Also, and this is very much an aside, Jessica Yaniv's swim doesn't seem to be that bad? Admittedly I've only read the one article (link below), but it looks like she was trying to organize a body positivity swim that was top-optional, which is already the case in public pools. She seems to just have wanted the focus on the swim to be for body positivity so that trans people could feel safe and wanted. I've been to a few of the skinnydipper swims and it was super tame. Just a bunch of folks hanging out at the pool without clothes on, and everyone was polite and friendly. Only a few kids would show up and they were absolutely with their parents. It wasn't a big deal. In fact, the whole point seemed to be that it wasn't a big deal. Most of the folks there were long-time naturists. This is the coolest spot to make some friends and book that event you always wanted to see happen. Their street view is an unassuming storefront, and through the door an open performance space, then couches, a bar, and a bathroom. The entire space is tiny, there's capacity for about 70 people in total and it gets pretty crowded pretty quickly. The art and displays rotate as their showcases change. Social programs are hosted by motivated individuals year round. They are very do it yourself and very politically correct, so if you're a snobby lazy jerk you might not want to socialize too long. But honestly, you'll probably fit right in with them, and the hip neighborhood they've been a part of for years. Then you do it all over again, with another pair of strangers, at another strangers' home, having another delicious meal and wonderful conversation. Everyone (at least 24 people, because each series consists 4 pairs of hobby chefs serving 2 pairs of strangers at a time) meet at a central location after, where the hobby chefs are rated by the diners and a winner is announced. The healthy competition definitely motivate the chefs to come up with unique and delicious recipes as well as beautiful presentation. If you have a chance to try this I would recommend 100%. The hobby chefs I chose were all fantastic hosts and made my belly sooo happy and satisfied. It was such a unique dining experience that you can't compare to anything else. Tickets sell out fast so watch their website often or join their mailing list. Even better, if you and a friend enlist as hobby chefs you will get passes to go to the next event of your choice.

They were a welcoming bunch of people, with a wider age range than you normally see in a pub (i.e., lots of grannies) and with a blue-collar feeling that has actually become a bit rare in these parts. The beer selection is not for the snobbish (Coors and Canadian aren't even ironic yet, and I confess that upon seeing/hearing my options, I had a moment of "What can I drink?!"), but the awesome selection of diversions include regular meat draws, live bands, karaoke, pool, and my personal new favourite, shuffleboard. A friendly regular showed us how to play, and answered all our stupid questions as we learned, and soon it was like I'd been finessing my slide on the Promenade Deck with Gavin McLeod all my life.
