lots of free parking as well :)

Not sure if it ever gets completely full, but I have never seen it happen. One thing to keep in mind that the gates close around 2000, which leads to the risk of getting one's car trapped overnight. There are also some metered spots on the surface. The place is fairly modern, but is a bit worn down from years of use. There are plenty of computer stations, and a nice atrium area with nice high windows. Lots of books inside too.

For me, especially during those early days back, and away from what had become familiar, and daily routine of getting up early and heading to work, I had a place to go where I could relax, unwind, and initiate some new experiences. For a good while, my daily "schedule" included a visit to the library when it first-opened each morning at 10 am. Wow, what a great and much-welcomed opportunity it provided to be able to read a variety of newspapers, and such, and acquire information on what was happening, here and there, after being away for so long. A library card came soon, and over the years since then, has allowed me to continue to enjoy the many and varied offerings this fine, branch library provides. I suspect I now look into the library from outside, much more than from within these days, but when I do, it is still with the same eyes and fond memories -- I have never forgotten how much it has helped, and meant to me.

vancouver public library is a wealth of information and resources for the community, housed in a…read morestriking building designed to resemble a modern day coliseum. the library provides accessible services to help ensure everyone can use the space comfortably, along with social services and community support resources. it also regularly features events such as talks, workshops, and activities for different age groups. the architecture is organized across several levels. the lower level is currently under construction. level 2 contains the main entrance, information desk, children's collection, library card services, and borrowing services. level 3 focuses on digital creativity, featuring the inspiration lab. this space provides free access to soundproof recording studios, including three sound booths for small groups and the larger terry mcbride recording studio for video and photography. to use these, you can book a session online up to two weeks in advance with your library card, allowing for a maximum of three hours per day. level 4 has collections related to business, cookbooks, esl, and fashion. level 5 is a quiet floor with newspapers and magazines available. level 6 holds dvds, music cds, and spoken word materials. level 7 includes special collections and human resources. level 8 features meeting rooms, a reading room, an eating area, temporary exhibit space, the family theatre, and several outdoor patios for fresh air while you work. level 9 includes additional meeting rooms and a very nice rooftop garden that serves as a great escape with a panoramic view of the city skyline. this green space is even equipped with solar panels that help power the ninth floor. beyond books, the library hosts a musical instrument lending library. you can borrow a variety of instruments free of charge for up to three weeks, including acoustic and electric guitars, violins, ukuleles, and keyboards. to borrow one, simply check the library catalogue to see if it is available and visit the service desk at the central library. inside the building, there are also several convenient services and businesses, including a td machine, blenz coffee, a convenience store, gift store, dental clinic, bike shop, and onigiri ya. together, these resources make the library a welcoming and useful place to study, learn, and spend time.

What an incredible resource for the citizens of Vancouver! We had a long layover so we explored every single floor of this library. There were so many computer stations if you needed to do work online, but also so many little nooks with comfy seating to settle down in with a good book. The rooftop had an incredible view of downtown Vancouver, and the atrium was nice and warm. There was currently an "electronic concert" going on where there were chairs set up so people could listen to recordings played over the speakers in the atrium. I thought it was a really neat way to get the community together to listen, discuss, and engage with one another.

Interior looked pretty nice here too. The central library in downtown Vancouver is probably the biggest library I've been to, but Coquitlam Public Library looked newer and cleaner in my personal opinion. Couches looked super comfy and it was really comfortable. If you sit by the lounges by the entrance you can buy a drink at the vending machine nearby. There are books available in Chinese, Farsi, French, Korean, and etc. They also have virtual story reading time and a virtual chess session as well. I really liked the plentiful of couches and desks for everyone. There was even cool looking pod to go study inside. You can even book a room for group study. Magazines and DVDs were organized in a neat manner. I can pull back the display for the back issues. New movies allow only 3 days for the rental. I heard the 3D printer is available in the library, but felt unsure if they still have this in the library. I think it's best to ask the staff.

Sounds carry in this library and I could hear the conversation between a librarian and a library user. They are not talking very loudly but still I can hear them, and I give props to the super patient librarian who had to deal with the library user who did not seem to understand/hear what the librarian said. New users are allowed to borrow 5 items. After a month with no charges or overdue items then will the limit be increased. It is part of the Public Library Interlink so you can still return books here which are borrowed from other libraries.

No slurs or inappropriate words were being discussed. the librarian who was there was super Karen like. she was really rude and disrespectful to me and my friends. she told us this was the KIDS section but when we go there nobody has ever told us to leave. she was being super judgmental and mean to our faces. she told us to leave or sit outside somewhere because this was the KIDS section. she told us to move the chairs back since we were sitting in a circle and that they were in the way of the books. we understood and moved them but she gave us all a dirty look full of disrespect and bitchiness. I hope the public library takes this message and fires her. i love the library since all the librarians are sweet and nice but this was definitely a new experience I've never met such a bad librarian.

I am reading books, playing on public…read morecomputers with old friends, and having a safe place to hang out outside of school for homework, catching up with someone, etc. Recently, a representative of the library came down to Centennial at our recent WORKFAIR BC job fair to promote volunteering with the local community, as well as talking about part-time and full-time jobs at the library. This caught my attention because I've been hanging out and spending lots of time at the library, and it's my chance to be known in the community and give back. The representative was able to cover all the opportunities in volunteering, like reading to younger kids or helping them with homework, for example, and how to apply for a position at the library either working full or part-time. They were very nice and patient and were able to talk to multiple people at once about what they offered to spread their word across. In conclusion, the representatives are fantastic people trying to involve the older youth, and soon-to-be adults in the community head-on

The library is brand new!…read more The library is now two floors. The 1st floor is the kids section the 2nd floor is the adults section with computers and printer/photocopying area. I love the big windows that let in the natural light. So many desks along the windows so it's a great place for studying. They also have a silent study room with several desks as well. I don't think they have any private study rooms though. They do have soft/comfy chairs for reading. It's great that it is updated. I wish it was bigger since it is new. I think it may just be a little bigger (if you put the two floors together) than the older library. Will definitely be coming back for more study sessions!
