The other post on here is just plain wrong for lots of reasons. Probably the number one reason is…read morethat this isn't the swim that Jessica Yaniv was talking about - she was organizing a one-time swim in ln Langley, and this was a monthly swim in Surrey. The other reviewer seems to be from Seattle, so maybe they are not familiar with the difference between Langley and Surrey? Also, and this is very much an aside, Jessica Yaniv's swim doesn't seem to be that bad? Admittedly I've only read the one article (link below), but it looks like she was trying to organize a body positivity swim that was top-optional, which is already the case in public pools. She seems to just have wanted the focus on the swim to be for body positivity so that trans people could feel safe and wanted. I've been to a few of the skinnydipper swims and it was super tame. Just a bunch of folks hanging out at the pool without clothes on, and everyone was polite and friendly. Only a few kids would show up and they were absolutely with their parents. It wasn't a big deal. In fact, the whole point seemed to be that it wasn't a big deal. Most of the folks there were long-time naturists. Also, for what it's worth, I never saw Jessica Yaniv there. https://www.nsnews.com/local-news/genital-waxing-complainants-topless-ok-youth-lgbtq2s-swim-proposal-delayed-by-township-of-langley-3104138

I've been to super chill jazz nights that turned in to topless dance parties, and art showings that brought the city's finest together over wine. This is the coolest spot to make some friends and book that event you always wanted to see happen. Their street view is an unassuming storefront, and through the door an open performance space, then couches, a bar, and a bathroom. The entire space is tiny, there's capacity for about 70 people in total and it gets pretty crowded pretty quickly. The art and displays rotate as their showcases change. Social programs are hosted by motivated individuals year round. They are very do it yourself and very politically correct, so if you're a snobby lazy jerk you might not want to socialize too long. But honestly, you'll probably fit right in with them, and the hip neighborhood they've been a part of for years. Contact them through their website with any ideas, and check the online calender for more dates.

I loved their Jazz hipster nights in a confined space. Truthfully this place was hipster before hipster was hipster. I heard Kent talk about for years about the toast collective, therefore, was really happy that I got to do this with him a few years ago.

It's different than potluck - it's home cooked, restaurant presented meals, all prepared by hobby chefs. Plus you get to look at the insides of other people's apartments :) When I tried this experience a few weeks ago, I started at an apartment downtown with some Asian inspired dishes (3 appetizers to be exact) and then walked (which is what you do) to the next apartment in Yaletown where I experienced an amazing west coast themed dinner complete with some very tasty pilaf and chicken! We then all gathered at an art gallery where we were given chocolates, dessert wines and bubbles to finish off the night and the winners were announced based on their food presentation, hospitality and of course, the food! I would totally do this again - but they seem to sell out really fast! (If you do go, make sure you wear pretty socks - you'll likely need to take your shoes off at the door - it is a dinner party after all!)

Then you do it all over again, with another pair of strangers, at another strangers' home, having another delicious meal and wonderful conversation. Everyone (at least 24 people, because each series consists 4 pairs of hobby chefs serving 2 pairs of strangers at a time) meet at a central location after, where the hobby chefs are rated by the diners and a winner is announced. The healthy competition definitely motivate the chefs to come up with unique and delicious recipes as well as beautiful presentation. If you have a chance to try this I would recommend 100%. The hobby chefs I chose were all fantastic hosts and made my belly sooo happy and satisfied. It was such a unique dining experience that you can't compare to anything else. Tickets sell out fast so watch their website often or join their mailing list. Even better, if you and a friend enlist as hobby chefs you will get passes to go to the next event of your choice.
